Please, put the IFAK on the outside! Maybe on the hip belt. The last thing you want when you need a tourniquet is to remove your backpack and dig through its contents. Other than that, nice bag. Maybe too many organizer pouches for my liking, but thats just personal preference

You definitely have quality gear, just seems to be a lot of packed into it. Love the BK9/esee 3 combo (I’ve got them both & they’re great knives) med kit looks pretty bulky (but that’s just how that goes). I’d love to see a review of all of ur pouches, just to have a better idea of what all you plan on lugging around because like you said I’m sure there are a few ways to shave off a little weight. Maybe think about replacing ur fork knife spoon tool with just a long titanium spork (found that worked well do me). I HATE to say it…. but maybe take ur Bark river knife and set it up in a different pack/ other kit. I had to wind up using my tarp in a different kit & found a large poncho that I could use as cover while static & also worked well when on the move. I LOVE pouches, I love them! But they are bulky & tend to eat up a shit ton of Real estate in a pack. That being said, The organizational aspect that they provide is great. I found that making use of the existing couches on the pack I was using serve me better and allowed me to save space and wait. Your fife kit looks very extensive. For me that was one of the first ways I addressed my BOB. A couple of lighters (one in my pants pocket & another in the pack) along with a good ferro rod & lots of small homemade tinder was the key for me. I like your cook kit setup, it’s direct and to the point. I found a set of hollow food grade stainless steel chopsticks that I added to my kit that really helped with cooking & eating on eBay for a $1.15! Maybe throw a large square of heavy grade aluminum foil in there as well. At the end of the day, it’s your bag & you have to love it, not anyone else. That ting is busting at the seams! From the looks of it you’d be hard pressed to fill ur water bladder (Lol). I put my first BOB together in 2010 after having my first child & it/they have have grown & changed many times over the years. The only real advice I can give you is to take it camping, (primitive camping) hike out about 5+ miles and set ur self up with what you’ve got & see how it works for you. Do it two or three times & you’ll definitely know what ur just not using. You’ll know exactly what you can use & what you may need to add. That’s how I was able to to really get my system in order. I loved ur vid & thanks so much for taking the time to put it up. Keep them coming!

You are 1,000 % correct, you really know your stuff! The bag is busting out from the seams! when I pick it up it feels like a workout! lol, you made me laugh, when you said I would be hard pressed to fill the bladder, and I always thought to myself, how in the world would I fill this thing lol, thank you so much I'm going to do exactly what you said to do, take it out camping or hiking and take it from there, that makes so much sense! I really appreciate your advice! Im uploading my med kit video in a few minutes I would love to know what you think about it !

Once you get that knife kit inside the bag you can put the molle pouches where the knife was. They are bulky and you have to have a big bag to put them inside.

  • @turtlewolfpack6061

@@theghost7083 your firekit can be as basic as a tube of vaseline or vicks cotton balls, a couple of lighters and a ferro rod. Wrap some ranger bands around the tube and keep some of the magnesium just because. I love complex fire kits when I am bush camping but a bug out type kit needs to be simple and fast. I don't know how cold it gets in your AO so I can't really recommend a sleep system but I live the SOL bivy coupled with a nice packable sleeping bag. I get the knife thing! I have a fixed blade 9" khukuri, two folders and a multitool on me every day, most days anyway. Sometimes it is a different fixed blade. A small folding wood stove like the Firebox Nano and a Trangia burner go a long way in any kit as well if you are planning on extended trips being neccessary in your scenario. There are less expensive little folding multifuel wood stoves as well, both my oldest children have one in their bags and I even have one in my work ruck. Even at 0 degrees you can sleep pretty decent with a +15 Celcius sleeping bag, an SOL bivy, a body heater like Hot Hands and proper clothing. It isn't perfect comfort and I sleep hot, even in my mid 40s, so your experience may vary.

@@turtlewolfpack6061 Your right I think Vaseline with cotton balls are best type of Firestarter, I've been testing a lot of different ones from companies, and nothing compares to Vaseline and cotton or a wax-based cotton, definitely need a folding stove like you mentioned just when I think I have everything there's something I'm missing, I'm grateful for platforms like this to help each other grow, and I'm open to learning new things, I appreciate your help !

Hi Ghost.! Got yourself a new sub mate. Perhaps it is best if you compartmentalized items instead of them loose inside the pack. By the way you put the BR knife incorrectly back into the sheath. Try do a try run with the pack, do a little bit of hiking & overnight camping, using all the cutting tools & fire starting product. Perform some repairing routine on clothes, tents & packs etc. Learn how to use the Swiss Army multitool, it's an excellent compact tool kit considering that your edc pouch is basically empty. You may need a solar power charging bank for all your electronic items. That's a heavy duty fire kit matey. As some areas has "four season in one day" you might want to look closely at your shelter & sleeping item. Something to sleep under, something to sleep on. something to sleep in. How heavy is the pack? Could you hike for an hour with it on your back & how far will you get before drinking all your water supply? You do have great items but do try to minimalize. That will take experience, I'm sure as you go eventually you will learn. "The more you know, the less you carry". Stay safe mate & prosperous 2022. Greetings from Australia.

Wow you got a lot of stuff. Pouches and bags and packaging that you don't need. Take all that new gear out of its packaging and right there you'll save space and weight. You'll also have a better idea how it works. Water purification? Get a filter and tabs as a back up. Relying on boiling could be a potential problem. You can probably combine all the electronics in different areas into one pouch saving space and weight. I didn't see any insulation like a poncho liner or sleeping bag. You gotta pear that down and only carry what you need and the only way you'll figure that out is by humping down a trail and staying overnight, like Christopher Urban said.

Horses for courses really, you have to keep the little sum in your head that the heavier amount of stuff you're carrying the more calories you burn and the more worn out you are the tougher it becomes to overcome difficulties Vs have you got enough stuff to do what you need to do and deal with XYZ problem? I'm a fair bit older than you so I have to be realistic, the long distance light weight hikers type stuff is going to be more viable for me than the mil spec type stuff in many (not all) instances. I've had to do a couple of long distance get homes when I did long distance cycling. The thing I valued most was hot coffee. It boosts your morale and gives you a break to regain your focus. That was me though, don't know if you're a caffeine person or not.

@@theghost7083 Yes, you're absolutely right about skills or even the ability to improvise being the most important thing. I used to do a little mental exercise, take almost any object and think through all the possible uses that one object could have. It becomes automatic after a while. Doesn't cost you a penny and could save your life in the future. I use instant coffee at present, it's quick and doesn't take up much room, you could be burning daylight (or moonlight if things are really bad) and the smell is comparatively little.
