Considering what has just come to light, so many statements in this conversation are deliciously ironic. No history, "set the record straight", a green light for creating our own image, "I started playing FAKE Tchaikovsky", "sitting with one's truth", "No, it wasn't hard to re-live" (the trauma she never actually lived), "respect for the TRUTH", "without being exploitive", "I want to see you as a REAL person", everybody's got to have a gimmick, "a gap I didn't know existed",...too rich!

Here's some past tweets that I found from someone on Twitter who had some interesting questions about this book. Pt1 "I read Andrea Warner's bio on Buffy, and I had some questions regarding her adoption. Why didn’t Warner explore more of Buffy’s biological relations on Piapot? How did her adopted parents happen to be in southern Sask in the 40s and come to adopt Buffy from a Cree family"? Jan 5, 2023 --------------- pt2 "Didn’t Buffy ask questions about her biological parents and the exact location where her adopted parents adopted her? Has Buffy explored the possibility of DNA tests to find her biological relatives on the Piapot Rez or Saskatchewan"?

What else should she have done in your opinion, given that she doesn't know anything about the circumstances of her birth? Should she have insisted that the marriage certificate says "born at an unknown date to unknown parents at an unknown place"? My birth certificate names my stepfather as my biological father. I have the adoption files but do not know for sure who my biological father is or was. It matters to me because my biological father is/was not white, whereas my stepfather was, and I have had to put up with a lot of racism because of this. I noted that when the interviewer said that Buffy wasn’t at Woodstock, I got the feeling that Bluffy wouldn’t like that and so she immediately said that Joni Mitchell also wasn’t at Woodstock. But strangely enough she also says she was blacklisted for that song Donovan sang of hers (Universal Soldier), yet he was not blacklisted. My favourite part of this interview is how she says she never actually graduated and doesn't hold those degrees. But it was only in this interview in front of Andrea that she caught herself. Obviously Andrea discovered the truth on that one! And notice how she somehow twists it to sound like she didn't graduate because she was too smart! However she did keep on lying after this interview about having those two degrees and "graduating" at the top of her class. It's reall hard for her to stop lying even when people already know the truth.

When tearing up an artist is your intention, when your hatred is focused on a person who has given so much to us, a very brave and outspoken women and yes she is an indigeogenous woman! She protected her mother. When someones DNA becomes as important to someone else and another very fine woman artist gets torn to ribbons and cruciified by some ignorant media people who ARE out to make bucks off character assassination and perhaps cover up child abuse creeps me out! I dont care who you are, Linda, as far as I am concerned you are the one who is sufferring from some obsessive disorder.. you have devoted so much time to tearing Buffy apart and you really played into the hands of evil. Take back ypur life and do something good with it. Your obsession with one womans DNA is not worth my own time any more. Im gonna go enjoy some of her great music. By the way. Nothing I saw in that crummy 5th element video incriminates Buffy St Marie. There is one picture that they say is her as a child and it looks nothing like her. Her birth certificate could have been altered as was common practice in Massachussets back then with adoptions, and her mother could have had an affair that resulted in Buffys birth. Neither of those things make her a bad person. DNA is a very small part of what makes us indigeonus. It's our connection to the land as well as our ancestors that gives us our foundation but it does not determine who we become or what we do with our lives. Good job, Buffy . Envious people are vulnerable to being misled by that kind of bullcaca.. Quit fighting online. This is not a courtroom and Its a disgusting act against a truly great woman artist and outspoken advocate for indigeonous people. Its a red flag to me that this shows up at a this time in her life when peoples lives are at the mercy of the silicon based life form known as the internet . I dont care who likes who. I love her and her music ❤. You know, I hope she NEVER TAKES THAT TEST, because it is a direct affront to her dignity as a human being to ask her to but if she did, don't 25:26 you think the lying US government would be sorely tempted to screw with the results and pay for false results saying that she had no indigeonous DNA because she has been speaking truth to the evil powers of this old Roma😮n Empire here since she could first be heard in public. Thank you Buffy.

When I was ten, my mother introduced me to a man she claimed to be my biological father (he has been denying it ever since my mother passed away) and warned me not to tell anyone about it because his ethnic identity might get me killed. He is/was not white. My stepfather (who is listed on my birth certificate as my biological father) was white, my mother was not only white but very blonde, I inherited much of her complexion, so most people who questioned my whiteness kept their questions to themselves. I kept the silence for the rest of my childhood and still often choose to pass myself off as white when I meet new people because discussing my biological parents and the impact of racism on my life usually is extremely painful, because I am hardly ever met with compassion. However, I can't pull it off for long periods of time anymore. After a few weeks, I blurt out the truth as I know it (I don't know much). Because the emotional toll of living with a false identity is enormous. THERE IS NO WAY Buffy Sainte-Marie could have pulled it off for sixty years and remained sane.

She didn't pull it off to those in private though. Her biological family knew, and so did her son who made a very damning post about her on Facebook years ago. Many of those people have benefitted financially from her fame. It's the public she deceived, and since she began doing this at a time when no proof was convenient, and no Internet could do some simple searching, and then later could say what she liked with her parents deceased, we entered a time when it was incredibly distasteful to question someone's ethnicity and she took advantage of that too. Plus, the country adored "her Indigeneity", and it added to her ease of presenting herself that way. She was very lucky to have found some fame in the 60s and 70s to make her known and accepted, allowing her to continue a road paved for her BY the public AND the media, who wanted her to keep it up.

Your experience doesn’t mean it mirrors someone else’s. This woman certainly lied her entire career. Her own family confirmed the lies, 180 pages of documents backed up the truth, and dna proves her deception too.

@@talkingmotanka You can't trust what the family of an abuse victim says about him/her. Because they will spin their own story. And yes, it will be coherent. You probably have never heard of Vigdis Hjorth, a Norwegian novelist who also holds academic degrees in literary science and idéhistoria (history of ideas/intellectual history). She's famous in her own country. A few years ago, she wrote a (finely crafted) novel the English tilte of which is "Will and Testament". In it, she tells the story of a woman who assumes that she was sexually abused in childhood because she has various symptoms pointing to it and because of the way her family covers up their dysfunctionality. The only problem is that she doesn't have any clear memories of it. After she had published the novel, her family came forward and said "This novel is a defamation of us" and wanted it banned. Vigdis Hjorth hadn't said anything about it being autobiographical. But her family said that it was clearly about them because they recognized themselves in the novel; and they said that the depiction was accurate except for the abuse, that hadn't happened; and they described Vigdis Hjorth with all kinds of unflattering adjectives which I won't repeat here. Her sister, a human rights lawyer, even wrote a counter-novel. Although Vigdis Hjorth specializes academically in how storytelling shapes our reality and can help us uncover hidden truths, this has not helped her against those who believe that she has lied and defamed her family. They continue believing it. This reminds me a lot of what is going on right now with Buffy Sainte-Marie. There is a blank spot in her personal history which she can only fill by blatantly disregarding the laws of the people who adopted her as an adult and by demeaning herself: that is, taking a DNA test and publishing its results. (It is demeaning regardless how the results turn out. Who are we to assess the value of her accomplishments and her personality on the basis of her ethnicity estimates?) Buffy Sainte-Marie specialises in very short texts, not in long ones, but like Vigdis Hjorth, she has always tried to navigate this blind spot in her biography as truthfully and as faithfully to the available facts as possible. We don't know what exactly went on at the Santamaria's/Sainte-Marie's, but we know that Buffy looking "Indian" was an issue, because her son wrote about it in that (in)famous comment. Her son wrote that she passed herself off as Native to make herself more interesting to men despite of her big nose. He has retracted it in the meantime and written that he wrote things like that when he was angry at her. Well done. It shouldn't have been taken seriously by anyone. It is a typical male, sexist, ignorant thing to say. In my family everyone knew who my biological father was. Most of my mother's friends knew, too. I only found out when I came back from his country of residence for the first time and broke my silence. Only then did I understand that the only person from whom a secret had been kept all those years was I. That traumatised me all over again. Just like incest, family secrets about a child's different ethnic ancestry come with a lot of family dysfunctionalities, which ought to be taken into account when assessing Buffy Sainte-Marie's story. We don't know who knew what and who had told what to whom. Even her sister might not be in on the whole story. I can't find any hints that speak for Buffy Sainte-Marie being a ruthless liar. On the contrary. She has been handling this whole situation with a lot of grace and as rationally as possible. If anything, she downplayed what she has been through.

All Emile Piapot ever said (old articles) on how they met was she approached him and his cousin immediately after getting off stage at a powwow and asked them to give her a spirit name. Bee-lined over to them is more accurate, with a sinister greedy plot. Total predator!
