Buffalo Overview | An informative introduction to Buffalo, New York

Buffalo is one of the most underrated cities in the country. I visited Buffalo years ago and after making this video I'm convinced I need to prioritize a trip back there. In this video I briefly cover Buffalo's history, population, skyline as well as a few things that make the city unique. Thanks for watching : Buffalo Overview | An informative introduction to Buffalo, New York.

Grew up here in Buffalo, I’m 61. All but 7 years have been living here. Everytime I moved away, within 2 years I was back…. It has a draw to it…. The people, the pride, eg; when the nutjob pos that shot up Tops Market in a hateful racist attack on innocent people, we all came together to mourn and grieve these souls… we wept together, we shared our grief, and comforted each other, there was zero racial tension, all races came together….no violence! No riots! Just pure kindness and love for each other….. I wouldn’t trade this Place for anything! I Love my Buffalo Ny! Thank you for this great video! Go Bills!

As a buffalonian, this is how I would describe buffalo. Its not a big city, its our city. Come back when the Bills and Sabres seasons start up again.

I grew up in the region, I think Buffalo is a large US city but rather it just makes the cut. Like any smaller and it would be a medium sized city. I say it’s a large city due to the fact it does have large city amenities including 1) professional sports 2) world class museums (such as AKG and Martin House) and 3) Has the public transit more aligned with big cities - ex: subway system. Compare to say Syracuse NY or Dayton OH which I’d classify as medium sized cities given they don’t have these characteristics described above

I grew up in WNY (not originally from there) and now that I no longer live in proximity to Buffalo, I actually miss it more than I thought I would. I think the thing about Buffalo that's really difficult to capture is that it really is a city that has something for everyone. For culture, there's Shea's Performing Arts Center, The Irish Classical Theater Company, Kleinhans Music Hall, and the Albright-Knox and Burchfield Penny Art Galleries. If sports are your thing, of course there are the Bills & Sabres, but the Bisons are there too and they play in a stadium that began the downtown baseball specific stadium resurgence. For nature lovers Niagara Falls is absolutely close by, but only an hour outside of Buffalo is Letchworth State Park, "The Grand Canyon of the East". Plus, the Finger Lakes region isn't too far away either. If food is what you're into, Buffalo has more than just the chicken wing (blue cheese, not ranch, not breaded). There's "Beef on Weck", Sahlen's hot dogs, Buffalo style pizza, sponge candy. And there are some fine microbreweries as well, my favorite being Pearl Street Grill & Brewery right in downtown, but check out any of the others like Flying Bison or Ellicottville Brewing. For history loves, you mentioned that it's the Western terminus of the Erie Canal, but that's not all. Forts Erie & Niagara aren't far away and both were in use during the mostly forgotten War of 1812. There really is something for everyone in Buffalo.

We visited Buffalo during our recent rail tour of the US and loved it. We had lunch at one of the stalls in Ellicot square and visited the naval museum. The Canadian and American sides of the Niagara River really are integrated in a lot of ways, which explains why there's so many Bills fans in the Niagara Region. Before you needed a passport, we'd think nothing of hopping over the border to go for dinner or to bars in Jiagara Falls, NY, abd Buffalo. It never felt "foreign" to us.

The thing that frustrates me so much about Buffalo living there for 10 years is I feel like it is probably the number one Citi when it comes to potential to be great it’s right on the border of Canada so very close to Toronto. It’s only 20 minutes to Niagara Falls State Park and within a 8 Hour Dr. you can get everywhere from Land in Columbus, Ohio to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, New York City, Boston, Washington DC and Maryland, etc. overall probably has the best taste in food across-the-board out of any city I’ve been in sure I’ve been to cities I have better pizza or better burgers steak, etc. but I feel like across-the-board it’s very good it’s relatively affordable it’s very diverse as far as their racial make up, and it definitely has a old World Lee vibe about it with lots of stunningly beautiful areas without being too white collar but that’s also part of its drawback is it feels like all these things that it could take advantage of to be absolutely great to be the fastest growing city in America. it doesn’t take advantage of it always seems like it tries to do something and then it just completely falls short or backtracks on commitments, building out the whole waterfront which the downtown area sits on #2 barely doing anything with it, not having great market to boost up the US side of Niagara Falls, which gets millions upon millions upon millions of visitors. Every year other cities would kill to have that and western New York, just essentially throws it away being able to be up-and-coming Citi for younger professionals and higher income individuals will still have a space to maintain affordability is just a joke. All in all, it’s an enjoyable city. I’m thankful for what it provided for me in my life during a good portion of my life but here is hoping that it can get back to it at least Golden era

You have to view downtown Buffalo from the north looking south. A great vantage point is The Lenox Hotel. The skyline looks incredible from the hotel.

Thanks for being a longtime fan of the channel! I’ve thought about doing that in the past but decided it was something I couldn’t speak as confidently about since I haven’t used the transit for all of these cities. I’ll consider including something like that in future videos though.

I have an opportunity to relocate here. I'm in Chicago now. Chicago is awesome but it's getting very dangerous here. Last month my sister was mugged on the north side on the Lakefront Trail at 2pm. There's always crime areas here but it's spreading thru the whole city. I know Buffalo has crime but I don't think it's through the whole city.

Having lived there for five years make sure you get an enhanced drivers license because then you can cross over into Ontario and go up to Toronto…. And from Buffalo’s airport it’s only 90 minutes to New York City.

Buffalo is WAY better than Chicago in terms of violent crime. I'm born and raised here, the only bad part is how it's a part of NYS and the Dems are running it into the ground. They take the tax dollars from Buffalo and invest it all into NYC. We get the shaft a lot, and taxes are super high. But you won't meet a more salt of the earth people than in Buffalo, NY. We'll help you shovel your driveway and bring beers for the snowccasion! Love love love my city and it's people.

I understand that Buffalo has an amazing but abandoned train station. Hope that it gets redeveloped and/or repurposed like Detroit's did with their historic train station. The connectivity of Buffalo with parks and greenspace is amazing, but much of the city needs more love.

Western New York lost 80% of its manufacturing jobs due to NAFTA causing a huge loss in population. That's a hard thing to come back from. Add to that the fact that New York is the number one state for people moving out due to insane taxes and overregulation and that makes it worse.
