I lost my documents in Mexico when I was 21 and couldn’t get back to United States for few days. I remember sitting in a hotel balcony in Puerto Vallarta staring at the sunset and this song was playing on the radio. I’m an old mostly white lady in the US, and grew up listening to many music genres, including salsa. When I was a kid, there was a salsa mania going on in the early 60s. Perez Prado was very popular. They played his music on the top 40 stations.

My Abuelita was from Cuba. She was the great grandmother to my sons. I learned most of my horrible Spanish from her. She had a terrible time in Cuba. She had to give up her daughter when she was only 6 years old during “ Operation Pedro Pan”. Her husband was tortured and killed, she was imprisoned. She had a perpetual sadness in her eyes but she was very proud and strong. I love that woman and I’m glad her blood flows in my son’s veins.

As a Frenchman🇫🇷 of Moroccan🇲🇦 origin, I would love to visit Cuba🇨🇺 one day. I love its people, its history, its joy, its peace with the world. Love to Cuban Brother 🇨🇺🇨🇺 by your Friend 🇫🇷🇲🇦🇨🇺

Having been to Cuba I can imagine this in somewhere like the Hotel Seville or a music hall and as said people old and young dancing, the country now has a faded grandeur about it, a beautiful country, the people the music the food, the cigars and rum (my personal favourites) I would go back in a heart beat, this time I'd want a motorbike to ride though so I can go out and explore on my own and not just go on organised trips the more touristy bits.

Remember in Nairobi,Kenya way back 2000s at a club called Pavement ,Westlands used to have Salsa night and this song used to be played by a band there as we swing in our little known salsa dance and enjoyed watching the Cuban ambassador dancing to it like crazy and the current Kenyan president used to swing by to watch and enjoy ( then just a regular). Good ol memories 😊

This is one of my mother's favorite songs. She turns 60 today and keep singing it. With a broken spanish. She has a beautiful voice and likes the melody a lot. When I was 17, i left my little countryside for a few days in the beautiful city of Bordeaux, France, where I live now. I went out to a cuban bar with my friend, and after, at 3am, we met this group of musicians from Argentine. There was Andrés, the guy who was playing guitar, Luna, the dancer with the red dress... And when we arrived, they were playing and singing this song in the night, chilling next to the Place de la Bourse. Among all the songs they could have played. They chose this one. I started dancing a bit with Luna, and then we enjoyed the music and drank red wine. It was one of the most beautiful nights in my life. Keep memories awake through the music, guys.

my son went to Cuba at about 20 yrs under the "Medical Supply" group, He was so well cared for by the people and lived with a family...loved the music too.

It's my favorite Cuban song, a masterpiece. The feeling it gives is indescribable

I first heard this song when I was sitting in a small hidden park on the island of the river La Seine in Paris. This small park is located between the two river branches and at the end of the island is a very old willow tree which leaves its branches trailing in the water. Under the willow tree, protected by the leaves, a man was sitting still looking to the horizon listening to this song playing outloud on his phone. I passed by and ended up sitting right behind him for the entire song, and I remember thinking that life had never seem that peaceful before.

I'm obsessed since I heard it the first time 20 years ago. Melody and simple lyrics just wonderful!

Im from England and I don't really know a whole lot about Cuba but when I listen to this song it's like within me I feel deep memories of a beautiful past. What a powerful song.

I discovered this song while studying in France as an exchange student. I think 🤔 I did more partying than studying in those days. Drunk with red wine, smoking gitane cigarettes and discussing politics until the wee hours of the morning. This song was our unofficial "anthem",,, we played it over and over non stop,,, the french 🥖 have a strong socialist leaning, however they forgave me for being American,,, cause they said I wasn't the average American. I think I learned I learned more in the parties than the stuffy exchange classes.vive la France !

I think that Cuban music is the most gorgeous music that you could ever listen to.

It’s a terrific son, one of the best of the last 50 years, but it’s not the golden standard, not even within the son montuno genre. Listen to Trio Matamoros, Sexteto Nacional, Sexteto Boloña. Many more out there.

About 20 years ago, I was a young little store clerk in a Border's Outlet, and a man came in looking for a CD from the Buena Vista Social Club. I don't remember how he described it, but I can remember his facial expressions and the vibe. Whenever I saw the name, I remembered the man. Today, I am listening for the first time.

Great story!

A lovely red headed woman invited me to their show, at the last minute, in Milwaukee. We were taken by the beautiful sounds and the people on the stage, it was like the music was sent from Heaven. We drank, danced and cried at the beauty of the amazing sounds. I believe it was the last show they ever did. It's one night I will NEVER forget.

When i was little i used to film home videos with my lego sets , using an old sony handycam , and forcing my father to record . This song , he put on a cd player , at the begining of the first "movie" i ever recalled recording . Since then it has had a nostalgic feel for me that cannot ever be matched .

Soy de Uruguay y cuando empezó la música de está película en el cine, me atrapó totalmente hasta ahora . Me gusta la plena, la bomba, y otra ritmos , (por último la salsa por ser más mecánica y comercial ) Esto es como la esencia o la raíz del sabor, de mucho de lo que escuche en musica tropical . Aguante el 3+2 y también, mejor más sabroso el 2+3.

Soy peruano y esto es de alta calidad de alta historia de alta eternidad! 🤘
