It is magnificent that Ry Cooder was able to get these guys before they all passed away. I saw them in Houston, about a few years before Ruben Gonzalez passed away. They were gentle, fabulously talented, and funny guys.

You didn't see "these" guys because they only played two concerts one at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the other at Carnegie Hall in NYC. I believe however some of them did tours without Ry and many others

Correct! He is playing humbly in the background as well as his son the percussionist Joachim Cooder. Don't forget the German film director Wim Wenders who made a documentary called Buena Vista Social, including several interviews, and thus contributed also largely to make them famous too.

Ibrahim Ferrer died in 2005, less than two month after he came to perform in Rotterdam, about two blocks away from where I was living, to this day I regret not going to see him playing..It was a missed opportunity for me!

When I was really young in 1999 or 2000 I think They came to Mannheim in Germany I wanted to go there but no one took me Only a Russian friend of my family went and he said it was the best thing he ever saw He was a big jazz fan and he said they were unbelievable Such a energy live 😄🙏 I still sometimes think back and wonder If I would have seen them live I would have remembered them all my life What a chance missed I knew it when I was young that they are very old and I have the chance they come to my city and I have to see them Glad other people went and filmed lots of concerts Cuba poor people suffering because of America 2024 and still American sanctions and blockade against Cuba No one cares no one thinks about it It's a crime against humanity Greetings from Germany and all people like our family coming from the CCCP 🇰🇿😂🚀🌠 Legalize ganja universally 😂 I'm so happy since the 01.04.2024 ganja was finally semi legalized To hell with all politicians worldwide 😂👍🤙🚀

Yo quizás lo maltrate un poquito, y es que vivía de chamaquito en Sonora, y la escuela cuando no me dejaban un asnito, pues me costaba 2 horas y media el ir y otras el regresar. Ojalá me hubiesen llevado en un bus y con climatización, bueno yo tenía aire acondicionado, trmendaso boquete en una bota, bendiciones para usted .

Tuve el privilegio de asistir a uno de los conciertos de Buenavista Social Club en Cancún hace más de 18 años en su versión de orquesta. Ya no venía Compay. Así la había escuchado y así la vi. Buenavista Social Club ahora es una versión acústica, no deja de ser buena, chan chan es un excelente ejemplo, pero extrañamos esas folclóricas e inolvidables orquestas.
