    NEVER remove the muffler of a Buell XB9 and replace with anything other than a Buell race system. No matter how you match up your fuel/air, CMU and muffler you will lose a precious amount of torque in the low end...period. I have the XB9S, XB9R, XB12X, Buell 1125R and also #51 Buell XBRR (2006 race only bought new). Buell mufflers are special. Both the XB9S and XB12S do a top speed of 135mph stock and the quarter mile is a few tenths faster with the 1203cc engine. There were incredible pains taken to sort out the muffler design. It is a technical masterpiece and carries its weight well in the torque curve transition into the horsepower curve. The video's sound of the bike is wonderful but the removal of the original (untampered) muffler raises the rpm needed to produce the torque originally generated by the old muffler. The XB9S is my track tool rather than the XB12S or XB12R. The 'R's were meant for the track but I have found that the XB9S is much more friendly and cuts tight turns with ease. I am 6'3" our son is 6'7" (has an MT09) and we both prefer the diminutive XB9S, especially in NC/TN Diamondback and Dragon. It is my street AND track bike. Great review, thanks a bunch.

    Nice word salad…translation:Dude…you suck at tuning. Jardine with a dyno tune not only adds low end torque but also revs a couple hundred RPMS higher…any competent tuning tech can do this …shit I don’t even have a dyno and I got my maps pretty damn good and I’m NOT a tuning tech, just a mechanic that understands physics 🤷🏼‍♂️… that muffler was designed by Buell to meet noise/EPA regulations at the time and nothing more. I promise you that Buell never ran that exhaust set up on any of their race machines.😂

    Sooo I want to get one of these badasses. Any tips on what to look for? Is it good to get the later ones like 2007-2009? Is it ok to get a low mileage 2003? Would it be worth to get a XB12S? Are there points to especially look out for on these bikes? Mainly city riding and some tighter curves. Would appreciate a response, as I am really struggeling to get a good opinion.

    I rode your uncle's bike. I'm a Dyna Street Glide guy. That XB scared the poop out of me. Yeah, I rode it in the old guy lace up shoes, but damn, 3000 rpm that bike was ready to go! I loved my short cruise on your uncle's bike. Good review, kid.

    Welp, my helmet and camera setup was stolen recently, there won't be any vlogs for a while. Need to wait until payday on the 21st to order another camera setup. I have an idea for a different style of video to upload on here, keep your eyes peeled!

    Hi there just came across from your other channel. Always wondered about these Buells and I am over 6 feet aswell so that's a bonus to know lol. It does sound good under acceleration. The look a short bike but still considering one. Both great channels and as mentioned cant wait for the 1200 Sportster.

    Right on, thanks Stevo. As mentioned, the seating is a touch cramped but if you can get past a few minor drawbacks, they're great bikes. I'd strongly suggest an XB12 though; the extra torque makes them more fun around town, and the 12's also have taller gearing.

    Had one the same colour .with an adrenaline motors adjustable belt tensioner .and rear cylinder intake duct the fuel pump intake sock .I changed for a walpro one .the heat on the seat .I stuck some dynomat to its base .. neutral issues I had to. Made sure the linkage isn't slack.xb12s is a better option. I tried a ducati before buying mine .couldn't live with the sore wrists Great bikes

    I own several Buell's and yes neutral is hard to find on all of them. I always keep it in gear at a red light so neutral is no big deal. My 97 S1 shifts super smooth, but my 00 X1 shifts like an old Mack truck.

    I got the slower Xb12x. 6 foot an almost too short for it. I like riding the Ulysses distances. I agree easier to find neutral going 2nd down. Zip tie on ecm under the seat. Fixed my electrical issue. The fuel pump it's self is from a mustang. I like the engine heated seat. I ride a lot of dirt roads with it and 2 tracks up north.

  • @WillardTurner

    I appreciate the review. I really disagree with what you said about the transmission, though. I had an 06 Uly and the transmission was OK, not terrible, but it was hard to find neutral sometimes. My 05 XB9SX has a really fantastic transmission. It has always been super easy to find neutral and shifts like butter, even compared to my 2017 Honda. Very good points about the fuel pumps and the seat. The heat from the motor on the seat and legs is the biggest drawback for me in the southeast US. It seemed to be far worse on my Uly than the XB9, so I'm happy giving up some of the crazy torque of the 1200 for that relief.

    I absolutely LOVE how these bikes look and sound. I hate how the company ended up. I am looking at one on fb marketplace right now but the dude has no title for it and its kinda beat. so i am kinda hesitant plus with parts being scarce , i would hate to buy it and be left waiting for stuff. ( even though the bike runs and drives perfectly fine ) btw , i notice you are in phx area in this video. would have been a good video if you were able to take this bike to tortilla flats or a good canyon road during the video.

    That seat to bar reach is definitely short. I'm 5'8 and I think my XB9s was the best a bike has ever fit me. It gave me that supermoto "sitting on the tank" feel. I also loved that depending on the riding I was doing that day, I could swap between the SCG, S, and SX seats and get a completely different feeling ride. If you're tall an SX seat would definitely help. Motor definitely left a little to be desired. I bought the bike from a few hours away with no test ride. Pulled out on the road and the first time I gave it a handful of throttle it redlined and I remember thinking "uh... where's the rest??". Still loved it though, and probably would've kept it longer if I had bought the XB12. Ended up buying an S1 years later, and it's definitely the Buell I should've bought from the start. I'll keep it forever, and no worries about finding random parts like I would with an XB.

    Good video. Cool bike. Pretty sure the lack of power below 4K is the gutted exhaust. Those cams are pretty mild and make good torque

  • @DoctormotorcycleToo

    @DoctormotorcycleToo

    It's just the nature of the short stroke XB9, though the exhaust probably isn't helping. What would've helped a lot is to richen up the fueling down low (and probably everywhere on the map really). I'm used to riding a 1200 sportster which has a lot more torque under the 4k RPM area. And now having ridden an XB12 since filming this I'm even more inclined to recommend the 1200.

    @@DoctormotorcycleToo compared to the 1200 ya. But otherwise calling that engine short stroke is a bit of a misnomer. Lol. Probably the longest stroke sport bike besides the xb12 in existence.

  • @CampCatch
    @CampCatch3 ай бұрын

    I will say you should compare the xb9 to the sportster 883 and the xb12 to the 1200. I think when making that comparrison the buell out accelerates the harley at any rpm.

    Wassup Jimmy, recently been watching your doctor stuff. Seen your m2 psiclone upgrade. Pretty cool. Curious what state you’re located in? I’m in GA, powder springs area. HMU if you’re close by. I currently have 20 buells. Might consider doing a turbo upgrade on two of my S1’s and my cyclone. Could use your assistance. Good videos!

    This is a hotrodded 883 right? I love the xb12 as a spare bike to have fun on. I currently ride a hammer 1275 sportster with upgraded suspension. I really like the frame gas tank and swing atm oil bag. I think it's next level engineering❤❤. But I think a hammer 90 inch is coming soon to my sportster😂.I can't help it I love allot of torque in the 500lb sportster frames. Not really interested in the 700lb dynas. Torque is what moves you

    The poor shifting is most likely the part of the crank case cover that holds the clutch actuator in place. It starts to crack and the actuator pulls at an angle making shifting more difficult until it eventually separates and fails. Ask me how I know. Lol

    I test rode a 9, but I ended up getting a good deal on a 12. I've had 2 XB12 bikes and I wouldn't go back to the 9. I compared the 9 to the 848 monster and wasn't impressed with either of them, honestly. The 848 was a bit too soft on the hit for a V-twin, though it did have the top end power.

    I had a good friend that ran Buell sales a few years. When he needed tires shagged in on his demonstrator bikes I got the call. Lucky me! I’m with you the 1200 is the way to go. The gear box isn’t much fun. The 12 has enough grunt to leave it in the top two gears all day. The 9 is ok. I’m old and cheap. Nobody loves the 9 and smokin deals are out there. No other bike looks like a Buell and they still look great in 2023. Cheers!

    Grab that ZTL brake with more than two fingers, and you'll be up on your front tire guaranteed! I've been there in a panic stop situation on my own XB9... Gears are definitely clunky... but damn I loved the smile it puts on my face and the face of people on the sidelines
