No, because a mobile charger is only for charging mobile phones. Not for WiFi dongles.

Make a back of the files on to an external harddrive or your Google cloud etc. I think you should be able to download the files from the net!
Do I need to keep the tp-link connected to my laptop or is it that once I get a connection, I remove the cable from my laptop and it works?

You always need to keep it connected! This is the one I kept as it has the best signal strength in any situation ☺️

you can push your wps button on you router and then click on your wifi from your windows pc to connect

All depends on your system from your USB port/drivers to your router and the distance you are from it.
