Budget Soft Roader Build | Suzuki Vitara 4x4
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video were taking this little 4x4 Suzuki Vitara and turning it into a great little soft off roader that will be perfect for exploring the back country roads where I love to camp. I'm calling it a soft road build because I'm not planning on serious rock crawling on, slugging through mud pits or anything like that. Just some basic adventuring in the great PNW.
I'll be addressing some issues like a lack of ground clearance, better tires, lighting and maybe even a safari snorkel?

I've seen these take on some seriously gnarly trails with no more than a couple of inches of lift and decent tyres, they are a super capable little 4x4, even as standard, definitely wouldn't call them a "soft roader".
Was literally just wondering about a taller shock thank you for the parts list
I just bought mine A week ago. Im pretty stoked on building it up a little. Not lifting yet, im going to start with a cold air intake rather than a snorkel, then tires, then lift, then after that the sky is the limit.
I've been wanting one of these for over a year, finally got a better job, starting to save
Excellent video! Liked the explanations a lot
Thx for vid, GV is a under rated offroader. 👌
Nice job on the upgrades bro! Under budget and more off-road ready for sure
I built a similar GV for my Baja car. Look out for the stock plastic air intake snorkel that fits over the intake manifold and to the throttle body. Mine rotted away underneath which I would never had seen if I had not been searching for a coolant leak. It was sucking in raw dirty air and completely bypassing the air filter box. It was those damn little rubber hoses that go to the front of each head that were cracked and leaking coolant onto the valley of the V-6.
Great narration! Awesome detail
My first time off roading was in a built Vitara and it was a blast!
Love this mate👍
Wow I got a 2000 Vitara 2.0 5-door I just ordered the street Rays 2 inch kit in the mail it'll be here Tuesday got a samurai shifter cuz mine's a 5-speed waiting on some 2-in wheel spacers found an actual fitted raised intake waiting for these things to come in the mail in the next 2 to 3 days I'm here in southern Oregon and I come across your video spectacular
That's a nice little build
I have a 2003 xl7 and i've done almost the same mods, 2inch lift, 32s, lights and a roof rack. They are great little offroaders

Hi from Oregon❤ I have a 2004 grand vitara
Great video
👍🏻We had a 2003 4x4 Tracker, then an AWD Forester, and then an AWD CRV. No contest, IMO. When the going gets tough, I want a Tracker/Vitara. I'm looking for 5spd.. 🤞🏼

I have a 1999 Chevy tracker 120k mileage 5 speed in Florida USA in excellent working order. Just drove it to NY and back. I'm considering selling it ;)
Best for offrood jeep I have
I have a 2002 grand Vitara and can say from experience that even stock it’s a competent vehicle for forest roads in the winter. I love breaking fresh snow with it on the forest roads. It struggles a bit in icy conditions off road, but as long as you’ve got snow or mud instead of ice under the tires you really can’t stop the thing unless you totally high center it
Don’t expect great mileage from these. It’s definitely better than your van, but the v6 model wasn’t really the most efficient vehicle. Lots of good information for these on Suzuki forums though. But I’d suggest stocking up on parts if you ever come across wrecked ones, or see them at scrapper.

Nice build , where can I buy a snorkel for grand vitara xl7? it has air intake in front left corner
Pretty cool build iam doing the same thing where did u get the snorkel from?
Hello Donnie. What shocks did you use up front? Best regards Conny from Finland

I have an 03 tracker added the 2 in spacer can anyone help on wht shocks to get to help get a smoother ride.like wht other year of vehicles have the same front and rear shocks 2inches longer for a 03 tracker 2inch spacer lift
How did yoh get the front wheels to camber?
i have a suzuki grand vitara 2004 and it has almost 400k kilometers, would it be worth it to put a snorkel and lift on it? i dont wanna spend the money for it to die a month or 2 later
Hey @DonnieDispersed those little notched areas on the intake is that to release debris before it gets to the airfilter? If not look into a Snorkel Head Cyclonic Pre Cleaner (round ones). Amazon has em $30 & up. Toughest part might be finding the right size. Too big it won't clean like it should & too small will restrict the airflow too much & starve the engine of air. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
@DonnieDispersed

I believe that is how the head is designed to work. Letting stuff fall out before it gets down to the filter.

Looking forward to a long term review & what the air filter looks like since you put it on @@DonnieDispersed. Save the old filter for a comparison if you could.
So what was the idea behind the manual hubs? These rigs don’t engage the front diff at the hubs, but rather in the differential itself. I suppose disconnecting the hubs from the driveshafts would provide a tiny mpg improvement?
@DonnieDispersed

Better mpg less daily wear and tear.
Hey brother. I’m just curious if you kept the same original front shocks and just added The lifting kit. I just bought an manual, v6, 4x4 and I’m thinking to work on it.
@DonnieDispersed

Yes I reused the front struts because they were still in good shape.
You said the shocks are for a 2wd toyota tacoma what year? the the KYB 554350 you linked in the description are listed as rear shocks for the 4x4 tacoma
@DonnieDispersed
Жыл бұрын
I confirmed the ones I linked are the ones I used. When I referenced the part number online I believe it said it fit the Tacoma Pre-Runner which is why I said 2wd but it makes sense that it would fit the 4x4 and the prerunner.
would you happen to know if the 2002 xl-7 model has the same rear shock mounts?
@DonnieDispersed
Жыл бұрын
Can’t say for sure, but I would assume so.
Hello, I'm thinking of doing something similar with my 2nd gen Grand Vitara. How did it go with the new tires and lift? Do they touch the body or is there no rubbing? Do you think it might be better to use 235/70 R16? It's practically the same height.
What year Tacoma for those shocks?
Did you have to remove the rear bump stops to get the spacer on? We have the same lift and it won’t sip on over the bump stop. We can’t get the bump stop off.
@DonnieDispersed
3 ай бұрын
If I recall correctly, I removed them and modified them to work with the lift. It’s been a while so I can’t remember exactly what I did
I didn’t notice in your video what you did for the front shocks to get the extra extension. Are the Tacoma fronts compatible with the GV? Thanks
@DonnieDispersed

Stock KYB shocks in the front. The lift kit spaces the front struts down from the body so the shocks won’t see any additional travel up front.

@@alfredorenteriavillanueva7462 I ended up notching out the top hole on the lower part of the strut. Then welding, a thick washer in the correct spot so it wouldn’t slide back. First I tried aftermarket camber bolts, they helped, but didn’t quite get it all the way.
