Budget KING? H510 Motherboard with an 11400F (vs 10400F, Ryzen 5 3600)

Are H510 motherboards WORTH it? Surely at a cheap price, support for 3200MHz and the ability to be laid on an ITX board, it does seem all great. However only tests and benchmarks can tell us all the answers.

I am at quite a bit of a struggle right now. I am using a an i5 3570k / gtx970 atm and its allright. 99% of my games contain of league of legends, world of warships, elite dangerous and stuff like that. and with none of these i have any issues at all running above 144fps. but the issue is the amount of cores and multicore performance. So if i also wanna watch a stream on the side and have some browsing in the background i can pretty easily hit 100% cpu load. So i am fine with the actual performance, i just need to have more cores so i can do background stuff too. But right now i dont want or can spend that much. An intel 11400f is kinda meh... together with mainboard and decent ram i easily hit 350-400 euros wich i dont wanna spend just to background browse better. So 2 options that i m thinking about right now would either be: switch to a xeon 5675+asus sabertooth and reuse my 2400mhz ddr3 i have on my current system or maybe a ryzen 1600af. i wasnt even aware that there is an ''af'' version or like a new 1600 version with 12nm instead of the old 14mn one, it looks like its kind of a new cpu alltogether and it goes as low as 110 Euros while the i5 is sitting close to 200 Euros so its almost half the price while still giving me 6 cores 12 threads fully unlocked for overclocking and with am4 beeing a much more future proofed option compared to x58. a decent am4 board costs almost the same here as a decent x58 board like an asus sabertooth, p6t or anything like that. for the mb+cpu i would spend 80 bucks more to have the ryzen over the xeon. i just need to get some cheap ddr4 then. Whats your oppinion? is it even worth opting for the xeon with that high of a price on x58 mainboards if a a recent ryzen combo literally just cost 80 euros more? The ryzen 1600af is a cpu from december 2019 after all so technicly pretty much a 2020 cpu wich is pretty damn recent over all.

Hey Brian, I'm looking at 11th gen for my next build and I'm extremely confused by which features I gain/lose by using each chipset (z590, h570, h510, b560) and what features I gain/lose by using k and non-k processors with each chipset. A video explaining the features you get with different combinations of processors and chipsets would be extremely helpful, even the unlikely pairings like a b560 and 11600k

What he don't speak about in this video is Power Limit, 11400 need a mobo capable of delivery at least 125w for use maximum MHz in Turbo mode, if the H410 delivery only 100w, you will loose ~10% in performance. See the Hardware Unboxed about performance diferences in B560 motherboards.

You don't need a video for difference between k and f designations.... k is unlocked for overclocking whilst the multiplier on f motherboards are locked. In terms of motherboard features go look up the specs. You want to look for stuff like overclocking support (CPU and RAM). Given how GPU centric gaming still is, and with prices still well above RRP, running stock "f" CPUs with "entry level" motherboards to free up capital for a decent gpu is becoming very attractive.

  • @vinyfiny2019

Not a chance. Cheaper SKU's are less profitable, and AMD is selling everything they produce at the mid-high end for the most part. The only reason they would come out with cheaper parts is if their yields weren't good and they had a lot of partially defective chips, but Zen 3 yields are really good. At this point it's more likely that we won't get "budget" AMD parts until the 6000 series, and that's assuming shortages get worked out sometime next year.

When you "tune" your review of the product based on its availability and pricing in your country, it makes your entire review relevant only for your locale. As a viewer from a far, far away land, I'm less interested in your opinion on pricing and availability, and more interested in the immutable technical detail, eg, which H510 motherboard, how to set it up, to achieve your benchmark results, whether the max memory speed is controlled by Intel through via the BIOS or by the board manufacturer through the number of layers, and so on. Great review, thank you.

This is what Intel has needed for years, and why AMD has completely taken over. It's basically the new R5 3600. But cheaper, and slightly better. But i think B560 will be the combo of choice with this chip as the Zseries board are just too expensive, and the H series Boards don't give it the full user experiance. If you use a B560 you can overclock memory. I don't know how much impact that has on performance, probably very little. But it's better than nothing, if you aren't going to pony up for a Z series board. Or you know, just get a 3600 with b550 and you can overclock both the memory and cpu.

Only b560 and h470 support memory OC. Had a b560 and the boost algorithm wouldn't let a 10100 or 10400 go past 3996mhz. All cores were always synced and therefore the cpu/bios thought...max all core turbo is 4ghz bro...you can't go further. No single core boost...so I returned the board. I think there has been a bios update since, but I'm don't with asrock garbage boards.

Jup, great board. 11400 runs 4000 MHz mem easily on that, though the Vdimm is limited to 1,45V max. Also the sustained powerlimit is limited to 100W (enough for max. allcore boost on the 11400 for most workloads). VRM is fine with a 8 phase controller and vishay sic654 (50A) powerstages (6x for CPU with a beefy cooler). Idle powerconsumption from the wall (with iGPU) ~19W :)

For i5-11400F you need a motherboard whose VRM delivery at least 125w, if not will can loose up 12% of performance (see Hardware Unboxed video), since the Turbo mode MHZ will be limited. Probable none H410 mobo VRM was capable of more than 100w. Look for ASRock B560M Pro4.

Ok, so, serious question, have this motherboard at moment, am running a i3 10100f, gtx 10606gb, still plays games fine with even this cpu, but thinking of getting 11400f or 10400f , rather get 11400f as single thread performance goes from 2600 to 3060 with i3 10100f to i5 11400f but would also consider a 10400f , have the memory to suit and don't want to stress with high wattage settings, so question is would the 10100f to 10400f actually net me anything as both have single thread performance of 2600 approx , just more cores 4-6. So what would you suggest I do?

I think you should go with the 11th gen i5, you won't see much gaming performance difference pairing the i5 10th and i3 10th gen with a gtx 1060 anyways, so might as well go for the i5 11th gen with stronger single core performance and also better for future proofing.

I am dealing with my new motherboard, ram and cpu that will not boot. Its a gigabyte z490 gaming x and have a 11400 11gen cpu. I did know that you need the bios update for the 11gen cpu's to work on the 490 serie motherboard. But.. trying to do that with the new bios on a USB stick and using the q flash plus option on the motherboard of will not begin to flash. So i do not have a option so that the bios will accept the new cpu. The motherboard is also new so i dus not had the option to update the bios before installing the cpu. Does this mean i need a 10gen cpu so i can update my bios? 😅🤯

  • @shannonrhoads7099

    @shannonrhoads7099

    Жыл бұрын

Yes, you could install an I7-11700K on an H510 motherboard and use the integrated graphics. You would be leaving performance on the table, though, as you wouldn't be able to overclock the 11700K and most budget H510 mobos are going to have some bad power delivery compared to their more expensive B and X series counterparts. The non-K 11700 would be less of a performance loss, although depending on which H510 board you had you might still see a loss. You'll also want a lot of ram, as you'll be using system ram for the iGPU. On the plus side, you'll be able to use XMP profiles for your ram with that 11700K. Then again, B560 Mobos were all over the place with power management and a good H510 board is better than a bad B560...

Epic and very relevant to the current crisis of over inflated ooold parts. we're talking over inflated and several generations here, VS buying new with newer features, warranties and longer relevancy before becoming obsolete. Because one thing for sure, when the market does correct itself, you wont be paying anywhere near a $500 for an 8GB Rx 500 series GPU. They'll be going out the door at nearly dumpster prices. As well as the GPU 710's and 1030 which are being sold at stupid prices new... Sigh maybe a year until that stage "end of 2022" production to meet demand.. Maybe then with the flood of 3060Ti on the market from mining collapse - one can hope - a dodge of hyper inflation.. cant see that happening we will actually get the next gen cards or even gen after! at actual msrp..
