I was 15 years old in 1958 and he was killed the day before my 16th birthday. In those days we started work at 15 years of age and I didn't want to go to work I was so broken hearted, but my mum made me go. He is still to this day, I am now 77 years old, one of my favourite singers and all his records are on my play list which I play every single day. I seem to be locked in the past of the late 50's and early 60's, the best time of my life because that is when I met my wonderful late husband. Oh to go back and do it all again.

We got John Lennon to carry his legacy.
Buddy Holly was the real deal, to say the least. This raw recording clearly demonstrates what Norman Petty heard (the diamond in the rough) when all those cats from Nashville wrote him off. Thanks for sharing. Kudos to Cricket drummer Jerry Allison, one of the nicest people I've ever met, and a pioneer drummer who does not often get the recognition that he truly deserves!

I've been playing guitar for 18 year's, I recently got serious about music about 9 month's ago, and started hand writing lyric's and chords. I have filled one song book with 75 song's that range from probably 12 different decade's, I even know a song in my native Welsh language that date's to at least 1823, but records indicate the song could have been passed down for eon's. 2 song's into my new song book, had me asking myself why I hadn't done American Pie sooner. And I guess, because it's 8:30 long, but after doing it, I had to ask myself why I hadn't done a Buddy Holly song, sooner. And the answer is, that I just hadn't found the right one, yet I started performing "Maybe Baby" 3 day's ago, and I kidd you not, I have the ability to sound exactly like Buddy Holly in that song, yet I find that when I take his energy, and emotion that he's applying, and put it into my own voice, I find that it has even more range, depth, beauty, than maybe even his. I sang Glycerin today for the first time too, and it was ba. I guess I'll just be a one man show, all the drummers and bass player's in East Texas are apparently building cock shaped guitar's, and smoking dope lol The spirit of Buddy Holly lives on.

This has to be the best version of the song. They turn a soft, sensitive song into a raw rock n roll powerhouse. That is quite a strong riff and live they made great use of the riff’s dynamic.

I mean, I'm kinda glad that we in this universe have never had to deal with "Lame 70's folk rock Buddy Holly" and "Lame '80's Christian Rock Buddy Holly". Little bit miffed we didn't get to see Buddy play on that rooftop with those boys from Liverpool in '69 though.

Best live perfomance of a rock song ever. In my opinion!
RIP Buddy Holly. Love from everyone here who had the pleasure of knowing a little bit about your spirituality from your recordings. The music never died just like your memory will continue into this century and following centuries. You started a fire that can never go out. Minimalism within a self contained band was your legacy. Melody that was simple and intricate at the same time was your gift. Passion for sound from any direction or background was your expression. Love for you will never die.
Here I am here today February 3, 2022 (63 years after the Day the Music Died) listening to Buddy Holly. That shows he is immortal. Gone but not forgotten.
Is it normal to have goosebumps during this song?

Here too Every time i hear a Buddy Holly song goosebumps and tears in ,my eyes ,he lives forever in his music
Damn that voice makes time stand still. I'm from Lubbock and I can't get over I live in the same city where buddy's spirit is and grew up. I feel it everyday baby,
Wow, Buddy was a very special man, i think he would have gone on to write songs for other artists like Elvis, i know when Buddy came to London, he had future plans to open his own recording studio, what could have been! He will never be forgotten, his music will live on. Rest in peace Buddy Holley.
I never knew anything like this existed. It's so wonderful that it does.
This live version is interesting because we are able to see the development of the completed song from the unsatisfactory prototype in a different time signature, through to the successful studio version and on to what Buddy did to it in order to make it work in live performance without the backing vocals. I think this version is great!
I love this guy and his music! Buddy Holly is alive in my heart!
This man and the Crickets were brilliant..... the Crickets still play some fantastic tunes to this day.
i am still amazed how good this rare live recording is, buddy holly the godfather of rock, amazing singer and guiterest and was a good looking man, he made glasses look cool. a real legend who is so sadly missed, we all know if he was still alive he would of been just as big as elvis, but it is amazing how popular he still is, buddy holly's music will never die.
@jakejohnson168

He wouldn't have been as "big" as Elvis because Buddy would have gone a different route. Buddy was only about the music, not the fame and shit that comes with it. Poor Elvis though, he didn't know what damage it would do in the end, for him personally. Buddy would have kept the realness in music for all time if he'd lived.........he accomplished that despite his death. Life is full of tragedies and there are only so many little good things to distract from the endless bad.

I think Buddy would have been as famous throughout the world as Elvis, if he had lived, i think he would have written songs for Elvis, the Beatles, different musicians, Buddy would have gone in a different route, when he came to visit London, he wanted in the future to have a recording studio there. There was plenty of room for Elvis and Buddy, Buddy will always be my number one, love Elvis too, but Buddy Holley was very special, may he Rest in peace.
The man. He was before my time but what great music he made.
Remember delving into his music round about the sad 20th anniversary of the tragedy . Then I've enjoyed it for 40 years since, we do a couple of buddy's numbers in my band. What a legacy to leave, people still playing and loving the songs. Rave on.
wow after waiting over 50 years to hear this it was well worth it
good old raw rock 'n' roll exactly as it should be heard. A pity there's no film from his British tour
the raw sound is what makes this cool.
Great. First time I’ve heard that. Wish someone could find a film copy of the performance. So little of Buddy performing on film around.
This has such a great raw sound, this is great early rock music
I feel proud yet at the same time alone when I listen to this music. I'm the only one in my town who listens to anything before the millennium. Because of my love for old music the only band I can play with is me and two other guys in their 40s, keep in mind I'm 20. I just refuse to listen to the music of today about death and necrophilia.

1958 and we had a tv. Jack Payne's "Off The Record.... I saw this show...It was both magical and thrilling
Wow, after hearing virtually every recording Buddy Holly ever made, this is a true first for me! Until this, I had never heard the entire live performance of "Maybe Baby." It's interesting to finally hear definitively how Buddy play the lead part to this song and how it's strummed the rest the way very much like "Peggy Sue." Buddy Holly sounded great live, and it's a shame we don't have more examples of his incredible performances! Thanks for sharing this!

Just Brilliant!, Buddy forever!
It’s such a great performance. Wonderful to have a recording of it. Considering how much touring he did 57-59 there are hardly any recordings besides this, what a shame
Very great performance because live it has echos of the British Invasion that would take place later. Wasn't it Buddy Holly that influenced the British groups from across the pond. Maybe Baby has always been a favorite one of mine. The Beatles always said that Buddy Holly was an influence on their music. But the Crickets later covered a Beatles song " From Me To You". It's also a great version. The sad part Buddy Holly was no longer alive to hear it.
Buddy was pretty much the inspiration for all the "British Invasion" bands
template of bringing in the raw guitar sound. His band was very tight as well.
This live version really cooks! Distorted guitar gives it an appropriately raw rock 'n' roll edge.
This is GREAT!!!
Love it. What a great sound by 3 guys. Its like buddy is still here. Bless you, Buddy. Keep rockin!
I was just 10 when he broke "onto the scene." My sisters Pam and Dot and I loved to listen to his music....See you in Heaven, Buddy, Pam!
Long Live The MUSIC!!!!!
Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 - February 3, 1959), known as Buddy Holly, was an American musician and singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll."His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians, notably the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Elvis Costello, and exerted a profound influence on popular music. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Holly number 13 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. "Maybe Baby" live 1958 on BBC's "Off The Record".
This is so cool! Very rare. Thanks for sharing. Buddy Holly is a timeless legend

A broad smile crossed my face when watching the latest episode (July 2019) of `The Handmaid`s Tale` and heard Buddy`s `Every Day` used on the soundtrack. His loss was tragic -- but his music will live on after we are all gone.........

WHAT A GREAT SOUND AS ALWAYS GOOD OLD BUDDY WHAT CAN i SAY ]
This is the first modern rock song. Meaning that Buddy broke away from the typical 3 chord RnB boogie woogie sound that all rock stars had at the time. Here are songs of Buddy's that don't sound like the 50's its so easy, Maybe baby, well alright, words of love, remenising, think it over, tell me how, peggy sue, peggy sue got married, crying waiting hoping, what to do and learing the game.
Wow!! Such a powerful live performance, albeit only the audio. I hope that one day someone finds a print of the Off the Record episode which aired on the BBC on March 27, 1958, featuring Buddy Holly and the Crickets. What a tragedy that Holly left us too soon at 22--killed in a plane crash three miles west of Mason City, Iowa. His career lasted only three years. February 3, 1959, was a black day for rock n' roll. 😢 However, time hasn't dimmed his music becoming popular and inspiring the British Invasion bands, among others. I'm convinced his timeless songs will stand on their own for the next few centuries. 😸🎸😁🎸🇬🇧🎹🇦🇺🥁❤
Your welcome everyehere else... Texas has given y'all some of the best. Buddy Holly, T-Bone Walker, Edgar AND Johnny Winter, Janis, Kris Kristofferson, Jimmy AND Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top, Los Lonely Boys, oh, & did I mention Willie Nelson?!? I LOVE TEXAS!!! Happy birthday, Buddy, I love you.
This is killer, thanks for the upload. I'll tell ya what, I hear Buddy's influence ALL OVER the Beatles' Star Club tapes. That raw propulsion that you hear on this BBC stuff, the Fabs had it down and went gunning for it every time they hit the boards back then. Buddy taught 'em all, God bless him.
RIP Buddy Holly. Feb. 3, 1959. The Day The Music Died.
