The Shuni-e Ceremony of Todaiji Nigatsudo in Nara Japan is a two-week period from the beginning of March, when 11 specially selected monks called “Rengyo-syuu” are held six times a day until midnight. To the “Eleven -headed-Kanzeon-bosatsu”(Skt.Eka-das‘a-mukha Bodhi-sattva) instead of the mistakes that many people have made (the mistakes of the three poisons of covetousness, anger, and ignorance) ,begging for forgiveness (Keka-no-gyoubou),the merit obtained will be passed on to all people, and a new year of peace in the world, peace of the Holy Dynasty, normal wind and rain, abundant crops of five kinds of grains, universal pleasure, world peace, and evil illness. It is a large-scale event to pray for convergence and to welcome spring. This event, which was started by the monk “Jitschu” in 752, was continued by volunteer monks even when Todaiji Temple was burned down by the two wars that occurred in the Middle Ages. In the early modern period, when the number of monks of the practitioners decreased during World War II, and when the air raids of the U.S. military intensified, the lights inside Nigatsudo leaked out and became the target of bombing. The event was continued without interruption by putting a seal in the gap between the doors so that it would not become a problem. This year 2021 was also under the influence of Corona Virus, but it was held and it was the 1270th event in total. From these histories, it is called "Futai-no-gyoubou “(never-returning ceremony=Never stop for any reason), and holds a special position among many Buddhist events. It is extremely special for us in the 21st century to be able to witness the practices that have been passed down since the 8th century, and to hear a statement that can be said to be Buddhist music that praises and memorializes the principal image.
