Budapest Fashion with Joe McNally and the Nikon D850

Ойын-сауық

A documentary look at a life with a camera in hand. Follow along as photographer Joe McNally, equipped with the Nikon D850, turns a Hungarian museum into a fashion set. The notion of the shot, as Joe has confessed, comes from him seeing far too many James Bond movies. The elegant thief, heisting the priceless jewels, sneaking past the sleeping security guard at the ornate museum. But alas, her flowing gown topples a statue! Presumably, mayhem ensues. It was controlled mayhem on the set, for sure. 30,000 watt seconds of light, crew of about 30-40 people. Clients, tech staff, grips, video crew, cranes, electricians, hair, makeup and styling.....a hectic week of big production work!

Met Joe over ten years ago. Blown away by his talent on set then and still to this day. Could watch him and his crew work over and over again. Bravo.

I am sure that was a lighting challenge in the truest sense of the word. Huge rooms and ceilings with details and a complex subject.

Years ago my older brother introduced me to his favorite photographer. At that time I enjoyed watching photographs, but I wasn't interested in taking them. More than 10 years later I got interested in photography and started taking steps towards learning. In the three to four years that have passed since I started my own journey I have kept my eyes open to identifying photographers that I can look up to for inspiration, techniques, advice, entertainment... you name it. I have identified a few that I use as a "reference" for what I can aspire to. And during this small journey I keep realizing that my favorite photographer is the same that my older brother introduced me to many years ago. Thank you Joe McNally for putting out such amazing content for us to bask on. You are-by far-my favorite photographer.

@@JoeMcNally Thank you Mr McNally, what a lovely thing to say. I wanted to try and catch up with you, Glyn Dewis and Dave Clayton this year at the the Birmingham photo show, but I couldn't afford it as I've only recently managed to get back into full time work. Hopefully you'll all be at the show next year(?). All the best to you and your good lady. Thanks again. Best regards, Stewart.

ahahah got to be the first to say - cannot believe you're not tethering to a computer and with a shoot like this a 27 inch monitor. Ok I know your trying to advertise the camera has a touch LCD screen that you can finger pinch on hahahah.

Yep, I've gotten confident in the detail of the D850 screen, to be sure. But, what you don't see in the film is the digital tech, off to the side, equipped with multiple computers and three big monitors. We would shuttle cards to him. He was in turn connected to the client area. They had five monitors, and the card feed translating to them and the live feeds from the video crew, as we were shooting. It was a big production, for sure.
