Bucuresti (Romania) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Bucuresti in Romania.
The capital of Romania, Bucharest, the Paris of the East. Founded by Prince Dracula and transformed from a dictatorship into a fine metropolis. In between embellished Classical and Baroque facades, as well as playful Art Nouveau, are many splendid historic buildings. In Bucharest’s Old Town are the ruins of the Old Royal Court in which Vlad Tepes resided. In 1456, Vlad The Impaler, also known as Dracula, came to power as Prince Of The Walachei. On the other side of the Dâmboviţa River is Romania’s last dictator’s impressive and once-fearsome building, the Palace Of Parliament. Close by is the National Opera House which was founded in 1998 and created as a multi-functional complex. The Templul Coral is the largest and most beautiful synagogue in Bucharest where more than a hundred thousand Jews once lived. The Jewish Cemetery is now a sad sight as it has become overgrown and neglected. The large cemetery in the south of the city is an impressive symbol of death and a work of emotion and nostalgia. Monumental mausoleums, artistic wooden crosses and touching sculptures decorate the final resting place of prominent personages. The historic Orthodox Cemetery is the national pantheon that Baron Bellu had designed in the mid-nineteenth century. Bellu, who also became Romania’s Minister Of Culture And Justice, donated his garden in which the foundation of the cemetery was laid in November, 1852. Situated at the intersection of East and West, Bucharest is a pulsating city, a cosmopolitan metropolis with abundant art and culture, churches, museums and palaces: the pride of the nation’s honour regained!

First of all, thank you for making such an interesting video about my city, Bucharest, Romania! If you allow me, I would like to correct a few statements: 1. Hanul lui Manuc (and not "Manul") - meaning 'Manuc's Inn"; [Manouck]; 2. The Romanian National Opera, Bucharest (Romanian: Opera Naţională București), a historical building of Bucharest, was built in 1953 (and not 1998) by architect Octav Doicescu (and not by architect Dorin Stefan). 3. The 'Greek figures' by the entrance of Herastrau Park are caryiatids, indeed - but dressed as Romanian peasants from Muscel and Mehedinti counties. So, they are Romanian figures! 4. Transylvania and Maramures are two different regions of Romania. Dragomiresti church is 100% from Maramures, where you can find UNESCO sites like this. 5. Ateneul Roman (The Romanian Athenaeum) is not located at the... beginning of Calea Victoriei, but rather halfway from its both endings. 6. The first protests against Ceausescu (the communist dictator) were on the 17th of December, 1989 in Timisoara (an important city, located in the western Romania); in Bucharest, at University Square - on the 21st of December, in Revolution Square - on the 22-nd of December, these were the LAST ones and the most successful, the dictator ran away by helicopter...). 7. 'Macca-Villacrosse' passage was named indeed after the chief-architect of Bucharest, but only because he married one of the two daughters of the rich man that owned the inn located there. Macca was the brother-in-law of the constructor, namely Felix Xenopol (architect). Villacrosse died in 1855, the passage was ready in 1891! 8. Cismigiu Park [cheesh - mi: 'jew]

Thank you for making these corrections. An unknown country and culture for many, Romania becomes subject to innocent mistakes even in very good documentary video content such as this one. While appreciating the effort, the quality of the video and sound, the variety of features covered and the richness of detail, I think us Romanians need to engage pro-actively more in representing ourselves better and kindly and politely engage with people who do take the effort in producing such content.

Nice video and imagery but it's a shame you didn't show anything from the interior of the parliamentary palace building. It is splendid and would have trumped a lot of the other stuff that was shown. Were you denied to film there?

It would have really helped if this narrator first learned how to pronounce Romanian names. The pronunciation of Wallachia was completely butchered. You should have hired a native Romanian to narrate this -- it would have felt more authentic.

I feel so sorry for all the hateful people both Romanians and Hungarians. Those are a small percentage of sad people, usually with poor education and they can't pass any chance to prove that, instead of letting go the past and enjoy the present. But if their present is shitty there is not much to enjoy but the past. I am Romanian.
