    My headcanon is that Bucky didn't want to go to Tony's funeral because he felt that that he wasn't welcomed since he murdered the Starks and never got to make amends with Tony. Which explains why you see Sam comforting him at the funeral. Had Tony survived, his name would have been on Bucky's list.

    Yet they had Sam act unaware to what Bucky went through for half the show. I understand that they had to build the friendship so it looks like a greater change going from enemies to pals but cmon this was literally Sam’s job and we saw he was great at it in the movie. We also saw that they didn’t forget as they tried to reason with Karli using his background. I get Sam hates Bucky in the beginning and he has valid reasons but I believe they messed up the way Sam handled the situation in the beginning.

    She's a military therapist and was a military officer herself in combat. She's more than qualified to be doing what she's doing. He needs someone that is straight forward like that. There would be no results with a regular therapist straight out of academics with no lived experience. There's nothing better than someone who understands what you've been through, she knows what she's been through because she's been in combat herself. You're supposed to be completely open with your therapist, the phone thing is still within confidentiality if the information stays in the room. If you're not completely open with your therapist, therapy will never work. I think what she's trying to do is make connection with Bucky, he's completely guarded and close-off, and he's lying to her. If you're not going to be honest with communicating with your therapist there's no point, so she's trying to get him to open up. She's made a lot of progress when she had Bucky hand her his phone. It creates that connection, opens him up a little more, she talks about Sam and how he's ignoring her, and about the importance of friendship and not being alone. Whereas before then, Bucky was lying, not being honest, being closed off, which gets you nowhere. She can't help him if he doesn't open up.

    @@Nevermore093 I get that she can relate to him as someone in the military and that he needs to open up and not lie. But is she specifically trained to treat trauma? It doesn't appear to be her area of expertise. I've seen therapists, and the ones who are worth it take things at a pace you're comfortable with and respect your boundaries. If they notice you're not ready for something, they'll move on and come back later. They attempt to gain your trust. People are more likely to respond to therapists who are compassionate instead of aggressive.

    Also: Asks him what he wants and when he actually gives an honest answer dismisses it as "bullshit" and tells him to do something based on *her* experiences instead of like, finding a way to work with him on the basis of his own experiences and needs. Also, I'm pretty sure she was using the threat of reporting him to the authorites and sending him to prison to manipulate him into talking too. Like she implied telling her about his dreams was a condition of his pardon: pretty sure it was just attending therapy and not re-offending. He's not gonna do that anyway.

    its kinda great writing tho. from the way bucky complain, the therapist must have done this a dozen time trying to opened bucky up, but bucky just keep refusing. even tho he complain, hes also not 100% honest on answering the therapist (i mean hijacking a car gotta be ilegal somewhere). we see from bucky perspective that this therapy is not that effective for him, but we also see that bucky is not opening up to anyone on half of the show.

  • @englishlady9797

    @@Kostte-zp6he If her way of getting him to open up involves gaslighting him, trying to trigger his trauma, violating his right to privacy,, and then mocking him for the fact he's alone its understandable he doesn't want to open up. *NOBODY* would want to open up to somebody who did that to them. This isn't hard to understand. Humans do not open up to people who they know are going to hurt them, upset them or use what they disclose against them. A proper therapist would not have to resort to such tactics. Just listening without judgement is enough to make most people open up. Which is a large part of why RL therapists are required to be objective and neutral. She is none of that. The one time he does answer her honestly, telling her he wants peace she yells that its "bullshit". She gaslights him and then tries to use her own experiences as a basis for telling him what to do instead of taking account of his experiences. Yeah, Bucky doesn't open up to anyone else because guess what? They're *worse* The blatantly mock him, call him an evil monster and a pyschopath, tell him he can't change or in Zemo's case want to kill him. Would *YOU* open up to a person who was trying to manipulate or exploit you and very likely wanted to kill you? Of course he doesn't open up. There is nobody he can safely do so to. Its not good writing: it is the opposite. It is writers who singularly fail to understand why mentally ill people and trauma victims will not open up to or trust people who treat them like shit or make their trauma symptoms worse. Its like expecting your kid to love you and trust you when you beat them. Not gonna happen. As far as illegal behaviour goes: yeah hijacking a car is illegal, but Sam displays far worse behaviour early on. I mean he pretty much straight up gives sensitive information to a terrorist group. Which is basically treason- and he gets away with it. Also, that Senator was engaging in illegal behaviour herself. That dude who was in her car was hitman and she was telling him to assasinate another one of her political opponents. The reason Bucky knocked him out was because he was pointing a gun at Bucky. So in that regard, he kind of had a right to defend himself.

  • @englishlady9797

    @englishlady9797

    @@Kostte-zp6he I still don't think you're getting it. Its likely that these are the tactics the therapist normally uses or employs. If he's not opening up from the start, there's bound to be a reason for it. There almost always is. Its possible that last time he told her about his dreams she mocked him or gaslit him or otherwise did something that caused him to lose trust in her. Bucky has PTSD. PTSD cannot be "solved" and does not "go away by itself". That's not how mental health conditions work. The writing in the notebook *might* have something to do with the fact that HYDRA used a notebook to control him and she is deliberately trying to trigger is trauma to get a reaction. That is *not* how you deal with people who have trauma, at least not until a lot later down the line: and even then you are supposed to let them know. The therapists solution to Bucky's PTSD related nightmares of "make amends" or some such nonsense is a really bad away of dealing with PTSD because it is not dealing with the traumatic events and victimization which caused it. It is effecively blaming Bucky for what happened to him and telling him its his responsibility to put it right. Just take an example: some people can develop PTSD due to having been victims of violence or abuse. (Bucky had both..) Imagine if a therapist told them they had to make up to the person who abused them or make amends to the other people who their abuser mistreated as though they were responsible for everything the abuser did. What impact do you suppose it is going to have on that person? I'll tell you- it will make thier problems *worse* and increase the level of stress, shame and helplessness they are already feeling. Yeah: Bucky doensn't open up to anyone. With good reason. How do you suppose Zemo or Sharon would have reacted if he broke down in tears in front of them and told them he was still having flashbacks of what HYDRA did to him and still felt guilt over every kill (even though he was *not* in control of his actions)? They would at best laugh at him and make fun of him. At worst, they would tell him the guilt and pain he felt was not genuine, and that he should probably just kill himself. Again: would *you* open up to someone in those circumstances?

    I get that they needed to have a therapist that is straight forward, can see through a patient, lying or being able to put on a good face, acting like they are fine when deep down they are not truly fine. I’m glad Bucky has a therapist like that. However I didn’t like how she called out everything he has endured, how alone he is, all of it basically shoved in his face. That’s not a way to process everything he has endured. That can cause people to shut down. Just like a teacher shoving too much information at once onto a young student and expecting them to get it right within a few minutes then ace the test with flying colors. Go easy when it comes down to personal things in Bucky’s life please. Bucky’s smile is priceless. Love it. Thanks for uploading.

He’s relatable because he is flawed He represents the human condition The Winter Soldier & Civil War are two of the best MCU movies IMHO The Falcon & the Winter Soldier was awesome because it got to really explore Bucky, Sam & even Zemo at a depth not possible in the movies. We learned their emotions, fears, regrets & hopes. They are truly dynamic characters. Sebastian Stan, Daniel Bruhl & Antthony Mackie all did incredible work. Their acting was superb but not only the drama but their moments of levity were great. The Falcon & the Winter Soldier turned out to be even better than I imagined.

    I actually really like the Therapist character they gave him to talk with. At the end she said she was also a soldier who saw a lot of death in the field. I'd guess she's probably in her 50s for age. From her frustrations with Bucky they have definitely had several appointments in the past but Bucky continues to be a wall. (Possibly he's had to talk with her for about a year.) We don't know if she is the first or maybe even the 4th therapist Bucky has been assigned, but what we do know is she pushes back and he listens. He doesn't like it, he's annoyed by it, he makes counterpoints, but he never yells back and also he keeps going to their sessions. If there is a session, I hope they keep her.

    Honestly, i just learned the meaning of cinematography of bucky barnes at this time. 00:01 its close up shot to bucky at the medium top head. That means he has nightmare from the past that tored him down. He wants to move on from who he was, but he couldn't. In that case he so on depressed. That's why this angle shot are top on him, because he's in low character. And the same shot to the therapist, that means she's the one who want bring him back about his past and talk about something bucky didnt like it. That's so pushing. And 00:32 this wide shot of bucky with vibes empty/loss/sad. That means he's in doubt. Like no purpose. That's why this angle took in the middle. 01:05 Medium close up, that means he start begin with something. From 00:32 (wide shot) in doubtful feeling, to medium close up by making something different for his first step. And this angle (03:12) this is half angle. I think this is represent that he's in felt nothing of what is his doing, still in doubt about himself, but feels little better because this distance shot is very close from this shot (00:32) Well i guess thats what i think about the meaning of cinematography about bucky's character development. To be honest, this is great cinematography. But this is my opinion.

When he refuses to speak she purposely makes a nervous setting so he feels pressured into talking. 3. 0/1000 patience 4. She’s just awful man he needs therapy from his therapist- 5. Make him feel forced to talk and when he does or slightly aggravates her and you can see he purposely aggravates people to cope, she proceeds to insult him and tell him he’s alone, his life is sad and that only calling your therapist is a sad thing.

    Ugh. Everything about this scene. Its clearly been written by people who have no experience of therapy, mental health or PTSD. I mean the "therapist" is not only a rank incompetent she may actually be guilty of malpractice. Violating your client's privacy by checking their phone? *Really?* Gaslighting them- which is what the "bullshit" thing was? Therapists are meant to listen, not judge thier clients and tell them thier wishes and desires are wrong, and above all they're meant to be neutral. I want to know how *precisely* "making amends" is supposed to help with PTSD related flashbacks and nightmares too. I've never heard of such a treatment. Also: that whole thing with the phone. Ugh- it just angers me so much. This is a man who was robbed of his autonomy, including autonomy over his own body and mind for 70 years. His newfound right to privacy was something that probably meant a great deal to Bucky after all that, and to just have it so casually ignored like that must have been really upsetting. Someone bought up another point in the comments too: Bucky was experimented on and held in a Prisoner of War camp. Its very likely that as a result of that he disliked Doctors and anything that resembled an interrogation or test would have been triggering as well. He was almost certainly interrogated in addition to having been tortured and experimented on in that camp: and honestly, this "therapy" session doesn't look too different from being interrogated. No wonder he was reluctant to open up.

US government.... "Yeah the tortured former military vet we hired as an assassin might be a bit disturbed. He needs therapy". He needs a rest, and like compensation. Also whose idea was it that he "make amends" to the powerful people - i.e Senators who were using him in the first place? They should be making amends to him.

I don't see how a billion-dollar company that literally has the budget to bring therapists in and ask them how they would handle something like this has an excuse. I don't know why Hollywood thinks having more accurate representations of therapy is bad or boring. Sounds like you could definitely see a lot of a character with that method.

There’s all kinds of things first responders and soldiers can do to start reclaiming their hope and their mental health. She’s just hurrying him along for the plot. In real life there’s a lot of baby steps not being displayed in this script. And no, you don’t need to be an ex soldier to help others. But in this case I’d have made sure he got a male therapist. He deserves that much respect imo. Not a lady. That’s counter intuitive and lacks common sense. He’s a WW2 gen soldier. He should be talking to those guys too. The few whom we still have left.
