Bucks Fizz Icon Mike Nolan Announces Departure from Band for 'Personal Reasons'
Mike Nolan, a founding member of the renowned 80s pop group Bucks Fizz, has made the decision to retire from the band, citing personal reasons. The announcement was made during a live broadcast on BBC Radio 2, where Nolan, alongside current bandmates Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston, revealed his departure plans.
Nolan, 69, expressed that after considerable contemplation, he felt it was the right time to step away from the group. Bucks Fizz, now known as The Fizz, gained fame for their Eurovision victory in 1981 with the hit song "Making Your Mind Up." The band has enjoyed a 43-year journey with various lineups, with Baker and Aston affirming their commitment to continue as The Fizz.
In an official statement shared on social media following their appearance on the Michael Ball show, The Fizz confirmed Nolan's departure at the year's end, with Cheryl and Jay continuing as the group. Nolan is expected to release a personal statement in the coming days.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, Nolan elaborated on his decision, citing personal reasons and expressing frustration with the extensive travel demands associated with band commitments. Hindered by his inability to drive, Nolan highlighted the taxing routine of cab rides, train journeys, and overnight stays required for performances, a routine he has endured for four decades.
