He wears the bucket and mask to cope with anxiety. Not sure if its stage fright or agoraphobia but hes notoriously private and for many years no one even knew his name. He loves basketball and has several songs dedicated to Jordan and Lebron. He also has several songs dedicated to his mom and his aunt Suzie. One of his best is a nearly 30 minute ballad for his late mom called "Hold Me Forever". He hands out quirky toys at his shows and is known to play requested songs on the spot. He has over 300 studio albums of original compositions. A very humble man whos genius on the guitar is unmatched.

I'll add that by wearing a mask and being visually anonymous for decades, he achieves other things too. Like Japanese Kabuki, he removes his real appearance from the performance, it's all about the art. Plus, he doesn't have to worry about being mobbed due to fame. We likely wouldn't recognise him if we walked by him on the street, and that's the way he likes it. He may well be the best living electric guitarist on Earth.

This guy brings tears to my eyes, not only is he a great guitar player and played for a short while with Guns and Roses he's the most unique individual in the world in my opinion. Suffers from anxiety, stays as private as possible, never swears or curses, refuses big time contracts and chooses to play in these dive holes, hands out quirky gifts, lets others play his guitar, loves his mom and family more than anything and talks to big time managers through puppets while being a vantruiliquest, lol

I read an interview from one of the editors of Guitar Player Magazine, and he has "sponsored" a number of young guitarists over the years, and Buckethead came and lived with his family for a time. The editor said that was a really kind person, who would spend hour after hour in his room, just playing his guitar, for 9 or 10 hours straight. He said that while he had a natural aptitude for playing guitar, the amount of time and effort he spent practicing and learning was mind blowing, and that's what really makes his playing so spectacular.

I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Bucket, I'm not sure if even those that like and follow him know all the work sessions and behind the scene work this guy has done. He's a monster player and if anyone argues that he doesn't belong with the top 10 of all time, then they really don't know him... Just a great guy and off the hook talent!

After binge-watching him on the NatterNet channel since then, I am CERTAIN Buckhead is the greatest electric guitar player of all time! There's a reason there's extra emotion in this song. Soothsayer, was written for his aunt. The woman who bought him his first guitar. Who was dying of cancer, and did pass away. She got to hear this song before she went, a full studio recording and my favorite take of this song. So, there is a ton of emotion behind this song. Incredible song through and through. The story behind the song, and him being her soothsayer on her death bed and letting her know that she enabled a life he never could have imagined and allowed him to find his life's greatest passion. This song means literally everything to him.

Buckethead aka Brian Patrick Carroll currently is my favorite guitarist . Only discovered him three years ago via Pandora. There is a video of him unmasked . Seems to me he's shy, self conscious, can't sing and fortunately not like others won't torture us trying. I respect that. Also if he was standing in front of you at the grocery store line you wouldn't know who he is. Reminds me a little like Jim Morrison in looks.

Interesting fun fact about Buckethead. A long time ago sometime around the early 90s he was gonna play Leatherface in a cancelled Texas chainsaw massacre fan film made by the son of the creator of the series. Called Texas chainsaw manicure. It's actually a lost film but small clips have surfaced over the years. Edit: it was actually called all American massacre but Texas chainsaw manicure is still a hilariously interesting also sort of lost short film that also has some clips that have surfaced over the years.

Buckethead is the ultimate enigma. Not because you can't see his face, or he never speaks, or there's 37 different and contradictory origin stories about him. Because no one should be able to play with that much technical ability AND passion. You get one or the other in those quantities, yet he checks off a 10 on each. Tied with David Gilmour as my favorite guitarists, because they are complete opposites in style. 🤘🧙‍♂️🤘 Rich the Ancient Metal Beast

He is terribly shy i am just glad he found a way to share his talent with the world. Bucket and mask works if it gets him on stage his style is technical and beautiful maybe greatest ever. You totally would have heard of him if he wasn't bucket head. I mean I said Hendrix is the goat and no one will ever come close then I heard buckethead and it don't feel right saying it because Hendrix is a legend but I don't see Hendrix being able to play Buckets music but I think bucket can do Hendrix's

Brian Carroll wears the mask because he goes to war when playing guitar. He sweats, he's completely blind in it, hard to breathe, difficult to concentrate It makes him the savant that he is Buckethead can play like any guitarist. He can play any riff of any song. But Noone can play the way buckethead does. He was a guitarist for guns and roses. If you find his audition tape, he is very young, and wearing a see through but hazy mask. His eyes and mannequin face reveal every expression a human could have in one short moment of time. It's chilling and he's playing a keyboard for it while guns and roses were in his bedroom His pike albums take you on a spiritual journey you never knew you'd need. It's life changing harmonics If you could bottle human consciousness and transfer the energy into a guitar... you would have buckethead.

The best live version of Soothsayer was performed in the great american music hall back in 2006. (to find, search: 'buckethead soothsayer great american') Where he also performed a song he hasn't appeared to put on an album. (to find, search: 'buckethead unknown song') Both videos have green-tinted thumbnails.

USA. Buckethead was shredding the guitar WAYWAY b4 the alphabet pro nouns. He’s a legend in the guitar community and definitely one of the most physically talented (long fingers) and overall talented guitar player player ever. He chose to go solo in his career and not mainstream. 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Buckethead is what happens when you get a musical genius mixed with a high functioning autistic person with a severe anxiety disorder. Technically speaking he is one of the most prolific and accomplished artist with a guitare humanity has ever produced. You are listening the his soul not just his guitare. Always leaves me breathless. Two of my favorites are "Jordan" and "Nottingham Lace".
