I actually like this knife. Pretty cool. As far as USA made stuff I see a lot of people complain but never see them mention Spyderco who makes knives everywhere it seems

You have missed a point if you are trying to refer some USA companies that make their stuff not only in the USA Spyderco has never hidden where their knives where made thus they don’t get the complaints from the good old only buy USA made stuff. It’s companies that make out they’re USA made when in-fact they are made where ever but lead people to believe they are still buying USA made . Me personally I couldn’t give a monkeys where the knife is made if it’s a good knife that’s all that counts, like look at some of the Hinders they are terrible off Center but that’s fine just a tweak and it’s centred! Where as for me a $350-$470 knife should be centred and you shouldn’t need to Center the blade it’s just some lazy arsed factor worker not doing his job but it’s a USA made job so it’s ok . Now that was a long enough babbling rant dude you have a beautiful day 😘👍

Thanks MC. Got my 15 minutes of fame on this. BTW, you're dead on correct about the uneven grind. It came out of the box that way. My reason for buying this with the cleaver blade: I hadn't bought one yet and this was cheap enough to roll the dice. If it came in drop point I'd order it again without a second thought.

For some reason I really like the look of this, not sure why but definitely pleasing to my eye lol

I definitely think this is one of those cabelas knives. It's affordable, looks nice, and is a buck so your average person sees one at cabelas and thinks it's cook so they get it. They added some modern touches for the knife enthusiasts but I don't think it's for us. We may a small fraction of their total sales so I think this would do well with non-knife people in Big box stores

I love cleaver style blades. Wharnies and Sheepsfoot are my faves. Just seems that’s the most practical blade shape for daily use.

Just picked this guy up the other day I had to make sure MC approved of it. Got it out to fidget with it at a Subway, and immediately got a compliment. Cause i gotta say, its really pretty, I love the color scheme, its fun to look at. Im a big fan of Buck knives, and i usually dont go for the china bucks, but this one slaps. I really hope they do a Wharncliffe blade soon.

I just bought this knife at Walmart yesterday on a whim. Listen.. I’m not the kinda guy who buys any sort of tool at Walmart… ever. I’m a bit of a snob actually about quality like that. (Wera tools are king forever ❤) Anyway.. So I saw this knife and was like.. what the hell.. why not? I’m actually super impressed with it. Mine was very sharp out of the box and had a decently smooth action. Little bit of bearing lubricant and it’s just as fast and anything else I have. Mind you - I would say my average knife is like.. $300. You bet your ass I’ll carry this neat little $35 buck. Never underestimate these cheaper knives, people. I’ve told people for years now… the absolute best deal in quality and functionality is the Civivi Elementum. And it’s like.. $60 bucks. So yeah, you don’t need to dump your paycheck to get good things. And this Buck knife is one of them.

I use the hole for middle finger deployment it works well for it I found also with a 15 degree mirror polish convex edge it cuts pretty good too

I picked this up, I would have liked to see it presented in a nice box with the usual make you feel good stuff. I’ve carried it and used it. If I see another one I will pick it up and tuck it away because I actually do like using it.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

So upon further research the hole in a meat clever blade is for cutting into bone apparently it allows for you to grab and get more control on the blade

I carry and use this blade everyday it was my first clever I got on that train late I love it, it replaced my model 1 Ontario. I think i paid $42 and some change at Walmart

Lionsteel does the SR-1A integral frame lock in aluminum. Has a hardened steel Lock bar insert of course.

I like having a cleaver knife because of the angle I can Hold it while I’m cutting open a water heater box Rips right through with ease and I bought this one to replace my Gerber flatiron which I’m tired of thumb flicking. didn’t know it was D2 steel but I’m stoked after finding out

I randomly bought this this is the cheapest knife in my collection but its really good for a cheap knife its funny the pocket clip is actually fantastic it burries the entire knife in the pocket

I bought a Gerber with a cleaver blade out of curiosity. I thought it looked cool, but my suspicions were confirmed; there is no point!

There is actually a “point” it’s just more obtuse. It will still do most of the things any knife with a thinner point will do. I always ask people what they used their knife points for, they often say to get a splinter out of their hand or something. How often is this? Unless you work at a lumber yard not likely to be a common Occurrence. Even field dressing game is less risky with a more obtuse blade (so as to not puncture guts!).

@@hunterglaspell5580 While it’s not ideal I’ve processed more game with a Swiss Army knife .I’ve skinned about a hundred animals and a cleaver blade would be my last choice. I’m a carpenter and have a wood stove so I do dig splinters fairly often.

@@fredeschen3783 I’ve always found a sheeps foot to be the best for hunting. A cleaver is basically a heave sheeps foot. I enjoy the design of the cjrb crag because it offers a little more tip, but a tall slicy grind that doesn’t sacrifice on structural integrity. My point is, 99% of what people do with knifes is open boxes and envelopes, and I can easily get through game with a more obtuse point. 99% of average knife tasks that aren’t murder stabby tacticool, don’t require a tip of any kind, let alone a narrow one. Some cleaver designs are ridiculous, but some are essentially a beefed up sheeps foot, which is a less aggressive wharncliffe, which in my estimation is one of the more useful shapes a blade can take. Thank you for your perspective!

Anyone near northern Idaho should swing by Exit 1 in Post Falls and take a factory tour of Buck's American facility. It's a very interesting experience, and they talk a lot about the need to stay traditional, but also offer modern products.

I don't hate this. Bucks are good usable tools and that's how i see them.

I've been collecting cheap knives for a while. I'm just starting to get into better knives. My dad gave me a buck knife as a kid so they kinda hold a place in my heart. I just wanted to check out what people thought about this knife. I thought it was cool looking. But I don't know much.

Honestly, I dont know what the difference between cleaver blades and wharncliffes is besides aesthetics when it comes to a knife this small. I really like it as a work/back up knife and I've always used it as if it were a wharncliffe because it's still got a flat corner point like a wharncliffe. Also, mine has a centered blade and is surprisingly good at slicing, the stock thickness is just a little bit squared as it transitions into a hollow grind and gives it a nice sturdy spine, although not a very useful spine since it could still fold in on your fingers from a spine whack and frame lock failure.

I dislike both lanyards and pocket clips. In the circumstance I imagine at an ATM, deployment is the only thing which would matter. A lanyard isn't going to fight me. These pocket clips I have may or may not. Watch pocket on REI pants is deep enough carry.

Got one. Use it as edc for to month. God knife, solid and strong. but the action is bad...you have to use to much force both to open and close. Orderd my wintherblade factor. expecting the aktion there to be suprime.

I really like this knife but I stood up and the clip caught on my couch and it bent straight out! when I tried to bend it back it broke off! the clip is very poor and it is so close to the knife it is almost useless. they need to put a better clip on it!!

This looks like a pretty good knife, especially for the cost. I don't love cleavers either, but it isn't a crazy weird one. I really wish it was made in the USA. I have no problem with over-seas made knives (most of the ones are own are not made in the USA), but it sure would be nice for the US to flex it's production skills on occasion. Is there a single sub-$100 knife made entirely in the USA that isn't junk? If this knife was $20 more and made in the USA I would probably buy one just to support them.

I think some of the USA made Kershaws under $100 are probably really nice. I believe the Kershaw Leek is USA made and it is one of the most popular folders in the knife industry with now so many variants of the base frame lock model including liner lock models with premium blade steels and scale materials. You may want to also consider the Kershaw Link, Dividend, Bareknuckle, and Knockout as I've heard good things about them.

I suppose the knife is meant to be useful for either highliners or boat people, with a cleaver blade so you don't inadvertently stab yourself. With that in mind, I'm sure the hole in the blade is supposed to actually serve a purpose, but for the life of me I can't figure out what. Perhaps the hole is so that the knife can serve as spare lead (or the world's worst bobber) when fishing.

The hole is likely more of an aesthetic choice on this folder meant to make it resemble an actual kitchen cleaver which is hung from a hook via a hole toward the top of the blade. On a kitchen knife, it makes sense as it stores the blade in such a way that the blade itself doesn't touch anything which prevents contamination with regard to food. On this folder, it makes less sense practically since it will be stored in a pocket which means that it is likely only an aesthetic touch on this piece.

Does anyone actually use a lanyard hole on a pocket knife. I hear that people use them but I've never actually met one in the real world.

I do and seem plenty who do, depends on the size of the knife for me. Slip joints and such I like them. Small fifth pocket knifes too.

I feel similar with the pocket clip, Though I agree with MC. Put the lanyard hole on the backing plate. I for one am totally on-board with the clips that can be changed over for lefties. In my case, I remove them entirely, just keeping the screws in place.

On keychain sized knives or those without pocket clips, I use the lanyard hole either to add a suspension clip or extra length for grip.

Chinese-made, Chinese-branded knife: flawless grinds. Chinese-made, Buck-branded knife: not great, not terrible. Buck-made, Buck-Branded knife: we keep the lights off in the grinding room to save money.

Buck jumping on the cleaver bandwagon? Looks pretty enough, but damn I hate aluminum...

I would like them to stay US made but the facts are right now they can not do that and be competitive. We don't have the workforce. Show me a place shelling out cheap US knives please. I would love to work for them myself.

It's a $35 USD budget knife1! What more do you expect?? :) It's PERFECT for the "EDC tasks" ...."enthusiasts" use knives for e.g. breaking down boxes, opening parcels...makes MORE sense to do using a $35 knife!! ...heh...VS a $75-plus....never could undstand that about "enthusiasts"....where "EDC" means cutting an apple, rope, cardboard boxes, paper...etc. LOL1 To ME EDC means ---in case of emergency. As swas originally the meaning coined by the gun community who "EDC's". They care postols or revolvers "just in-case" concealed (if their state allows) or "open carry" (outside the belt). Insist on using a folding knife for "everyday tasks" get a $30 folder!! :P

Ok, so lets start, looks more sheeps footish to me. lanyard hole is a must to me, so sue me, clip orientation should be offered tip down, tip up is so mall ninja'ish. I want a one hand knife not into flicking insensitively, which comes across as weaponry. would make a good defensive knife however, check out Michael Janich videos, for snap cuts. hole is decorative to proximate fixed blade cleavers. I will buy this knife

I think a major reason other than quick deployment for tip up carry is safety since tip up carry allows you to carry a knife toward the back of your pocket such that the blade can't accidentally open into the rest of your pocket since the spine would rest directly against the fabric. With tip down carry, you'd have to put the knife toward the front of the pocket for the fabric to prevent accidental deployment by having the spine rest against it.

Decent looking, I have a Pachmayr Grunt that has a somewhat similar shape, the grip is G10 and much more contoured than this, the blade is D2 and beefy. It's a cleaver type shape and completely straight blade with more of a point than this one. Also a $35 knife. Made in China though. *facepalm*

I love Buck Knives. Even the ones made in China are pretty good. However, I've never tuned into this channel before, but this review is almost unwatchable. Between this guy rambling on and on about nothing and failed joke after failed joke I wanted to throw my phone

@@Wildwestwrangler either you're not looking in the crack enough or you got a lemon. Mine's a full 1/8" off the back spacer and it was a floor model even.
