I was an early adopter of the Purifi 6.5" woofers. I ordered them for import directly from the company, and paid $3,200 for a set of 8, 4 for each custom tower speaker. 2 each in an MTM configuration with a ScanSpeak tweeter with custom waveguide, and 2 for low-end. I also developed the networks specifically for that configuration, refining it through painstaking trial and error. At one point, I had 6 different inductors hot-glued to the side of the cabinet, for rapid A/B-ing, lol. The result, after all was said and done, is the best pair of speakers I've ever heard, personally. I'd choose them over a brand new pair of Soundlab M-1 electrostats in a heartbeat, and I LOVED my Soundlabs. My point in all this is that the Purifi speakers are absolutely phenomenonal.

Konami Code by Gothcicles (formerly a Madison band that moved to Boston). Danes have the best drinkable yogurt and hearty bread (rugbrod). Great review! I really liked how thorough you are with the features and real-world usability. Your technical / design sensibilities are also appreciated, especially since you also like the more affordable stuff just as much as the many Danish Kroner equipment 😄

Enjoyed the review Matt 👍 I know the chances of you taking me up on this are slim but I'll give it a try. Would like to see you review the Kali IN8 studio monitors. Like the Buchardt A10 they have settings on the back to adjust for the placement and room but are $800 for a pair and they're 3 way's. Kali was started by some guys that left JBL and they are making a lot of positive noise in the industry.

Buchardt makes great speakers. Buchardt offers the A10 Isn’t it small and well built to compete against bigger speakers with its Master tuning. I like this. It reminds me of the early 90’s when you could buy an amp with built in settings. Near field, studio, hall, auditorium, Dance, Rock, Jazz, techno, and flat. But you get to measure your room acoustics. That’s new. Once you have the perfect assessment of your room, you can download a variety of Master Settings. Near field, studio, dance, Jazz , club, hard rock, hall, auditorium, church, coffee house, rap, hip hop, contemporary, bedroom, classical, big band, Hmmmmm. What a great idea packaged in a way that young people will never know existed.

8:45 ... About boosting levels during equalization. In the digital realm, where these speakers are playing, there is a hard limit to how far you can boost things. This is referenced as "0dbfs" ... Zero Decibels (referred to) Full Scale. When eq or tone control levels want to drive above 0dbfs you are going to clip the signal causing a rather surprising amount of distortion. Most proper digital eq systems now allow you to adjust the overall level to compensate for this through a master gain (volume) control. ... so for every db you boost any part of a signal you need to bring the master gain down by the same amount. On some of the older, brain dead, DSP and EQ devices that do not feature a master gain control it is best to turn everything else down, rather than turning one band up. For example, if you wish to create a 3db bump at 2khz... you would turn everything else down by 3db. This remains a consideration even with most properly produced music now being normalized to the "alignment level" (look it up) of -16dbfs .... if the music itself has good dynamic range the levels of your EQ boost plus the music itself can and likely will exceed 0dbfs. The good old days of slamming every band on your EQ to full on are long gone. Matt didn't say if the Buchart software includes this Master Gain feature or not... I'm betting it does. But if it's not there, you will have to be careful of this on your own.

Hey Douglas, great question. I can't say for certain but based off my observations with the automatic room calibration this is taking place, as it applied filters there was an audible change to the master gain after the calibration. Possibly Mads will comment further here if he observes this comment.

@@MattCoykendall1 That's probably an indication that it is curating the eq levels correctly. (Your tweeters will thank you) It might also be visible in the manual equalizer ... Of course the issue I discussed still exists in other brands, so people should be watchful for it.

I really dig the Buchardt look but its a bit of a shame to use real wood on these and such a dark stain, a lighter color or just a natural finish would compliment the design so much better. Also I'm sure I just missed it but I didn't catch the price. Speaking of which it would have been nice to have comparisons and if you think they are worth it overall vs. the many options o high-end bookshelf / monitors and integrated amps out there.
