Buc-ee's or Wally's? Which is BEST! Fenton, Missouri/Route 66/ Great American Road Trip/ Visit
After our visit to Buc-ee's we heard from many people that we should visit another large convenience store back in Missouri, called Wally's. When we would tell of our visit to Buc-ee's they would say, "Oh, that sounds just like a Wally's". So, we decided to go and check out Wally's.
The Wally's we visited is in Fenton, Missouri, just outside of St. Louis on what used to be historic Route 66. This store is the second Wally's to open.
We went with high expectations and were eager to experience another mega convenience store! Our visit was later in the day, about 4 o'clock and the store was pretty busy. When we went the food stations were already closed down and no fresh foods were being prepared.
As much as we wanted this to be better or at least as good as Buc-ee's, it just wasn't. It's a nice tore with so many good things but in out opinion Buc-ee's just outshined them in most areas.
For the area, it's wonderful! There are no Buc-ee's even close in location at this time. I would so recommend stopping at Wally's if you are in the area. It's worth a look. It is big. There are many things to eat, drink and buy!
But, is it better than Buc-ee's, no.

Buc-ees definitely has better hot food overall although I don’t remember seeing any pizza in there so Wally’s gets a point for that. Aesthetically I like Wally’s a lot better. Buc-ee’s has kind of that whole bland beige strip mall feel I hate. Also think Wally’s has a better selection of grocery items but overall, yeah, they have a lot of catching up to do to Buc-ee’s. Still great though and I absolutely wouldn’t mind having either of them or both of them in my community.

There's another big gas station inspired by Buc-ee's called Busy Bee in north Florida. It looks smaller even than Wally's, but its unique addition is a candy wall that dispenses possibly over a hundred varieties of candy sold by the ounce. It also sells novelty sodas, all sorts of jarred goods, pound cake for some reason, and there's a TV in the bathroom. Buc-ee's is still King, and I love going there as it always heralds good times for me.

Bucee's does not carry Coke or Pepsi products in the fountain sodas.

Wallys doesn't look as fun as Bucees. We're getting a Wallys here in Independence, Mo. The employees don't look friendly or happy at Wallys either.

I visited Buc-ees in Springfield MO this week. I’m from Independence Missouri- about a mile from the proposed Wally’s. Traffic will be a nightmare in that location. I would have been happier to see a Buc-ees go in there. Quik-trip probably is not worried about the competition though.
I give them a win for soda and the pizza. The BBQ was eh. A kid was working the BBQ stand. He did not know if sauce on the BBQ. We didn’t get pickles nor onion. I agree, the sandwiches were sitting around for a while. The bake good was grocery store average. Plenty empty gas station pumps. I filled up on the end and then we shopped. I stayed park at the pumps. I agree with your food score. We pulled in 4 months ago on a Sunday night at 6pm. Would it stop again ? The answer is maybe yes. Only because ease of parking my RV. But it’s a side road entrance if you like me traveling from SW missouri to cross river at St Louis. By the way, the beef jerky we tossed out. To salty. Kinda sad had hoped they were better.

I do love how Wally's uses retro logos even for newer brands like Mtn Dew Voltage and Coke Zero. Besides that, I like the unique choices Buc-ee's offers such as their black cherry and orange cream sodas.
