It’s another rabbit hole you’ll get into just watching “Meaning of Spring Day” videos and then documentaries of Sewol Ferry tragedy. And then googling about the Korean president that was impeached and sentenced to prison, resulting from mishandling that incident. Just wow. BTS low key standing up to the powers that be and making a song about something so tragic. Keep in mind, the children on that ferry were JK’s age (born the same year he was). Spring day is my absolute fave BTS song. And that took me a long time to sort it out in my head coz it’s so HARD to find a favorite amongst all of their GREAT songs. Lol! 🙌🏼

@@abigailhardy1446 I am a long time army, I know about the background of Spring Day, it's a beautiful song :) But it's not just about that ferry tragedy, and I am not comfortable romantizicing such a painful incident :( There's more to the song than the references in the music video about the ship. But yeah, I have read about that too.

Jimin’s vocal and dance are one of a kind Jimin’s vocal color is so unique and beautiful and that is why he is sought after.

jimins voice is very special and unique. he has such a tender heart as well. his feeliings spill out into his songs and that is what makes him who he is. all the members of BTS bring a unique sound and talent to the table that other groups dont and never will have. that is why they are icons and possibly legends in their own time,

you really need to check out Jhope's Lollapalooza performance... you'll be left speechless....💕

​@@falling_for3171 They aren't bad song and they weren't just for the charts, they were fun songs realised in a time where things were depressing as fuck, as they were doing other things like vlives and such, to try and cheer up people in the pandemic. It's okay to not like the songs, just don't push that agenda that they made them just for charts.

That beautiful and heartfelt "Spring Day" was written by RM. ARMY call it "queen' since it's the longest-charting song on Melon's digital chart to date. It has now spent 6yrs on the chart.

“Save me” and “Spring day” are more than iconic BTS songs, they are anthems! You need to watch their videos and the context in witch they were written and produced, particularly “Spring day”. Bring tissues.

Spring Day deserves some research to fully comprehend what it is all about (the 2014 Sewol Ferry disaster where 300+ school children died/drowned when the ferry sank (due to the Korean Government being involved in a corrupt cover up-long, involved and sad story). BTS went out on a limb making this song, but they wanted to do something for the families that suffered such losses-in spite of being possibly blacklisted by the South Korean Gov't. It has remained on the charts to this day. If you Google the Sewol Ferry disaster you will find a lot of videos and explanations. That all being said, it IS a beautiful song, and one that touches the heart of all who hear it, knowing what it is about.

I think all ARMY’s will agree you’re totally ready for their live masterpiece: MMA 2019, 37’ I know but I promise you won’t regret it!

Lots of people claim that Spring Day is about the Sewol ferry tragedy. It' was not written specifically about that incident but revolves around the themes of loss, longing, grief, and moving on. RM stated that he wrote the lyrics when thinking of his middle and high-school mates, from whom he hadn't heard in a long time. But the visual concept of the video might be inspired by that tragedy as well as by the book "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" and the movie "Snowpiercer" from 2013. Interesting to know that it is still on the Melon Charts and has been there for over 6 years already. It's in the South Korean Gaon year end charts for the last 6 years as well. 2017 (13), 2018 (31), 2019 (48), 2020 (47), 2021 (45), 2022 (76) It's a beautiful song

Yeah. The song itself was not about the accident, but I am one to believe the storyline of the MV itself was. Too many symbolism’s throughout the video at a time that the injustice of it could not be spoken.

Before you can say for sure that it was not about Sewol Ferry incident AT ALL, I would encourage you to learn more about the tragedy and what it was like in South Korea at the time. The sitting president at the time handled the situation HORRIBLY, and it was one f@ck up after another. Trying to cover up one bad (greedy) decision after another, and not holding powerful and rich people accountable when this tragedy was clearly 100% avoidable, and even when the ship sank, the passengers COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED had the proper authorities acted correctly and promptly. The fact that there was political upheaval after that (families of the victims as well as other humanitarian rights activists were up in arms over this horrific tragedy), there were protests for MONTHS - no one in South Korea was NOT affected. Add to the fact that the children who perished were all JK’s age and BTS themselves secretly donated a lot of money to the family of the victims, we know that this incident weighed heavy in their hearts. We also know for a fact that then president Park also went after artists who sided with the family of the victims because it painted her and her administration in such a bad light (even though she deserved it). Lots of singers, rappers, painters, etc were being black listed by the government if they protested against the administration. You can watch documentary by the New Yorker here on KZread to learn more. This all happened in S Korea by the way, not the US. In Korea, if the powerful want to silence people, they put it into action. If BTS had said outright this song is for the people that didn’t see any justice, the victims and families of the victims, they would have been BLACKLISTED. This incident happened in 2014, back when BTS were not as popular and as influential as they are now. Do you honestly think Bighit would have let them get blacklisted before they even had a good chance to make a difference with their music? They also released Spring Day in 2017 when Sewol Ferry tragedy was being highlighted again because it had been 5 years (anniversary) and STILL no justice. Also keep in mind President Park was impeached in Dec of 2016 - so FINALLY BTS could actually sing about the tragedy and not get punished by the administration responsible for that tragedy. Koreans are not blatant about stuff… they prefer to do things low key. The MV makes it clear it’s about the tragedy (even though they hide it well enough that it’s still up for people’s own interpretation). It’s hard to miss the point especially when they put so many Easter eggs in there, but the actual lyrics are written beautifully to have double meanings (obviously making sure the audience can relate). Also, the Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas - the story behind that is the children bear the burden while the rich and powerful continue living as they please. VERY much like what happened with the Sewol Ferry incident. You can interpret it however way you want. For Korean citizens, the Sewol Ferry incident comes to mind. For international army who have their own loss and mourning, the song definitely touches their hearts as well. It can be about school friends (as Namjoon suggests) because they want it relatable and not just confined to that one tragedy. But my point is - if they wanted to sing about the horrific tragedy that happened to innocent kids, kids their age in THEIR country, how they were FAILED by the powers that be, then they wouldn’t be so blatant about it especially because of the political climate, and possible backlash. A president was ousted and sent to prison - the Sewol Ferry incident got the ball started on that, and it affected their whole country. It’s not an incident that could be forgotten or taken lightly. If this is how BTS wants to reach out to their countrymen about it, I say it’s pure genius. And yes, it’s still charting IN KOREA. Hmmm… I wonder why.

And it’s absolutely fine to interpret a song to fit your own life, but the origin of the song should also be understood. I never said anything about the MV not possibly having content connected to the ferry tragedy. But the original song was written for a different reason. That’s what I think reactors should know. BTS has never shied away from speaking out, so I’m not convinced they lied about their song to protect themselves. This is my opinion based on interviews with RM and Suga.

I know about the blacklisting of aritsts and I know about the corruption. That private divers tried to save the children, because the officials did nothing and risked not only their lives, but also their jobs and reputation. I know that the media lied about the rescue mission. I know that the parents of the the missing children were accused of being money hungry. I know about the protests and I vividly remember the man who bowed down on the floow in court and said that he's not interested in money but the truth. Nevertheless, RM himself said that the song was NOT written about this incident. And why should I doubt that? The MV however had many references to the tragedy. And btw. I'm not from the US. Not everybody who's not Korean is American :)

There's a whole story behind the beloved Spring Day. This song is like a national anthem in SK. It has never left their charts since it ws released in 2017. Its the longest charting song in SK history. There is an official mv and and explanation video...I highly recommend both. It is a pretty heavy song.

I miss hearing you talk: MY GUY. Yes, he's mine too. They all have incredible talent, but I confess that I love the way Hobi masters his flow. He dances with his body, the lyrics he writes and his voice. It's like I'm on a roller coaster ride and I love his versatility.

Spring day it's the most special BTS song of all time, not just for the music and lyrics, but because it's about a tragedy that happened in Korea, and BTS stand against the governament of that time with the hidden messages in this song and the music video (so clever)... one of my fav song ever. Spring day is an important song to me. I got into it when I started listening to bts and didn't realise what the song was about at the time. Coincidentally, it was around the same time my grandad past away. It ended up being a song of great comfort to me.

No, RM did not write this song for the Sewol ferry survivors. The Korean people adopted it to remember the people and all the school children that drowned. Beautiful song!

I loved that you focused on the lyrics of Spring Day. The meaning of the song has shifted so much over the years with the MV taking on the bulk of the focus and even in recent years Army using it to say see you later to the boys. Most people don't appreciate the song as is, raw, as much as it deserves.

QUEEN SPRING DAY is such a beautiful song. Sometimes it's difficult to listen to without some tears. Save Me is such a great song with the best dance break. Still wishing for j-hope at Lollapalooza. 🤞💜

Please watch the music video for Spring Day and the explanation video as well. This song has been in the charts constantly for so long................. and with very good reason

My spouse asked me who the woman singing in Dynamite was... and we figured out that they thought Jimin's part was sung by a woman lol. We both love his beautiful, delicate voice in it. I love Hobi's pretty voice in Spring Day. Wish the studio version was a little more fair. I think Jin does well emoting in the song. They're all so good individually and together. Save Me is one of my favorites. The mv is one of the more simple ones but so well done!

It was a song dedicated to hundreds of students who died in the boat which capsized in Korea. Students went on a field trip but never came back alive. One of the most controversial incidents in Korea. That made me love BTS even more! Please please watch it
