Hi everyone! We see a couple of comments about watching the MV first cause of spoilers, and that makes sense. Our thinking at the time was, we wanted to appreciate the symbolism in the MV before watching it. But we didn’t know it was going to show several clips of the MV. But either way I’m glad we watched them together 😊. SOO GOOD

BTS actually did more than just create this masterpiece. Them, along with their CEO Bang PD-nim met with the families of the victims and they also donated a total of 100 million won. There was also a blacklist happening to artists who criticized the president at that time, but spring day was released a few years after the occurrence of such events. Actually, they have been praised by the Korean people for how they honored the victims which caused the song to be the longest charting song in South Korean history, never leaving the charts since its release (6 years).

BTS and Bang PD made that donation to the Sewol tragedy's families in 2014, the same year that it happened, and everyone kept it secret even the families concerned to protect them from being blacklisted by the government... BTS literaly went to visit them to comfort them.. and what is even more awesome is the fact that at the time, they had absolutly no power and they were themselves struggling financially but they took that money out of their pocket to give it to those they considered were struggling more than them. We knew about it years later, way after "Spring Day", the press release said "It was revealed by victims' families of the Sewol Ferry Disaster that back in 2014, BTS, who were accompanied by Bang PD, personally visited the families, burned incense, donated 100 million won & comforted them.” “Since then, the families have been praying & cheering for @BTS_twt's future, knowing that at the time, BTS could have risked a government blacklist. The reporter explains that BTS' comfort & hope is their greatest reason for success." BTS never once bragged about their charities except for the "Love Yourself" campaign which in partnership with UNICEF, and they have donated a lot, like A LOT, each year since the beginning.

Band member RM created the main melody of the song, which he wrote between November and December 2016 during a walk at Saetgang Eco Park in Yeouido, taking inspiration from the dried leaves that were blown off trees by the wind.[5] "Hitman" Bang, RM, Suga, Adora, Arlissa Ruppert, Peter Ibsen, and Pdogg are credited as songwriters on "Spring Day", with the latter of the seven solely handling production.

Spring Day has been our “Queen” for 5+ years. Why? Because it has been charting on Korean charts for that long. It has never fallen off of Top 100 for that long. Koreans hold that song so closely to them after the very sad and deep tragedy of the Sewol ferry sinking. To have more context, I highly highly highly HIGHLYYY recommend watching the Italian explanation video for it, plus the MV will make a lot more sense, as there’s lots of Easter eggs. But a warning, it’s very, very sad….

To respond to Summer, BTS were under the risk of being blacklisted by the government. A document was leaked later of all the artists the SK government blocklisted. This was not the only time. Am I wrong was also a bit risky... That is the thing about BTS, they will speak up. They have been doing that since the very beginning, with their 1st mini album criticizing the education system and toxic culture surrounding it.

The most touching story I heard about this song, Spring Day, from a Korean woman on her 30’s who was suffering from depression. She said, in 2017, she was walking somewhere in downtown Seoul and heard the song being played to one of the stores, she stopped and asked what was the name of the song. She was not a fan of K-pop but after hearing the song and found out about BTS, she literally became one of the diehard army. She told during interviews that BTS’s songs and lyrics saved her life. South Korea is one of the top 5 highest suicidal countries.

There were other artists back then who attempted to speak out rather bluntly about the whole issue but they were blacklisted by the government in an effort to silence them. Although BTS never said exactly that Spring Day is about the tragedy, the lyrics spoke to the families of the victims and they found comfort in the song's message. BTS and BH also quietly donated to the victims' families. RM once said that the song is about how they miss their old friends but anyone can put their own meaning and interpretation to it based on how they relate to it.

If you want to know how beloved this song is, it’s STILL in the charts 6 YEARS later. The Sewol Ferry tragedy happened in 2014 and this was released 2017. So ALL BTS except for Jin and Yoongi were still teenagers at the time it happened. The laundromat always gets me, all the clothes inside the dryer representing the victims looking out of the ferry windows looking at Jin. We appreciate you watching both the explanation and MV. It definitely shows a level of respect for those affected by the tragedy and also to BTS and everyone that contributed to the song and making of the MV. There are a lot of other content creators and reactors that will just listen to it for the likes and don’t care to educate themselves so we appreciate you and all you do in your BTS journey. Here, When Jin sees up in the stairwell He makes a symbol of the camera and later V does the same and I feel like they are representing the students as some of them were recording those last moments in the ship.. You can search and watch it off camera too.. It's so heart breaking.. Yellow ribbons were used during the protests for the disaster which you can see on the ferry wheel behind Jungkook.. And in the laundry room scene you may notice when Jin is shown through the machine's circular window it looks like someone is watching him from inside of a ship's window.. And in some other video I saw about the scene when Jungkook lights the matchstick. At first there is no one with him but when he lights up the matchstick he is with everyone. It might represent the story of a little match girl where the little girl sees her loved ones who passed away when see lights the matchstick. Jimin finds shoes on the sea shore, This is also a representation of the real incident as many belongings were found after.. Many of them were shoes.. There were ships from other countries nearby and they contacted them to reach there for rescue but they needed permission to cross the border but they did not get it.. It was also said that all of the passengers were rescued during the first announcement.. The diver who tried to save many of the students committed suicide.. One more thing, We call this song 'THE QUEEN' as it never left the Melon 100 chart since it dropped..

The first time I listened to it, I cried tho I didn't even know what the song is about. What's amazing is the last part managed to make me feel hopeful despite the heaviness in my chest that I felt in the song. RM wrote the melody back in 2016 while walking in the park. He wrote the lyrics together with Yoongi while they were talking about old friends whom they haven't seen in a long time.

I'm so glad you finally got to this, I hope you get chance to react to the Italian Army version as well, it is longer and a bit harder to follow along with but there are so many symbolisms that this video doesn't point out which the other version draws your attention to. This video makes you think "yeah I can kinda see the connection here" where as the other version leaves you with no doubt at all. BTS subtly placed so many references into the music video that, unless they are pointed out to you, you won't catch. I think it is needed to fully grasp why this song is considered the Queen of BTS's discography. Just a side note as well, fairly recently Jin did actually confirm that the MV was about a tragedy, confirming Army's theories.

It is both heart wrenching and desperately tragic to watch, but far more meaningful. I strongly advise you to watch it on your own time because it will give you a wholly different level of appreciation for BTS and the song. Prior to the impeachment of the president there were people who were black listed and lost their jobs for making a public outcry. I have to stop everything I'm doing and live in the feeling of the song for a couple of minutes.. this song is unmatched and will forever live in my heart.. I pray for everyone going through a tough time that the breeze of spring eases your heart for a while.. borahae 💜💜

If I’m not mistaken this song was written and released after the tragedy. The government forbid any mention of it. So that’s another reason why the song is so special. They defied the powers that be, and mentioned it. Also yes it has been on the Melon music charts for 6 years.

The original spring day is only 4:34 min long, so it ends a few seconds before, then the rock part is from Spring Day BritRock remix that have been added to the music video version. Brit rock version was first performed by them in a music festival program, later it was released but I guess not on spotify.

BTS and Big Hit Entertainment were recently found to have donated 100 million won (approximately $85,000) to the Sewol Ferry Disaster 416 Family Council. Each of the seven members contributed 10 million won (approximately $8,500) and the agency added 30 million won (approximately $25,500) to the total. Their donation is especially meaningful as it was recently uncovered that there exists a government blacklist on figures in the arts and culture industry. Supporting the families affected by the Sewol Ferry disaster was one of the reasons why people were placed on the list and discriminated against. This is not the first time BTS have been involved in providing aid for the Sewol Ferry disaster. Back in 2014, BTS’s fans donated relief goods to families right after the incident occurred. A representative of Big Hit Entertainment confirmed that the donation had been made, but stated that they hadn’t originally had any plans to make it public. They said, “From what I know, they planned to keep the donation private because they believe that you don’t make donations so that you can tell people about it. The members of BTS made the decision [to make the donation] and because we see this is a personal matter, we don’t think it’s right for us to speak on the matter in depth.” We’re sure that the families of the Sewol Ferry disaster are very grateful for BTS and Big Hit Entertainment’s generous donation. www.soompi.com/article/940069wpp/bts-big-hit-entertainment-make-generous-donation-families-sewol-ferry-victims kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z5N1msaqYsmnZdI.html. Spring Day means so much to me. I know a lot of ARMYs get sad listening to this - I sometimes do as well - but mostly, I feel comforted, not alone with my feelings and lighter knowing it's okay to miss someone. My best friend was in a car accident 12 years ago. She survived but got heavy brain damage and lives in home. The friend I knew never came back. I was struggling so hard for many many years feeling guilty about needed to grieve the loss of her while she survived. I didn't know what to do with myself and my feelings. Nothing had ever really helped me - until Spring Day. It felt like I was finally allowed or ready to grieve fully. Wanting "to erase her" because it would hurt less (as Yoongi raps), but that I won't really be able to because I love her (as Jimin then sings). Something about this song made it possible to live with my grieve, my confused feelings, while still loving and surporting her they way I can now. I hope you will consider checking out the video by Italian ARMY. It's tough to follow (a lot of info, she speaks fast in Italian, sometimes dual subtitles or more) and it's really hard to watch (warning: you see images from the actual day). But she has done so much research and you'll fully be able to see the levels of why BTS is like NO OTHER ARTIST.

In the past, every time I listened to this song, it always reminded me of that tragedy and how the government dealt with it and not a single time i did not cry listening to it. Even now i cry with every listen but this time it reminds me of BTS leaving us for a while as they have to enlist. But it gives me hope that they will reunite again, the spring day will come again, we have to just a little longer. And your admins did right with not choosing Italian army one. I sobbed watching the raw footages of the parents of the kids that lost their lives and survivors, also the clips from court hearings of then president of korea being held accountable for dealing the tragedy in a right way. It was painful. And namjoon is a lyrical genius for coming up first with this song. I owe him my gratitude because this song comforted me in various ways.

one of the biggest reasons why I prefer the Italian Army’s explanation is they get more into what all really happened, this just explains the symbolism in the MV, it is very difficult and heavy to watch, but very much worth it to me, it’s seeing how the government is corrupt, the killed ( basically ) because the ship was overloaded, all signs were ignored on safety issues, the fishing boats that were right there were made to stay back, they had to just sit there helplessly watching the ship sink, the most wrenching part that is not mentioned in the laundry room scene is that you could see the children inside the portholes of the ship trying to get out, but they couldn’t.

One of the things about the Sewol tragedy that is so infuriating is there was a US military boat that had 1000 marines on board, they had helicopters and the capabilities to fly from the ferry back to their ship and could have rescued so many people, plus they were trained in rescue and the Korean government told them they were fine and had it covered. So there was nothing they could do. Like three days later they hired some company that was going to pump air into the ferry to try to keep it as close to the top of the water because I guess for a few days after there is a chance that there are still air pockets in there that could have survivors but this company had out of date industrial lines that weren't even compatible with human life so they would have killed any survivors. The US Marines once again said they had specialist on board that were trained to do it, the had the necessary materials and was told they had it covered. There is a youtuber Stephanie Soo that did an almost 2 hour video on the Sewol Ferry and everything that happened. She did a great job and it was very informative and also heartbreaking. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIGnl8SNgs3Qlaw.html

I actually thought differently, Tae's the only one who didn't get on the boat, and the whole MV he was waiting for his friends to return. All the other members survived except for Jungkook. At the merry-go-round with yellow ribbons, all members were looking for him, yet they couldn't get in touch, this is when Jungkook is already in another world. Later he tried to find his way out, thought he was with his friends, but then a train passed by he realized it's all dream. I think the shoe at the end is for Jungkook. All the fun scenes in the video was an illusion too. In their past stories camera represents dream, illusion, and after all those fun scenes V was holding a hand camera, I think this represents it's all in his imagination.

I'm so glad we finally got to Spring Day! 1- The song definitely has a wider application of loss and longing and grief, more than just the tragedy. It should be noted that, at the time, they weren’t able to confirm they were referencing it in the mv because they would be directly criticizing the corrupt govt still in place. In 2020, they were asked if it was about a sad event and Jin said “It is about a sad event, as you said, but it is also about longing.” If that tells you what a touchy thing it could be for them to admit they were even referencing the tragedy. 2- I’m going to take this moment to voice that I’m a bit confused as to why the admins would lead you to watch this explanation instead of the Italian ARMY one, though? You said it was the admins and some of the people on discord and patreon who chose this one. I tried to find the discussion on discord (I’m a tier 2 member) and wasn’t able to find much, so I’m assuming it was mostly led by the admins? The time difference between the 2 explained videos is just a bit over 8 minutes but I wonder if the the quality and impact it would have added wasn’t properly expressed?

I also understand that the subject matter is intense and heavy, however I think (all of BTS' music, but this one in particular) is owed that deeper understanding of this tragedy to appreciate just how impactful every choice they made was. Especially since the risk of them being blacklisted in the entertainment industry in SK by the govt for even referencing this issue was very real. [Edit: Daniel has said it was by choice because the content was too sensitive for the 4 four of them, especially because of recent events in Texas. This is understandable and wish it had been more clearly expressed in the video instead of lumped in with "too long, too intense" in what kinda seemed like a throwaway comment. I think half the comments wouldn't be about the other explanation. I still hope that they can find the time to go back to it when they're more equipped to handle it as it answers many of their questions and again, I still believe this deserves the full understanding.] I so appreciate you sharing your journey with us and enjoy how much you genuinely care about it. That’s the only reason I’m expressing a bit of negativity in this comment because I love this channel and this is one that is SO anticipated by ARMYs. Many reactors often watch this compressed explanation, but I think I always assumed that it was because they didn’t have any guidance from the community behind the scenes. You guys have been so meticulous (at times, I know you’ve been criticized for being too meticulous about this journey), which is why I believe I find this particular decision confusing. [Edit 2: I still stand by my comments about the admin info/decisions lately and think that's worth an examination. Perhaps at the VERY LEAST the admins could create a channel hidden from you guys where they can ask the community and we could discuss what all we think would be important included in information before you guys do a reaction? I think it's kinda become clear to me that they don't anticipate questions very well. And if spoilers are a concern, they could even make a "before" summary" and an "after" summary.]

Also the clock on the wall is set to the exact time that the clocks on the ferry stopped.
