i dont even understand the need for comparison, they are so different? the whole genre is very different, bts seems like the more traditional boyband with all the dancing (which is bomb af btw), they have a lot of members and apparently from my little research ive done after the amas very much more formal way with the band of someone being a leader, visual and members changing etc.? one direction got so big in the first place bc they were one of the first to steer away from the traditional boy band stuff and they just sang and had fun on stage. both groups have great vocals and are very successfull. ofc one direction carried the title of biggest boyband while breaking a lot of records (apparently still on hiatus, and ofc on their solo stuff) and was _very_ successfull before their hiatus. i think their hiatus gave bts a chance to expand their fanbase to more americans/europians etc. at least i saw many one direction fans direct their fangirl mode towards them since one direction was quiet for about a year before anything really happened with solo stuff. and the one direction buzz calmed down a bit so they had a chance to shine. and from what ive gathered (my fangirl days are more or less over lol) theyve done well. i would say they are the biggest _active_ boyband right now. its hard to say really, which one is more successfull, there are many ways to track that, but its harder when one direction guys are doing solo stuff now. and when one direction come back together (i mean theyve said it a million times so im pretty sure they will) im sure a lot of then gone to bts fans will still go see them etc. and in general it will be a big deal, so its hard to compare that to bts as well. all in all, i can see similarities in both groups success in america. the fans are crazy about bts now, like they were about one direction when they had their break in america. both are very successfull and both seem to be very happy doing what they are doing now. :-) why waste your energy on arguing whos more successful when you could just support the group you prefer, or both! bts seem to appreciate niall/one direction and niall appreciates them. theres no hate between them, there shouldnt be any need for it between the fans.

The Queen Yep, if 1D went that route Zayne would have stayed. Instead they went more rock, which worked out really nicely for all of their voices. Not that BTS don't, cuz they definitely have incredible voices as well. Just way to different to really compare properly.

I have never been a fan of One Direction in the slightest, and i've loved BTS since debut. But the presenter was totally wrong here, I feel like he was purposefully trying to cause a fanwar. One Direction will always be legendary in their own right, and BTS will be too. There's absolutely no need to pit them against eachother, both work/worked extremely hard and both deserve credit for it. So dissapointed

(00000017589) theyve done a short arena tour in america. from my knowledge theyve toured a few dates in north and south america and then in asia. one direction has done two stadium tours in north and south america, asia, europe, australia and south africa. and they have 6 top 10 hits on billboard. one direction is bigger, way bigger. but like i said, bts has a real chance to be at the top as well, but its a long way to go to beat one direction. but they deserve the title of the biggest _active_ boy band/group :-) im a fan so im not hating, but based on what theyve done and achieved one direction is still bigger.

XxKrystal heartxX yes and no, yeah they have a long way to go, however they are at the same level of popularity is just that people think that being super famous in the west is everything when is not, they have stadium concerts all over Asia and now have arenas sold out in America (the continent) . 1D never did that, they couldn't enter to the Eastern market as successfully as BTS. I'm not saying they are better, is just that people take the importance of the other side of the world away. 😊

Same goes to toxic directioners need to see BTS is not even comparing itself to 1D level or any legendary western boy bands even tho they are just a Kpop boy band themselves. This was who are making history, breaking records left and right till date they are still humble and enjoy their era to shine. This was 3 years ago but now BTS has achieved more.

and while the beatles are legendary, id say they are a band, while one direction is a boyband, so theres no reason to whine about the beatles being bigger since people are only saying one direction is the biggest _boy_ band, which is correct lol

I’m not a big fan of kpop but I totally agree that BTS are incredible performers and artists. I just don’t understand the hate and battles between fanbases let people like what they like.. the artists love one another but the fandoms sometimes are toxic❤️
