I agree. That studio version sounds great, because it’s a great song, but I was really disappointed by how much the production ironed out all the distinctions in their voices.

Jin Butter- PTD is my BIAS!

You can clearly tell the distinction of their vocal styles here. I am highly impressed with rap line's vocals and enamored with the vocal line's. Jimin and Jungkook's vocal runs were amazing!!!!

Jungkook's vocals and adlibs are topnotch! I also replayed that part because he makes it look effortless but he really is a talented singer. They all sound great and I like the live better. It shows their beautiful unique voices. All 7 of them have unique voices in my opinion so you instantly know it's them!

This live version is so good...I love how raw JK sounded in some parts and the Harmonies with Jimmin...so good. The rap line sounds so good!

For other ARMY complaining about the song being westernized listen: This is only their 3rd full english? Whatcha on about fam?? We have 100+ in korean. Last year the BE album songs was in korean.. come on... Us ARMY are always proud that BTS is not just 1 genre.. we always say they are THE GENRE so they are constantly branching out and trying different sounds thats why we love them for not sticking to one sound. They're bringing more and more non fans to our BTS universe and they will be discovering the great complex hard hitting past songs, is'nt that a good thing? Im sure they will be going back to singing korean songs. This is a birthday gift to ARMY, its in english so all the different races of ARMY can sing fully to it.. plus incorporating ASL sign language. Come on ARMY fam its okay not to like it.. but lets not knock out BTS like that. Borahae 💜

I think this song sucks, especially by Ed Sheeran's standards. It sounds too poppy and Disney-like. That's okay though, because they have like a million other great songs for fans to enjoy.

Jungkook's live vocals are perfection! 🔥 Love his adlibs and runs! And his pronunciation is so clear, its crazy because you can't tell that he's not fluent in English

Jimin's voice sounds amazing live, it is so exquisite and unique is my favorite singer and it surprises me more and more.

I prefer this live version too, because I like hearing their voices with the natural tone and pronunciations.

I LOVE that they incorporated Int'l Sign Language into the choreography of the song. They really try to be so inclusive and I really appreciate that from them.

Loved hearing the different texture of their voices and their accent. It's always impressive how they can dance and have stable vocals. Their timing in phrases, one finishing and the next starting or when they overlap is amazing in live performance.

As the main vocalist, JungKook uses his sweet and rocky tone and superb skills to lead the mood of the whole song and bring the song to a lofty state.

Man! I love this song so much. I’ve listened to it 10+ times already and honestly can’t help but dance along.

I noticed that many reactors were more excited about Ed Sheeran as one of the songwriters for PTD rather than it was sang and performed by BTS. The same for other BTS songs when they collaborated with any Western artist. A few reactors didn't even react and comment on BTS singing, dancing or overall music video. They were excited that this is Ed Sheeran's style of songwriting/music and he would be good playing PTD on his guitar. Ed is a good musician, songwriter and producer but some credits need to be given to BTS on their overall performances and MV which make the song worked too. This song brings joy, happiness, positive vibes, inspiration and as a gift to ARMY and all listeners during this pandemic and special day for ARMY. Sorry for my rambling here.

Precisely bc the writter is Ed sheeran and the producers are british+american, PTD has so many pros and crons. Some people don't like it bc it looks like Ed sheeran's stlye not BTS stlye. In butter RM still participated to write the rap but PTD just doesn't seem like BTS i guess? When you worked with western producers who have worked with so many western artists, you wound up with a song that sounds just like any other western songs. The lyrics are nothing to compare to their korean or even japanese songs (you know what i'm saying, their korean songs have more deep into your soul + good lyricism compare to PTD) maybe that's why some fans are dissapointed. maybe if BTS could make an English song written by themselves then the song would be even better. Especially this is a song for ARMY.

@@nl8404 I enjoy the song and you can see different side of BTS. They don’t need to produce their music and sing their songs all time. Ed Sheehan used to write “Make it right” for BTS so this is not the first time. Also, BTS experienced a lot of types of music and they have different vibes. Not many people will like all their songs…so just thinking simply, this song is just another happy song of BTS. English song is hard to write because they don’t speak English fluently (except RM). This song showed their great vocals so not bad. It also showed BTS style that is happy and positive. Of course I know BTS had many great songs in Korean and Japanese, so just take it easy to wait for other songs from them. They usually have better B sides than main songs tho

@@nl8404 I think V's Sweet Night (a short song in English) for a Korean OST written by him is quite poetic and touching. "....we are ships in the night, passing each other"....English songs just don't have the deep and poetic feel to it unless it's written by an Eng Lit major, compared to say Chinese, Korean or Japanese songs. Any of these east asian songs translated to English would have lose the poetic essence not found in the English Language.

Thank you for this great reaction and analysis! Like I'd said in your last offering, I adore this live version of PTD - even more on repeat listening. I can discern their beautiful voices and expressiveness (despite it being in English) so much better than in the studio version. I really don't think production had any good reason to homogenize the vocals in the studio version. Most BTS songs have switched between all of the members throughout its history, and listeners have ever been happily along for the ride, appreciating their uniqueness and personalities shining through. Again, I'm looking forward to hearing PTD develop over their many stages in the coming weeks and so on. 💜

Been waiting for someone in the industry to comment on the dampening of their vocal differences in the music video version. I dislike it. But I wondered what the reasons might have been. I prefer this live version precisely because I could hear each of their vocal characteristics. More choreo here not withstanding. I’ve also been thinking about their accents and such given that they don’t really speak English although they understand passively I think (most language learning starts with passive before active anyway). Love your commentaries as always. This song is REALLY GROWING on me, because of its much needed sentiment 🦋 Thank you!

I like this version so much more. I'm not a huge fan of heavily produced vocals, especially when you have voices as good as these. I'm also LOVING the sign language. I can't wait to show the dance to my neighbor's daughter. 😃💜

I'm an Army and was annoyed at the over processing of their vocals.... I don't know why the producer did that.... live is so much better

You so right about the distraction thing, I read from two other music students they also said the same thing. They tuned the vocals yo give members kind off similar sound so the focus is more on the lyrics and the vibe cool!

I agree, the studio version production changed the timbre of their vocals a lot, like that one part of JK singing in the laundromat doing a twirl, if I didn't know any better I would think that part was Jimin. The first time I heard it I knew people are gonna complain about the autotune too, but it doesn't take away the fact that this is a feel good song which touched a million hearts of those who have listened to it and watched the MV. The flaws aside, I would still pick this as my favorite BTS english song, because of how it makes me feel whenever I listen to it. Isn't that the greatest purpose of music after all?

I get what you're saying about the blending of voices, but then they just sound like any other (western) boy band. This song grew in me like Film out

It's funny, because I've seen some other reactors saying they can definitely hear the Ed Sheeran influence. I guess I'm split. Parts of it reminds of some of his work, other parts not as much. But since there was multiple writers, such as Steve Mac (who did a lot of Westlife, if I'm not mistaken), which I can definitely hear too. I hear a lot of influences in this song, like the disco pop ABBA-vibe (would go well with the Mama Mia song list). I love that they keep challenging themselves and do all kinds of genres. I love that they still surprise us. I love that nothing is off limits for them. I love that they'll do whatever they want to do - otherwise it would end up like "Fake Love", right? And they understood what was needed in this world once again - we needed a feel-good, wholesome song that everyone could sing along to, like Pharrell's "Happy". PS. Ed Sheeran said in a recent interview that he often/(always?) runs his music by Elton John and values his music. And I can kind of hear some Elton John-like influence in the song, so I wouldn't wonder if he had heard it prior to the release.

Not related to the reaction Not to be that person but I don't think there's anything wrong with the vocal production honestly...I only noticed about the vocal production when people started talking about it saying its 'overproduced'??? I don't know man, we're being given a gift and when it comes people are just analysing it like it's some experiment, army, are u not going to enjoy wat u get for once,,, I'd say majority of the 'army' actually messed up the comeback more than 'antis'. Stop getting caught up in people's opinions. And of course if u didn't like it or think it's 'overproduced, generic , another English song' it's cool but keep ur opinions to urself and don't spread the negativity. And of course I totally enjoy this live version because it's the raw voices of the members but I don't think there's anything wrong with the studio version. I love how effortless Jungkook’s voice sounds as always. V is also stronger than ever. Rap line did beyond my expectation especially JHope and Suga’s part!!! ! I hate to say this but as much as I love Jin ( our WWH), I don’t like the sound of his voice in this song.. I don’t know how to put it but it sounds like he is squeezing it out from his throat.. very exhausting!!! this upbeat/ pop type of song is not for Jin or jimin.. jimin’s voice is too unique for this type of song! Having said that BTS wouldn’t be without a single one of them.. I wish fair distribution but not at the expense of the song!! Forgive me for being harsh and I am not saying this is the truth but it’s my truth! And honest to God, Jin is my second most beloved member! Again I am sorry but I must say this!

I love Jin’s personality and I find him funny and handsome. I also find him a good leader in the way he is taking care of the members.. I love some of his solo songs but I don’t like his voice in this type of song! It’s straining and it’s exhausting to hear it.. Do not twist my words and put words in my mouth. I meant it when I say I wish for fair distribution but not at the expense of the song nothing to do with V or JK!!! You can like a person and not like their voice.. it’s as simple as that. With respect to Jimin, he has the most beautiful voice but not for upbeat songs such as this.. It’s not to MY taste.. is all!!!

Also this is not called ‘tearing someone down’ it’s called giving opinions, sharing your likes and dislikes about certain people….. and I also don’t need to bring someone up either because they don’t need me to do that.. they are doing awesome on their own.. all of them for that matter! Unlike you I can voice out if I don’t like certain things even if it’s for my bias.. I don’t blindly like them and that doesn’t mean I don’t like them either! Wake up!!!!
