Learning another language varies from a person to another, and it takes a lot of time and dedication. For example, I learned English thanks to the TV show Glee and The Vampire Diaries. But, before watching these tv shows, I already had some basic knowledge of the grammatical rules, thanks to my middle school teacher. Also to your other note. I watch Thai and Korean shows and I can understand the language about 70% ... You watch with English subs right but really pay attention to the words they say cause a lot of them repeat. And then go back watch it with the native language subtitles to see if you understood what you heard and then can see it written down as well

About learning another lenguage for watching a show, I learned English kinda like RM. Watching friends, sex and the city, Glee and then reading fanfiction. A lot of people learn a bit of japanese from watching anime too. Your brain kinda just pick the words and learn how to put them in a sentence by the memory of all the English sentences it heard. Like, i don't know how to word a sentence correctly, but I can sense if it's right or wrong based in how SOUNDS
