Thanks for this. I remember when LY Tear came out and people didn't like the songs cuz they didn't have a "kpop sound." WTF IS THAT. That's why I hate it when people think that kpop is its own unique genre because it isn't when it's based off American pop music. Some songs were even originally written in English before being sold to Korean companies.

Yeah because it wasn't very "poppy". They tried mixing various genres together like emo hip hop with trap or electro-pop. Also BTS listen to a lot of Western artists and probably get inspired by thier songs. But I wouldn't say their latest albums were very "western", their old songs were more western in my opinion

The people I was specifically referring to in this comment were the ones who loved BST, an EDM song, and hated DNA, also an EDM song, by claiming the latter sounded "western" yet not the former. In contrast, BTS's older albums were arguably more westernized because they were heavily hip hop, while whatever "eastern" style you're referring to is closer to songs like IDOL with traditional Korean instruments or classic Asian instruments like the Yangqin and Guzheng.

Exo has put a lot of western elements in their recent comebacks too and no one says anything AGAIN. I'm not gonna start with Ikon, Winner or Nct. So, why the hell is only Bts on the spotlight about this topic?? And don't come up with excuses like 'oh but that's yg style' or ' nct was made to have that kind of concept' cuz BigHit and Bts aren't any different either. Actually Bts used to be wilder , more hip hop and westernized in music before. Only cuz they are super famous internationaly and are the only korean group reaching that high in international music industry doesn't mean that they have become westernized. Tbh Bts seemes to be the only super popular group of the 3rd generation in kpop that uses traditional Korean elements in songs and performances while the others run after the American style. People say that BTS is westernised because of DNA. Listen DNA was one song in the style Future bass and EDM. They have never make EDM before. My day was boring but after seeing BTS on Twitter, watching a compilation of their funny videos, listening thousands of their songs, dancing on Monster by Exo, singing on Oh My by Seventeen, re-watching Bon Voyage s1, watching this video and finally reading your comment, I feel like it is the best day of my life until the day I meet BTS. I knew I subscribed to this channel for a reason, giving out BIG FACTS. People who call them "Westernized" don't even have a clue what it means and that it goes for ALL groups. They use it as an insult bc BTS is taking America by storm right now, collecting new fans, winning awards, and are on American & British talk shows. BTS ofc would change up their sound over the last 5 years and I agree the fact that their music is so versatile makes it so you can find any song by them to fit your current mood and vibe. people only use that "bts became westernized" because they don't want to seem jealous that bts is breaking out globally and their faves are still in korea. nothing wrong with those groups staying in their home country but a lot of them said they want to lead the hallyu wave and spread korean culture throughout the world but their fan's pride is what's keeping them from branching out.

People don't seem to realize they are breaking out in America because they sound the most Americanized. It's no coincidence that the group that panders the most to American style and American ears has the most American fans, it has nothing to do with "talent".

Antis only say this about BTS because they try their best to bring down BTS any chance they get. I even seen some kpop stans calling them white. Telling them their kissing white people's asses now. It's funny how they call BTS westernize but ever since their success in the US. Big 3 companies (especially yg and sm) have been trying to promote and even try to copy bighit to get their groups popular in the US. Even YG himself has mentioned that. He's literally been following BTS next move since their success. Even shaded them when he was promoting Blackpink multiple times. SM tried to do the same for NCT and even EXO now. Even SM YG and even JYP are releasing english versions of their groups songs. But here's the thing though. BTS didn't have a plan really when they became big in the US. Even when no more dream came out they weren't even thinking of doing any promo in the US yet that song ended up on the charts because of their TALENT. When Blood sweat and tears dropped no one new it would be as big as it was in korea and in the us. Then DNA dropped and it REALLY blew up. BTS growth and success was ORGANIC. They blew up based on their talent. (Also they've never released a full english song because they said they didn't need to to make in the US. They were even pressured by people in America to write a full English album and bts said no. They stuck to who they were and it payed off. That's something big 3 companies need to understand. You can't copy BTS. You could try but you won't succeed because BTS is their own group. ps: i have nothing against blackpink exo or nct. just their shit companies. ps ps: also waste it on me doesn't count as a bts english song because its not their song it's steve akois song so yes bts has never made a full english song. even the mic drop remix with designer wasn't fully english.

it was really interesting whatching this video because exactly last week i did a 40 mitutes presentation in my school about the development of korean music so it was fun to watch the video and remember thing i've just learned about and also learn new things.

You should title this just plainly bts got westernized so ppl who agree with that click thinking it will fuel their ego instead they get proven wrong the perfect clickbait

But still Kpop is becoming more popular than american pop. People are getting tired of the same kind of songs that's why it is so successful since 2017.

i think since kpop groups tend to comeback frequently and change concepts, it keeps fans interested and well fed. Not only that, but there are many many opportunities to meet them and to feel closer to the idols such as vlive.
