I don't think you understand the implications of using a word like "militaristic" when talking about a BTS show. The idea of Asians being rigid, exacting, almost robotic ie militaristic is harmful. I see no less staging, showmanship or perfection in Beyonce or Michael Jackson shows yet no one would ever say militaristic about their styling and performances and Michael was known to be terribly particular. I think if you're going to discuss POC, Asians you are going to have to understand your own unconscious stereotypes (which most of us have) and evaluate them before saying things that can be hurtful and harmful.

Thanks for pointing that out. I find it weird that western artists are praised for their professionalism and perfectionism, while asian artist are often called manufactured, robotic or militaristic just for putting a similar amount of perfectionism in the show.

Yes, this is the opening of the show! they have other more toned down performances the rest of the show tho hahaha. They would pass out half way through if they did this the entire show. especially, coming towards the end of the 3 hour show, they just come out in jeans/sweatshirts/tshirts and casual attire. Emotions are still shown throughout the show in various ways :)

I love how you can appreciate their skill as performers and the talent they have on stage but thank you also for pointing out that lyrically this song is more than just a party anthem. Here they are expressing the passion for the artistry of making music and how that in itself is like getting drunk. BTS's music isn't always 1 sided, they often have music that covers different tones it only matters how deep with them someone is willing to go. And I think BTS get a lot of criticism by small minded people who only want to see them as a surface pretty boy group. BTS are the real deal and deserves more recognition for the artists they are.

That’s a good point about people being small minded and wanting them to be surface level like most kpop groups because that’s what the listeners are used to if you think about it. I actually saw somebody on Twitter say “I like my kpop really dumb and basic, I don’t want to have to think.” like huh?! So weird🤦🏾‍♀️

@@jerseygirl6221 I think in the same vein , nothing is wrong with liking fun, “dumb” or “basic” music because it’s something of its own and can help you appreciate when people do make music with deep, meaningful messages; not that it necessarily makes it better/worse.

In Greek mythology, Dionysus is (amongst other things), the god of the grape-harvest & winemaking; ritual madness, religious ecstasy, festivity, and theatre. A Thyrsus is the staff that Dionysus carries (which RM carries starting off the song). In this song Dionysus and getting drunk etc are metaphorical to BTS and their creation process.

I think that their detailed oriented and perfected shows convey their passion for their work. The way in which they strive to show the best version of themselves by putting thought into their dance, stage concept, singing and crowd interaction is just so telling of their love for performing and music. It's really rare to see people put so much effort in. I mean, they don't even have to do this anymore since they've been doing this for the past ten yrs. With their level of popularity, people would pay to watch them sing and sit in a chair.

  • @cstrouts

This song is deeper than you think. In Korean, the words for alcohol and art sound very similar to reach other. Dionysus is the god of wine, ecstasy, and the arts. BTS is saying that they get drunk on the ecstasy of artistic creation. They also get drunk on alcohol of course - watch "Drunk BTS is the best BTS" for the laughs. And a "thyrsus" is the staff of Dionysus, like RM was holding in his hand at the beginning of the song.

  • @abbiem7773
    @abbiem77732 жыл бұрын

Actually, it's sort of a shame you missed the the fact that this song is so much more then 'getting drunk' if you knew BTS better their songs always have way deeper meaning. it's called a play on words or double or even more meaning since in Korean words can have different meanings, or with a bit different pronounciation, the word for alcohol is similar to for art. So it's actually meaning getting drunk on art or creating,. Aside from that, also, Dionysus, was so much more then the harvester of grapes vegetation, & creator of wine! Haha!! Because Dionysus was the only Olympian with a mortal mother, because he was raised on the mythical Mount Nysa (which was believed to be either far to the south or the east), and because he wandered Asia before arriving in Greece, Dionysus was seen as an outsider. This was an inherent part of his cult, which often focused on the more subversive elements of his nature. Dionysus was often called Eleutherios, meaning “the liberator,” because his wine, music, and ecstatic dance freed his followers from self-consciousness and the restraints of society. Indeed, as the “twice-born” god, Dionysus had crossed the boundary between life and death, and he was often portrayed as the god who crossed the boundary between the civilized and uncivilized and the known and unknown. He was represented as a god of chaos and the protector of misfits.

As many have pointed out, Dionysus is not just the god of wine. Among his other things he oversees, it specifically strikes me that under an alternate name, Eleutherios, his followers dance free and subvert the oppression of the powerful. Even if not intentional, that is so very BTS. (Description partly taken from wiki as they described it better than my rambly words) I

Their training was brutal. Sometimes dancing in gas masks or running in place for 5 minutes before starting to sing. They even had to match eye movements while performing. Everything was filmed and critically reviewed during rehearsals. It was beyond even the 'normal' Kpop rigorous training. Don't think any American group would even think to attempt this kind of bootcamp training. It would even be considered abuse of minors in Am. culture but the results are undeniable. Their breath control and stamina are amazing.

At the 2019 MMA performance, Dionysus is much more elaborate performed at the end of an epic 37 minute performance at what is an awards show (that they swept, by the way). Thoughout this 37 minutes they perform as a group and singly, showing their impressive individual talents. Watch this, and I hope you can also present it as a reaction. The performance is beyond complex. It is among the best that I have ever seen from any solo or group of artists, and I love all genres, including opera. Basically you need to see a concert . You can see the all the different types of performance in a BTS show- dramatised performances but also just partying with the crowd, intimate solo stages etc. They live for a concert and you can feel that as an audience. They are truly present and have a lot of fun and their quirky characters shine brightly when they run around on stage and do shenanigans. The opening number here has to sit like a T obv but the storyline throughout the concert is amazingly crafted. 👍 Hope to see more

There’s a very clear difference in his strength of projecting his voice in such a smooth way that your never know he was moving… you can hear the others hittting their parts but def not as loud for the most part… but they sound great regardless … rappers so powerful… but I hate that this video is really doing a terrible job at showing the insane artistry of this staging. Almost the whole song here is in close ups instead of the wider shot to show the whole point. Also bts doesn’t just ave one sound or style of song lol they tackle any and all genres you could imagine. This is a terrible performance for vocals lol and the way it’s shot makes it feel more chaotic than it really is

Damn the MMA 2019 Dionysus stage is better than this one imo…. But anything they do is always another level… I’m so happy for them finally getting seen as they should be People would be shocked at the storytelling elements to their concerts… it happens with every single thing they do !

Jungkook king of acapella by Ida s kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWtssKeempbHmsY.html Lots of raw vocals… some with mic and some without… some bts songs and some English songs so you really get a better understanding of his versatility…. His vocal stability kinda works against him in bts music…. They’re all so good though.. just personal preference for me is all Stay gold live by bts… If you cover by jungkook on masked singer .. make sure it’s the full 4 min performance

You're a vocal coach who doesn't know what a thyrsus is🤔... Where were you taught musical theory? It's very well documented the connection between theatre, art, music and drinking in Ancient Greece, especially in the Dyonisiacs, a pan-hellenic festival where you could show your artistry and ability to move people.

Just watch your reaction ! At one moment you say BTS performance has impact because they are the only group at the moment who is able to sing and dance so intensively at the same time .... it's extremely false and misleading. In Korea particulary and in Asia in general they are a lot of groups who can dance and sing at a mastered level but BTS is the most famous for a lot of reason : they do most of the songs productions and writting lyrics and melodies, their lyrics are a lot more deep than what you seem to imagine (Dionysus is not about being drunk literaly .... but about being drunk on art) and they are often inspired by books on psychology, their rapline who is one of the best in the kpop industrie, their vocal range, their dance performance, their stage presence who is top notch (a lot of groups tried to cover their songs but honestly few have approached their level, on the other side all songs BTS covers is almost becoming theirs), their stamina on stage, the causes they advocate, ..... and the list goes on. I think you will need to watch and listen to other songs to comprehend the phenomen that is BTS in the music world !!

No me gustó su come ntario. Excesivamente plagado de limitaciones. Un desconocimiento sobre la letra, la intención del tema y prejuiciosa sobre un grupo que ha roto estereotipos y ha luchado contra las ideas militaristas... Una desilusión.

The year was 2019 (date is the 6 digit number at the end of the title). Helpful tip: a lot of the times dates are written like that. 19 (2019) 10 (October) 27 (27th) Sometimes the year will be all 4 digits, so then it would be 8 total

This is only one song out of their two and a half hour/ three hour concert and in some songs they do more choreography and in other songs they dont need to dance and just move however they like and they have a lot of different types of songs from rock to hiphop to pop which makes sense since they have 7 members and each member write and produces songs (mainly the rappers) so obviously each song have different styles and every each member have solo songs. I think a good concert to watch is kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIdkl7ahgs26hMY.html. And BTS “film out” live song: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKqWpretorq5pJM.html which showcase their vocals.
