It's pitchfork, they're known for being respectful and interested in the artistic process. The agency is ran by actual music lovers not entertainment workers, they let the artist talk about their art

Anyone can really tell how much bts wanted to succeed back in 2014, they performed their asses off and tried to show the most versatile sides of themselves, but even then, they had to battle the disadvantages and biases in their own country.

This is so true for so many people in the world, especially people living in poverty who are struggling to live. Idk man, it just really hurts to know that this is true. I know this interview is about BTS and their music, but please just let me remind you to be kind to people and to yourself. You can still feel angry, sad, and all sorts of negative emotions, but please, just don't hurt yourself and don't hurt others.

my heart was broken when I saw that, to even think of how much struggles they endured besides the ones we know of hurts me sm, but it’s always a nice thought to see how they overcame all of those hardships and are just as wonderful and humble as before

I just love how well spoken Jimin and Jhope are when they talk about their music. I could listen to them all day. Thank you for this amazing interview, Pitchfork.

I’ve noticed Jimin’s speeches always. He is very well spoken.

Finally, an interview in the English language press that really takes a serious look at the music of this group. This is the core of why many fans admire the group - not their looks, not the business practices of their company, and perhaps not even the spectacular music videos and live performances. These insights are long overdue, and it's a pity that it has taken this amount of time for English language coverage of BTS to arrive at content that does justice to the substance of the band.

He talked a bit about it in the Burn the Soul documentary where they kept saying among themselves that they were working so hard, why weren't they achieving the great lengths they thought they'd get thinking "we've been doing this for 1, 2 years, why aren't we there yet" but slowly their mentality changed to "it's only been 3, 4, 5, years...there's so much more time ahead to show what we've got" and I think that shift really put them in the right mindset where they were able to push through and keep doing what they love

I'm glad he was able to leave that mindset behind and refocus, it shows his maturity and professionalism.

your comment made me cry, i felt everything you said. this is why their art needs to be appreciated and brought to the light more and not just dismissed as some cringy music, especially when the general public doesn't really know their discography and everything that goes into it. they changed and helped me better my life through their music and continue to do so, for me and many others. just listening to bts in the background makes me want to do something good for myself, no matter what song is playing. at least, that's what i heard

The crazy thing is the fact that they're only scratching the surface in this video. BTS' discography is seriously no joke. The EPs weren't really talked about, neither were the social issues happening in and around the songs, the progressive growth and reflection of youth, the BU, religious and mythological homages, the Jungian Theory, etc. All this meticulous consideration just goes to show how serious BTS are about their craft and frankly, I've never seen any other artist put in as much effort as they have

It's absolutely hilarious and sad. I watched in a show with EXO where they talked about their experience being on Ellen and Kai literally said that he was unimpressed and the questions were boring. No wonder there aren't that many funny scenes in western interviews. A lot of the questions are non-specific to the band & shows that they haven't done their research. The first few time with collaborations, who's your fav artists, food, etc. ok fine wtv, but after the MILLIONTH time like GOD what a waste of time for our boys. Kudos to Pitchfork for actually revealing their insight, personality, and actually new info us ARMYs don't know about. Thank you for respecting them as artists

This might be the best interview I've seen with them yet. Letting them speak in-depth about their MUSIC? No "Who do you want to collaborate with?" No "What's your favorite English word?" SHOCKING! Everyone looked so comfortable, they all got a chance to speak-it's not something that happens every day with Western media and we need more of it. Thank you, Pitchfork!

But whether BTS knows it or not they are a beacon of hope for people who have worked hard and fallen short. I’m glad they are being so open about these kinds of things now; it indirectly instills more hope and encouragement in me for my future.

Over 7 years. I've witnessed this, and he's been consistent with his praises for 7 years. And compliments are accurate Rm: best leader Jin: best looking person every feature is perfect Suga: best rapper Hobi: best dancer Jimin: best performer (plus endless compliments these two.. Their 2018 Grammy Museum interview was also as good I think. The two times they’ve actually been asked about their music and no weird questions like which US singer inspires them and they get to speak in korean so all of them can answer fully

Yes the questions aren't always asked properly but you saying that they should let them speak Korean all the time is kinda wrong cause yes it's good they have got to that level of comfort but at the same time they have to build on there English skills that's the only way they can be better they speak Korean among themselves all day so when they go out of the country its good they challenge themselves but putting in the effort to be more fluent in English

This interview was about the full studio albums. All the other ones were considered “mini albums”

when Jungkook said "We were all so sleepy that we used to sneak into the bathroom to take naps (4.00) " it was so sad to heard that. They were just kids back then. I felt so bad when he said that.

I must say I’m surprised considering Pitchfork has done some negative articles on BTS, but this is exactly the kind of interview that ARMY want to see and that GP need to be exposed to. I am glad that Bangtan didn’t feel as pressured to speak English here, because of course speaking in their native language is going to be more comfortable. RM also didn’t have to bare the burden of translating everything, which was very nice to see. This only covered the full length albums but in addition to those they have several EPs that are connected and tell stories, I would love to hear their reflections on those works too.

The best BTS interview so far. Our gems talking about their albums and reminiscing is pure bliss. Other interviewers need to understand that ARMYs are not interested in invading their personal lives or anything which discomforts them. Ok, but Taehyung giving a shout out to “Moving On”, one of my all time favorite BTS tracks, at the very end makes my little veteran ARMY heart jump for joy 😭 Like I know the guys are aware of and remember all the music they’ve ever released, but to hear them reminisce and talk about their older music so fondly now that they’re so big and famous just hits different! On that note, Moving On is SUCH an underrated and touching track and more people need to listen to it tbh ❤️

This is the best BTS interview I've ever seen. Remember they're music artists and not tourists to ask what is their favourite food or where they want to go. Of course those things can be asked but asking it constantly will make both BTS and the audience boring. I hope more people will check out their discography without any prejudice. Best interview so far. Yeah, let them speak about their music and craft. Not those nonsense, repetitive questions of what they want to eat, celeb crush whatsoever. See how deep and serious their answers are about their songs. It’s the first time i learned that they have different album covers that has meanings when connected like that smoke on wings album. These are the trivias we want to know. YG always amazes me with the way he speaks and his insights. That “effort does not always guarantee success” hit me hard. These boys are not just an idol group who sings and dance and wears fancy or just all visuals. They are serious artists, who creats “art and masterpiece” in their own way while inspiring people. Way too go BTS! Keep slayin’, LEGENDS!

This is what they deserve to be asked and what we deserve to hear, about their discography! BTS' discography is not a joke. People doesn't want to admit it because they are threatened by the BillboardHot100 #1 Artist. And can those interviewers stop asking them questions like, which of the members are dating? what is your favourite american food? which western artist do you wanna collab with next? What is your favourite english word? Will you ever release an English album? :| See how much they have to say about their discography. Look at their album art! I haven't seen an artist like bts. A lot of people are missing out something amazing just because of their prejudice. I deeply feel bad for those people. *BTS is a lot more than what you can even think or imagine. They will be the first and the last group I will stan. I am so proud of them. They never disappoint me.* The fact that they remember every process of their 6 years old album even now, truly legends! *Thank you for everything BTS!*

Right? Whatever you like to listen to, they've got something for you. A lot of musical groups pick up a certain identifying 'sound', so that as soon as you hear it, you go, 'Oh, that's (group!)' I like to say that BTS doesn't have 'a' sound, they have ALL the sounds. Their versatility and creativity are so amazing.

Min Yoongi is such an intellectual. His passion for music really shines through in this interview. His brilliance is so underrated! Hobi is underrated too! His positive energy radiates every time. And you can tell that he genuinely loves and appreciates ARMY. They all do of course, but Hobi just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Jimin's eloquence is sooo underrated. He has such a way of explaining the heart of the matter in a beautiful manner ♥️♥️ Also this was such a wholesome interview. The boys just reminiscing ♥️ Loved every single minute of it ♥️♥️

i like how namjoons accent when hes speaking english here is a little bit thicker than in for example american talk shows since 95% of the interview is in korean and as a multilingual i relate tbh, when i speak my language and then "dip" to say something in english im never sure whether to say it with a strong accent (because that sounds better to people who speak the first language) or go full out lol

Well its not until recently that America began to take them seriously and have interviews like this that ask them more about the musical process and less about "who is your favorite American celeb?" or "whats your favorite American food?". Out of all of their interviews in america or by Americans there's only a few where you'll notice they actually enjoy themselves because they're not asked childish questions. Took a long time to get to this point but we're finally here 😂😂😂

ikr! this interview was great. it was all focused on their music! and they got to tell about personal things to the group as well. all the interviews with the same basic questions just get tiring. so, i don’t watch them often. but hearing them get to speak about their music the whole time was really refreshing. they are musicians and should be treated as such when traveling overseas as well.

This has to be one of the best interviews BTS has done in Western media. Their discography is so packed that I can listen to them talk abt it for hours. I hope more people see this and explore BTS music. It's not just any boy band. Their lyrics r very deep and meaningful and yet so much fun. when yoongi talks about his music he's like 100 times more happy and interested. I love seeing him like that, it's admiring how he doesn't fake his emotions.

This was such a great interview! You know the questions are interesting when Yoongi talks a lot.

BTS's lyricism is one of the main reasons I am so passionate about them. They manage to capture emotions with words like no other. I also feel like since they sing and rap in Korean I have to think more about the meaning and message as I go through translations! Thank you for this breakdown 😊💜

If you give BTS a chance and listen to their music without prejudice & read the lyrics, you'll discover a lot of good music too. Their lyrics are amazing and so relatable.

This is one of my favorite interviews to date. BTS are first and foremost artists so as a fan of their music, I love hearing about their thought process when it comes to making their albums. I could have easily watched an hour of them talking about their favorite tracks and insider stories. Thank you for this!

I know right, a lot of songs these days have really shallow or terrible messages. A lot of people who hate on BTS and say their songs are trash listen to songs that are the equivalent of burnt trash in terms of lyrics. On an unrelated note, some of my friends who like a western pop band were showing our music class a song that had some pretty inappropriate lyrics, and they had no idea (because it was subtle instead of explicit), even though it’s in their first language. We ARMYs sure are lucky that, even though we may not understand what they are saying at first listen without reading subs, we can be reassured that BTS are saying something insightful, deep, or meaningful.

After these 20 minutes, I once more learned that becoming an ARMY has been my best decision so far. I will never ever shut up about how much I love Bangtan and their music. I get so emotional and moved when I watch this type of interviews, just love when the boys talk about their music, all they've come through to get where they're now. I'm never going to get over Yoongi saying that the lyrics were written with BTS' potential disbandment in mind... Like that left a crack in my heart, I thought it was just some non-specific break up song with pretty lyrics and got completely blindsided

And knowing the fact that the songs made for member itself...its like their goodbye song when the time have come..makes me cry everytime i hear tear

"It was the first time I realized that effort doesn't guarantee success" hurts although it is a reality :( But now they will not be ignored anymore because now they have a big fandom that supports their music and that fandom continues to grow. Also, Dark and Wild was one of bts best era but so underrated :/ was a masterpiece! Maybe we can give it the recognition it deserves now.

I hope you know yoongi’s statement is true in every area of life and that is what he learned.

The best english interview so far! Their words really sounds expensive. Thank you BTS for existing and for making good musics.

Glad that RM wasn't busy translating. Also this is the kind of interview that artists should go through .

Them recounting how they cried a lot during the love yourself:tear era reminds me of RM's album review live stream where he was on the brink of tears while listening to tear and Jin's speech at MAMA awards where he shared about how he and the other members were thinking of disbanding due to the mental fatigue and stress and pressure(it was also the time right after BTS blew up in the U.S.) but they somehow pulled through and released love yourself:tear....man I'm so happy for them they pulled through and found some sort of mental peace.

I'm seriously so proud of them. They were able to get through such difficult situation mentally and it inspires me so much. I hope they realise how much they've changed the lives of most of their fans(me being one of those fans) for better

Also the fact that Outro:Tear was about the members the lyrics were towards the members, I actually cried after knowing that

I wish they included their EPs in this too man, even though they mentioned some songs at the end i would love to know more about them. hyyh albums were a cultural reset on its own, the love yourself series album covers connected makes such a pretty image of showing the flower and how it detangles and reforms into a heart, skool luv affair was a such a great debut album with so many rememberable songs and O!RUL8,2? album is such a underappreciated one out of all of them
