BT Tower Heaton Park, Manchester Urbex

The Heaton Park BT Tower is a 238-foot tall concrete telecommunications tower located next to Heaton Park Reservoir in Manchester, England. Heaton Park BT Tower is one of the few British towers built of reinforced concrete, and one of seven BT towers of the 'Chilterns' design
(Disclaimer)
This Site is also not Abandoned and still used to house transmitters mast's for 3 mobile and EE And Site Like This Emmit High EMF non ionising radiation and can be very dangerous to you if you don't know what you're doing !
During the Cold War, the British government proposed a communications network that (it was hoped) would survive a nuclear attack. Radio stations (including the Heaton Park Tower) would maintain national and international communications before, during and after a nuclear emergency, transmitting microwave radio signals in a network known as Backbone. Spurs feeding into the network were provided at three locations: London, Manchester (Heaton Park Tower) and Birmingham Whether or not the Backbone network plan was realized is classified, but HM Government denied in Parliament that the tower's function was secretive
Beside the tower was a monitoring station (one of hundreds across the country) to record the blast and fallout in the event of a nuclear war. The station provided for three men from the Royal Observer Corps (ROC) to live underground whilst recording what was happening above ground in the event of a nuclear strike.

Cool explore, I used to go past a BT tower regularly years ago, similar in design, near Bosley crossroads. Always wondered what they were like inside.👍

Nice to see you up in my neck of the woods, the wind farm up on the big hill ( knowl hill ) is not far from where I live, Google Healey Dell nature reserve, there are some interesting explores, the ammunitions factory, the asbestos factory, the railway viaduct , air raid shelters, lookout gunposts , all close to each other, and there is some great wildlife, I hope you'll check it all out next time you're in the area, I'll gladly be your guide, loving the tunes, thanks for letting me enjoy these mad missions ,

It's weird to imagine these towers are still in use, but even though they are fancy to see inside, still it's basic, lol.

Did some digging and that tower looked epic back in the day when it still had the old microwave horns on top! Kinda like the old AT&T "Long Lines" setup they had over here in the states only way cooler looking. Can't believe all the long distance calls for like an entire city used to get beamed through those things before they'd get routed through those big copper trunks to people's phones. >.

It was bombproof, that’s why the door so epic. It was made during the Cold War so it was Made to deal with a nuclear explosion. There’s a load of them they links London to Edinburgh. I think they were called chain-link.

The pile of round things on the floor are microwave antennas. Used for high bandwidth comms links between towers and other tall buildings. Was the way to flip phone and data traffic quickly around the country from tower to tower until emerging at the "last mile" exchange. All done with IP these days

It won't be digital, I used a similar CCTV camera back in the same era, for scanning images, the digitising happened on a seperate computer. The camera output was like an analogue composite video or RGB?
