This is like a real *practical* lesson on understanding the 24 shrutis that are spoken of in Indian music. Normally people are aware of the regular 12 notes...but in exemplifying the various embellishments employed in rendering the ragas the ever so slight differences in notes get touched upon...which notes *would not* be touched upon in some other raga. The other thing I felt was, we usually so easily dismiss a brilliant skill by simply giving it this umbrella-term of "talent". But what tremendous practice goes into mastering every little detail of what is presented! Hats off...(in the context of developing muscle-memory). BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT.

Sir I am little confused on practicing to increase speed. If I can play clearly at 240BPM but not at 260BPM, then shall I practice at 240BPM or 260BPM.

@@ashwinflute I really like to attend your show. When Pt. Pravin Godkhindi was here, I attended his show 2 times in 2 different cities. Great show. I also bought couple flutes from him. So when you come, bring few bansuris. People will buy them. Thanks.

Very interesting- it is the first time I have heard of touching notes, even in passing that do not belong in the Raga. In my meager understanding and humble opinion that approach still compromises the depth of the Raga for the convenience of fast taans.

This is how it has to be done. That is how vocal music is sung. Hence the approach. The Raaga and Indian Classical Music itself, isn’t just about notes and scales. It is all in the ‘between two notes’ where the actual magic lies. In fact, NOT playing those ‘kan swaras’ in reality, compromises the whole essence of Indian Music. :):)
