its crazy to listen to the music from then compared to the crap nowadays...the stuff we were listening to back then sounds light yrs ahead of the music today why is that? all genres today are weak asf theres no feeling...i dont get goosebumps like i used too i miss those days.
Backpacked around Asia and Australia in 1995-96 and took a pile of cassettes with me. The BT essential mix being one of them, I'm sure the Goa Mix (Oaky) was another. I recorded both off the radio and I’m sure I still have them in the memories box in the loft. I'm 3minutes in and already I can feel the cold hard floor of Bangkok airport. I had headphones permanently attached to my head and the Sony Walkman hungrily eating its way through batteries. Mike is correct, the 90s were a great decade for Dance music. Suddenly technology and home computers were becoming cheap and all these creative guys in their bedrooms were making the music they wanted to hear and then turning this into a career. Thank you for the memory trip

+Dominic Emery Wow, I couldn't have put it any better if I wanted. Now all producers / DJs do is put out garbage - commercial crap and try to make money. Sad to see the almighty dollar ruining SO much creativity.

Had this when it first came out, recorded it on the off-chance. Ended up pretty much wearing the tape out; refused to let anyone else borrow it (just in case..), its still in the back of the box - somewhere. Transeau was years ahead of his time, he doesn't write 'songs', he creates soundscapes and sonic journeys; a modern Mozart, and this is one of his greatest moments.

I daren't let anyone else have my tapes either. Sounds very like a Murray Gold Doctor Who soundtrack at the start, doesn't it? 🛸🚀
22 years on and it still sounds a quantum leap ahead of the shit that is out now. BT = Genius.
OMG, I remember recording this from the radio all those years ago on cassette. Played it in my car for weeks! I can't believe it's on here - Nanita by the B-tribe - I searched for that on vinyl for years after hearing it for the first time on here.
Good to see it's not just me thinking it's something a bit special - cheers!
Loving you more is an absolute classic track !!!
i was inhigh skool 3rd year in 1995 i past my music teacher a tape of it 2 days before my birthday on the 26th . we had it blasting all week in school he loved it i had an essential mix party in the class room oi oi ! what a time to be alive oi oi !
Memory unlocked omfg I'm a millennial & I remember first hearing this on tape from my neighbor's music collection & fell in love!!! I was 9
Ace, was way ahead of his time with this. I remember he spent all his time in the studio...and hangin' with the crew. He did his own thing in DC, while most were feeding off one frenzy or another (house, DnB, Trance) and he continues to push boundaries. There aren't CD jackets with the fine print of names anymore. But Brian's all over decades of LA studio work many times uncredited.
28 years later, still sounds modern.
Nice one, remember this like it was yesterday. Saw B.T. play back to back with Sasha at UK Midlands back in the day. Good times.

I was there mate...what a facing night that was. DIgweed warmed up, BT live with Costello and then Sasha for 3 hours. Amazing.
I've never heard this until now. This has aged beautifully. If someone never told me i would've assumed these tracks came out today. Amazing stuff!
Guys a genius followed his sound for years, taped this when it was first broadcast and had it in my sony walkman for a long time :)
Always loved BT, saw him do an amazing set at 'Heaven' London when he launched 'Movement in still life' album over here. He was so hyped up by the end he picked up and smashed down his keyboard!

SO happy when I found this - takes me back to being a student. Like you Jason (2nd comment) I recorded this mix onto a tape but it got lost in one of a few house moves. It's a classic! Thanks for putting this up here dude.

Максим Николаев yes there was! Trance was very pyschadelic back then, techno in 95 was nothing like trance.

BT is not a Techno god at all. He's a pioneer of Trance and general EDM.
@rossduckering7048

I disagree, with the trance and EDM bit, I mean nobody called this music trance then. It was progressive house and he was known for pioneering epic house, plus the term EDM didn’t even exist for many years after this. I agree he is not a techno god though. Leave that for the likes of Garnier, DJ Hell, SLAM, and anyone from Detrioit ect ect
@JasonSmith-mf7xg

@@rossduckering7048 In ATL we called this trancy house but it wasn't a real term or genra. Real trance by the late 90s was more simple like techno and less House. This style of music still exists and simply pulls from all the electric genres but it is almost impossible to define and is always moving.. It was called deep house (No) and now melodic house (nope) but this is cutting edge electronic underground dance music. Its puling from all directions and forever changing. DJ's who play cutting edge underground dance music do not sound like this anymore. This is their history though. This is part of their evolution and maybe the largest "first branch" of this undefinable sounds family tree.

@@Tacsmoker I used 120 minute tapes for the Essential Mix's, have still got the BT one as broadcast. First hour ends with Rhinocerous by Smashing Pumpkins.. wonder if that part been pulled due to copyright..
funny thing was BT was never was a DJ. This set was purely programmed. Awesome but digitally programmed.
@tonysottile11
9 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you've never been to one of his live shows? He programmed this set the way he's programmed all of his music - with a keyboard and other live instruments, played to a tune of his creation and then synthesized to get the sound that EDM fans love. Not saying that none of this is sampled, but the majority of what he does is his own. Listen to Ima, then listen to Sasha's Journey through Ima and you'll gain a greater appreciation for both artists.

+Chris Nova777 Hey now, not ALL of us American electronic fans are retarded, just basically most of the youth and people who started listening in the last 5 years. The true fans know EDM and Electronic music are two different entities - the first being the garbage that people with no taste listen to, the latter being the REAL music

+Dean Montano You can tell part of it was live because he trainwrecks. He's a damn good programmer, so if it were 100% programmed, I doubt you'd get that. He has DJ'd other sets... he's not a good DJ.

bad English! Sorry! BT ahead of his game though. It's all a bit like Traktor and Serrato now!
