Good review. I currently have the BSP D8 controller, and it fits my 10" tablet nicely. Wish they come up with the D10 soon that's as compact as the D8, but has the expansion size of the D9. The D8 tops out at 252mm while the D9 can do 280mm, which can fit up to 12" tablets.

It’s a great controller for the price I mostly use mine for Call of Duty mobile and a bit of PS5 and Xbox remote play on IPhone , iPad and Android tablet only complaint is the battery. It charges quite quickly but only lasts around 6-8 hours

When you switch to another Tablet just turn off Bluetooth on the Previous Tablet to avoid it from connecting to it plus when you do that it will make it easier to pair to a new Tablet or Smartphone

Wish you would have showed this controller using PS remote play but looks promising for sure.

I have a Legion Y700 too (2023 Version)! My D9 arrived today. They are such a great combo, they feel great together, it's like an entire game console on its own with how good the Y700 is. Trouble is I am new to all of this so idk any of the apps I need for mapping buttons and playing games etc. I tried playing Genshin with it and it only half-worked, I need to set it up but idk how😩 Besides, simply putting the two together feels great, it's perfect imo. Can't wait to get it working.

@@Pekkushio I swear I replied but I don't see my comment?! Either way, I got it working and it's great! Only cost me £33, bargain for what it is! (Bought on AliExpress btw, I can send you the link if you want it, it's the cheapest I could find it). It's a pain at first but once you get the hang of Shooting Plus V3, it works fine. Then again, I've only used Genshin so far, I wonder how it handles other games and emulators. It gets a bad score on the PlayStore of 2.7 stars, but I think the mapping works fine imo. Having said that, I've only scratched the surface. All in all so far though, it's great. Only downside is the size of the controller grips, they're too small for my hands and feel uncomfortable/awkward to hold. Hopefully some grips come out given some time.

Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated. I've invested in an Elgato Wave 3 mic now and so it's good to hear that the audio is more satisfying for the viewers, I'm constantly trying to improve on my little recording setup! As for Fold 4 controllers, I think ky fave has to be the Elo Vagabond, but that's not out yet, so from the available controllers I'd say Leadjoy M1C+ if using with a case, and without case it'd have to be the Gamesir G8 Galileo. I hope this helps!

@@TKsTechCorner That does help. I was considering the G8 but I don't want to take my case off. So many options for these. I am in no rush so maybe I will wait and consider the Elo Vagabond; it's expensive though. The Leadjoy looks small for me; I have abnormally large hands, but it's cheap enough to maybe give it a try perhaps.

I don't understand why they don't do that some of the Ipegas and have a bumper thing along the bottom edge so the device can't slide out onto the floor. Or a lock for the stretch at the back. (A video this long really needs chapters!)

2 things I noticed about all these knockoff controllers is that most of them have there analog sticks calibrated with a massive "outer" deadzone. So the stick would reach 100 percent despite being pushed only half way. I think I only came across one model (the t28 ps5 clone) that didn't have this issue.. also I noticed on all models the vibration motor quality doesnt work very well, and is too obnoxious in terms of strength/noise/rattle, or even delayed/inconstant.

Most recent controllers have had the motors be adjustable. Usually 2 or 3 intensity levels. Also this controller has full size analogs. It's literally a Dualshock 4 inside of a Dualsense shell. But now split in half. Just like the PS Portal is a Dualsense Split in half. Also this controller along with having full size sticks. The sticks are also hall effect. The analog triggers are also hall effect so the device should last you quite a while with those updates.

I've got the D9 with my Tab S9 and here my feedback Good quality, fits really good, but like in your video, even if my tablet is 11 inch, I feel that the controller doesnt hold so good the tablet. On the contrary on my smartphone it hold it very well. I'm wondering how good it could be on a 8inch tablet

Do you play emulators on the s9 ? Is there a back button on this controller at all as in when you press it it goes back into emulator option's... rather than touching the screen to get back in the menus ?

Yup, I remember Murder She Wrote...well actually, I remember my parents watching it quite a bit. I could never get into it, but I remember it was a very popular show. As for the controller, I think I made the right decision in getting the D8. I prefer the Xbox design and layout.

So when connecting this to my galaxy fold 5, which input would i use? Bearing in mind i will be remapping my buttons using a gamepad app...

Once I add in the VAT, it is twice the price that I paid for the D8. Overall this didn't really do it for me. The two advantages of being able to fit a larger tablet and the 2 mappable buttons are not enough to tempt me and I am glad that I got the D8. BSP does need to be careful not to flood the market with newer models so soon because it will ultimately put people off, ultimately thinking that if they bought a brand name in the first place, it might ended up more cost effective. I would really like to know where you can get a 2.4Ghz dongle for the D8 as this would be the icing on the cake, so if you can post a link that would be very useful. The next time that BSP bring one out, it should be more complete, with quad USB-C/Bluetooth/2.4Ghz/Cable connectivity. They should have learned enough about the design concepts to know what works best from that perspective. I seem to recall that the D8 also had BT 5.2

I was playing Genshin earlier and the latency was at around 20ms (often dipping to 17-18), it was really good. As for the ergonomics, I wish the handles of the controller were bigger, they feel too small. Hopefully with time some grips are released. The button placement and everything is fine, but for me having hands that are a bit bigger, I find it hard to hold comfortably, it definitely doesn't 'sit in my hands.'

Im a big fan of his designs, its incredible to see what he manages to pump out for such low cost. Sure they aren't perfect, but man they are impressive. And they seem to get dramatically better with every single release. I got the D8 for $13 USD from AliExpress and it absolutely blew my mind. But as nice as the D9 is from an ergonomic standpoint, I REALLY wish it wasnt just a flatout Dualsense clone. It really makes it look tacky. I get the D8 and previous models are very much Backbone inspired, but they're different enough to not look like a copy. Although, the simple "rectangles on the sides of phone" design makes it a lot easier to copy each other without it being insanely obvious. It's also really unfortunate that they decided to swoop down the top of the controller right after the bumpers. Absolutely no reason for that and the decision to have way less surface area for grip on a device being pushed as a tablet controller is baffling. But as you said, for as cheap as these are, it's hard to justify any complaints. The BSP controllers also really drove home my frustration with feeling like im getting ripped off by Sony lol Comparing my D8 to my (3 of them, and theyve all developed drift!) Dualsense controllers is borderline enraging. When i can buy a controller for $13 and its been built toast longer than 1st party cobtrollers that cost nearly 7x more, that's a problem. Watching 3rd parties shift en masse to hall effect joysticks and triggers has me feeling optimistic though. Just in the last 1-2 years, it seems everyone BUT the big 3 have finally abandoned potentiometers, eventually they are going to have to do the same. Either that, or everyone will see their controllers for the manufactured e-waste and money pits they are.

Would you recommend the D8 over the D9 for phone use only. I think I prefer the compact design of the D8 but could tolerate the size of the D9 if it was really that good and comfortable in comparison. (I'm assuming from your comment you haven't tried the D9 yet, but still will be far more knowledgeable than me on this subject)

Honestly, with BT 5.2, it's minimal, and you're way way more likely to experience lag / latency due to the connection quality when streaming vs anything else - this is the case in my personal experience at least. I hope that helps.

I believe this will ultimately come down to how you want to map the buttons in retroarch. The standard controller back buttons do allow you to move forward and backward thru them menu. I've not tried anything specific as I've found with retroarch on the phone, the basic UI is quickest for interaction, but

D9 is much better than the D8 in my opinion, just not as portable, so comes down to preference of portability Vs quality. I'd prob go for the D9 either way, as carrying either will require you to sacrifice a decent amount of space in your bag!

In my experience (I only fiddled for a couple minutes) it does not work with the official app. It seems Sony is dead set on you using either a DS4 or Dualsense. But there are 3rd party apps that are far better anyway, and they let you use whatever you want. PSPlay is the go-to on Android. It works very well, much better than the official app, but it's paid. I believe it was only $5 when I got it a couple of years ago? But it's a one-time purchase and easily worth it. The next big one would be Chiaki, which is great as well, but generally requires more fiddling to get things working. It's not too bad, and they do have some troubleshooting and instructions if you get stuck. Chiaki is free and open-source and does work well once you get it set up. Personally, I'd go PSPlay unless you really don't want to spend money.

Yes it works with the official PS Remote Play. You have to pair it into "MFi Mode." That's the Bluetooth protocol that will show up as a "Dualshock 4." & yes MFi Mode (Dualshock 4) works on Android devices too. You pair it into this mode with the controller turned off. Then hold B + Home (aka ⭕+🏠) then out will show up as Dualshock 4. This mode will work in PS Remote Play, Game Pass, GeForce Now, Amazon Luna etc.
