Thanks for that little walk through evaluation Mr. Stroll.... Action packed with stunt capacitor discharge , only l read some time ago it can also discharge caps via two front panel slots and smd resistor being it has no protection ? I then also agreed without the ESR proper function it didn't do what the name on the box said , which doesn't sit well . Your screwdriver will be relieved , that is if the resistor is working on it . Cheers .

Thanks for reminding me about running the self test/calibration thingy. I TOTALLY forgot about that. I should have clicked in, because today, I'm pulling a bunch of components using my snazzy new desolder (sucker) station. LOL I pulled a whole bunch of really nice Rubycon caps. The tested fine, EXCEPT every cap (those an others) display zero for ESR! I know that ain't right. After I was reminded of the calibrate thing, all the caps tested perfect and with the expected ESR. WHO KNEW! As for the teardown, I read somewhere that this is actually Arduino based. I'd love to find more info on that and see if it's possible to duplicate this, using an Arduino board and open-source code. I'd LOVE to build this, but with a nice, color Nextion display. Color is everything. LOL Anyway, joking aside, thanks for the reminder.,

I'm wondering, for in-circuit testing of caps, has anyone found a way to change the frequency? Right now, if I go into "Frequency" it's set to 0Hz and doesn't seem to be changeable. In the manual, it does say "reserved", which I suspect means, Y'ALL CAN'T CHANGE IT! ROFL A good ESR meter allows one to change the frequency for in-circuit testing. I also notice that in the Generator it also doesn't seem to allow moving up and down the list of frequencies. However, I could have sworn that I had been able to before... hmmmmm.... I do like this device. I have several different kinds and each one has my preference for different tests.

@@AmigaWolf So here's the thing. I suspect that you touched the wires with one finger or put it into your hand? In this case, yeah, it's an ouchy and not much more. BUT HERE'S THE THING AND *PLEASE DO NOT TEST THIS AS IT CAN AND MAY KILL YOU* A defibrillator puts out between 200 and 1,700 volts (usually)(about 200-360 joules). AEDs can sometimes output more, depending on the brand an "quality." It sends this voltage through the pads for just a few ms. I forget the exact timing. When you prepare the defibrillator, you may hear someone say, "Charging." That is accurate, because a setting is chosen and the large capacitors inside are charged to the desired voltage and when the button is pushed, a CPU allows voltage to flow from the caps through the pads to the skin. This "shock" can start or stop a heart. Now, all that being said, does not apply to zapping your fingers or hand. But if some numb nuts took a large cap, charged it to 400V, then took 2 wires and placed them on the chest as one would do with a defibrillator, that person can and just might die! This stuff is VERY dangerous.
