The physics of the battlestars themselves is impressive, but the fighters act like twitchy flies!

@@nessa-parmentier Yeah, you really gotta concentrate your fire to take 'em out ASAP. My advice, group your Adamants into a tight wall formation, 2 or 3 at a time, equip them with torpedoes and Focus Fire onto a single target. There's very little that can effectively stand up against the Adamant Wall of Death XD

that’s because the ai doesn’t like using tactical jump to do much other than run or dodge missiles. as a player you can easily by pass a battle star’s flak wall with its tactical jump

Yeah, maybe if missiles had a chance of getting through flak, like the higher your defense the lower percentage chance of it getting through but it still has a chance, cause right now flak just makes most cylon ships laughable especially ones with no guns and only missiles

Well tbf in the show the modern raiders can launch their own missiles they wouldn't suicide themselves into flak. They could easily sit behind the Battlestar and peck away it, launch missiles at it, or even nukes. The outnumbered vipers would get slaughtered and if the Battlestar tried to get the raiders, then it'd most likely leave itself open to the Cylon missile barrage.

@@KillerofGods He could've kept the Pegasus at range rather than maneuvering straight into the middle of them (which is the worst possible range to engage a Basestar). He managed to take one out with the Pegasus's forward guns but then failed to capitalize on his momentum and decided it was a better option to kamikaze his ship into a Basestar.

@@Mobius_118 If yu rewatch the scene the second he destroyed the first basestar, he orders an evacuation of the ship. He didnt even plan on winning, he went there opanning to destroy the pegasus and he left all his vipers behind to protect a fleet that was hiding out for months. Like what are a couple of squads of vipers going to do to a basestar? Nothing. It was either poor writing or they wanted Lee to look like an idiot. Granted the ship didnt a full crew but if one ship had to be sacrificed it had to be the galactica. Pegasus was too important

Problem with this whole scenario was that Pegasus was not full manned nor full armed when he jumped into the battle. A full crewed Mercury Battlestar must have ~ 3000 men/women servicing it at it's peak. Cain jumped away from Scorpia not fully crewed and lost about 750 able souls in a blast minutes before the jump. They only could replace part of it with commoners while canibalizing it's own ragtag fleet, so we can imagine that about 700 or a little more came aboard, and much less really capable of operating military stuff. So, the moment he did the jump to save Adama he knew it was a one way ticket to shredland. And I think Adama just jumped with the skeleton crew, the minimun necessary to move and do some shooting, but not to make more intrinscic tasks like engineering repairs and electronic countermeasurings... BUT still, bad tactics. He tauntet the other Cylons Basestars by destroying that one with one salvo. The others would go for it first, since they already broke Galactica's Jump Drive. But Galactica was able to fight (at least, to shoot). One Pegasus, even ill crewed would take at least another basestar there. Or even better, target that damn Ressurrection Ship!!! Target it would make cylons jump away in seconds, since they fear permadeath! Then, it would be a matter of cleaning up New Caprica and go for another worlds with 2 battlestars...

One of BSG Deadlocks problems, that makes battlestars overpowered, is they have got the flak completely wrong. In the game, if you turn on flack it turns off your point defence guns, but your 'battlestar artillery' still fires. What is supposed to happen however is flack is fired from the MAIN battery, meaning if you have flack up it is your main guns that should not be firing at the enemy! Therefore, rather than just losing point defence, the Artemis, Minerva and Jupiters should actually lose all their battlestar artillery to put flack up, while the Mercury should only retain its bow battery (which does not fire flak).

Battlestars can still fire their main artillery while keeping up a flak barrier (as evident by the Resurrection Ship battle, during the Captain's Hand episode when the Pegasus gets ambushed, the Ionian Nebula battle, and the battle of the Colony). The main batteries can contribute to a flak barrier, but aren't the primary source of it. With the Mercury-class, they have their AAA concealed between their armor plating (most likely a standard feature aboard Battlestars, but the Mercury was they only one that that's mentioned on).

@@Mobius_118 During the Resurrection Ship battle, Adama orders a section of his main battery to stop firing flack and start firing at the base ship (when he orders batteries A through E to 'switch to salvo fire'). Cain puts down his flack field and orders ALL his batteries to fire offensively (you actually start seeing Pegasus rocking and taking more hits after this). Both battlestars obviously keep up their smaller AAA fire. During The Captains Hand, Adama jr. only orders the bow battery, her 86 inch forward cannons that do not even fire flack, to engage the base ships. All the rest of her guns are still devoted to flack. During the Ionan Nebula and Colony battles, Galacticas main battery was firing completely defensive.

@@Debbiebabe69 A Battlestar has two types of AAA: Long range which is what their main guns fire and CIWS which is what's shown here. Even if the CIWS is active, the main guns are free to engage enemy capital ships. The primary contributor to CIWS for the Galactica is the smaller guns mounted on the sides of the flight pods (which is why you lose the secondary guns in game when you turn on flak) as well as several guns that are never shown on the CGI model. The Pegasus has guns concealed between its armor plates which is how it can produce a flak barrier above and below itself despite all of its main guns being mounted either on the bow or the sides with no ability to aim up. - During the Resurrection Ship battle, you still see bursts of flak from both Battlestars even after the order is given to switch the secondary batteries to full attack mode, though not as concentrated as they were previously (the Galactica even intercepts 4-5 missiles in the shot right after that line). - During the Captain's Hand, Lee fires the turrets mounted above the Pegasus's main guns in conjunction all the while the Pegasus is still producing a flak barrier. - During the Colony battle, the Galactica's main guns were firing normal anti-capital shells at the Colony's defenses while maintaining a flak barrier with its secondary batteries and AAA.
