I picked up a pair of sonics 800x monoblocks, they are just rebranded Bryston 7B amps made for IMAX theaters. They are absolutely amazing sounding with my Carver AL-III speakers.

Hello! Hey, that’s fantastic! I hope you enjoy them very much. They should last an eternity and drive any speaker system with ease!

This video is very much appreciated. I have this same 4b , same vintage. It just started blowing fuses 2 days ago. It was running in my recording studio when it started making a hiss on one side which got louder until the fuse blew. After you do the refurbish video I will redo my 4b. Using a crown class D amp until the 4b is back up. I am missing the 4b, the crown is no comparison to the 4b. Thanks again.

Hello teammate! Thank you so much for watching my video and commenting. I really appreciate it. I am terribly sorry about your Bryston Amplifier, breaking down. Do you have any experience at all with a soldering iron? Do you have soldering tools? And a multimeter? You would also need a dim bulb which you can make with about $20 at the Home Depot. Every Bryston that I have seen blowing fuses have blown output, transistors.

I have some experience and most of the tools to do the job. But I think your upcoming 4b refurbish video will make the job much easier. I really want to bring this amp back to new condition. I'm amazed at how good it sounds . Thanks again.

@@fibes1 Hello teammate! In the first video, I show how to test the output transistors with the multimeter in continuity mode. You will see that in your amp, some of the output transistors on one channel are shorted. There are two drivers and four output transistors on the positive side of that channel and another two drivers and four transistors on the negative side. I recommend replacing all four drivers and eight out output, transistors, on that channel. Correct me if I’m wrong, but one channel of your amp still works. Right???? Part two of the video will be out very soon and I will make it very detailed for you to be able to follow. 🙂🙏

great amps... i have two Bryston 3B amps. I had them fully rebuilt by Bryston, but it cost $1K each...if you have time and skills, this video is very helpful. I went through Bryston's Back to the Future program.

Thank you so much for watching my video! These are great amps indeed! I will be doing the restoration shortly and would love to hear what you think. I just need a couple of days to get all the parts ready. Hopefully it will be a useful guide for DIY warriors! Did your restoration include the cosmetic part as well or just electronic? I believe Bryston offer cosmetic restoration as well. Sometimes the anodizing can turn purple. Once again, thank you, thank you thank you so much!😊

I just asked for electronic restoration. Cosmetic restoration would have added quite a bit to the cost... and I already spent $1K each. My anodizing is still black on both amps...but there are a few scratches as you would expect after 30+ yrs. I am looking forward to your rebuild.@@Tinybench

@@jimf5160 That’s great teammate! Those scratches are battle scars! Every unit has its own story, and those scratches just had a little bit of character. You can try to make it better with a black sharpie.🙂🙏

Hello teammate! Thank you very much for watching my video! I would be very happy to help! Are you in Miami? Is the humming audible on both channels or just one channel? Any chance you could upload a video? I don’t think your amp is old enough to have any power supply issues. Sometimes the problem can be solved by using a power cable with only two prongs. or a three prong to two prong adapter from Home Depot or Amazon. Sometimes it can be a ground loop from having the amplifier and the pre-amplifier plugged on different outlets.

@@phatpanda253 Are both channels humming, or only one? Have you tried the three prong to two prong converter? Try different interconnects. Did you recently change Internet companies? If you recently switched to Comcast, please try unplugging the modem and router. Any changes in the electrical system of the house? Try a different outlet and plug all audio electronics into the same outlet. You need to rule out everything that can cause humming.

@@SOUNDCONTROLFLA It’s probably the output transistors. That’s what it is most of the times, but sometimes it can be something like a diode. You can also be just a fuse which you can check yourself very easily. It’s really hard to say without seeing it in person but an average it’s around $300 including parts. If you really like the Amplifier, I would be more inclined to just do a full restoration and that way you know the amplifier will last you if you decades. The amplifiers are rather simply, and it would just be a matter of replacing all the electrolytic capacitors, thermal grease, and any resistors out of value. Thank you very much and by the way, if you haven’t subscribe to my channel, I would really appreciate it if you do so because it would really help . Thank you thank you thank you so much !🙂🙏 And by the way within the next couple of days, I am going to do a full restoration on a Bryston 4B where I will show people exactly how to do it.
