Brymbo Steelworks Closure 30th Anniversary

Today marks 30 years since Brymbo Steelworks closed. A day many can still recall vividly.
The ongoing health restrictions mean we can't commemorate the anniversary in person this year, so instead, our chief techy chap Leon has put together this short video for you. Have a watch, pause to remember, and share freely.
Best wishes and take care from all at Brymbo Heritage Trust.

I drove through a new road yesterday as I was taking a diversion on route to Chester. I noticed how deserted all the surrounding area was and with new houses being built here and there. I instantly knew it was at some point a vast area of industry but didn’t know anything about the area. I’m from the Midlands but have a massive interest in industrial history. After some investigation I found where I had driven through was this steelworks area. Very fascinating and will give me plenty to read up on when I’m back at home

I worked there briefly as a labourer in 1972. Good hard work and decent pay. Still have a photo taken by the works photographer. A cold, sleety, snowy day. I was outside, on my own, opening bags of lime and mixing them with water, which was something to do with the process. This man says stand up I want a photo for the organisation. I thought nothing of it but my Dad handed me the photo a couple of weeks later. The photographer knew him and had passed it on. Nice touch, whoever that good man was!
