I have the Brydge Max+ and it has replace the Magic Keyboard since I have the 2021 12.9 iPad Pro. I really did not want to have to replace the old one with the new one. I could not be happier with the Brydge. It has come a long way from there first try and a trackpad where I really do not think about it any more I am so used to it and the weight is not all that bad since I do carry a 16 MBP at time with me. Very good review as well.

Ok, so lets just break it down to semantics. The additional weight and that missing “x factor” re the micro latency that keeps getting brought up (due to being Bluetooth over apple smart connector) is where and why you’ll save the $100 diff. Fernando, no mention or review re the typing experience while palms of hands rested on bottom left and right sides and due to the behemoth trackpad may sometimes trigger an unwanted trackpad gesture?

  • @fjordstrom

  • @alexfair

@@jackwong64 we are talking about a tablet that is primarily touchscreen driven. Function keys simulate touch actions. So having function keys that mimics touches via a selected accessory (like a keyboard and trackpad) that has your hands in a non-touchscreen position is logical. And again the Brydge product provides that, Apple’s does not. Your analogy doesn’t hold up for what is being discussed. Then again people will make the craziest excuses for Apple products.

Before deciding on the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro 12.9, I did have a chance to try the bridge + keyboard. After my test run of the keyboard, I had found what I have found from previous versions of Brydge keyboard, that is they feel like unfinished products. Why I feel this way is partly because of the texture on the buttons, when typing it feels like your left with this weird powdery texture on the tips of your fingers and the proportion of the weight when attached makes the keyboard feel more than .5 lb more than the Magic Keyboard.

I have both. It’s not just the cleaning of the Magic Keyboard that is an issue. It is also the durability. Mine is coming apart at the seams. I got one at release, I think Apple made a serious error on the material decision of this. The only issue, which I guess I will get used to with the Brydge is the unintentional clicks on the giant trackpad. Honestly it’s so big it’s pretty much too big. Also Brydge is way heavier.

@@murraymortson4307 that’s a crazy wait. Here’s how I’ve found it - bear in mind that I am running iPadOS 15 Beta 4 but I have the latest Brydge firmware installed The keyboard is really nice, great typing feel and travel on the keys. The trackpad is OK just now, pretty smooth but there is a slight jitter however this could be because of the 15 beta. I think the trackpad might be too big - unintended touches registering and moving the pointer but not often though. Bluetooth 5 is really good but I would have preferred (of course) a Smart Connector. Pretty pleased with first impressions. Weight is not that heavy at all. Great ‘lapability.’ The Apple Magic Keyboard IS quicker and smoother in terms of operation but this is a nice keyboard. Feels really nice too. The new SnapFit lid for the iPad Pro is great - SO much better than those hideous hinges Brydge used to have. Function keys - EXCELLENT. Biggest bugbear - tap to hold and drag doesn’t work on the Brydge but as soon as I switch over to the Magic Keyboard, boom - it’s there.

It's frustrating because there's no keyboard/trackpad case that does the bare minimum of what I'm looking for. I want some thing that's designed like this, but use the smart connector, so I can charge the case and the iPad together, and not have to worry about the Bluetooth connecting and disconnecting all the time. Ideally I'd also like to have a hub built into it, and I would like to talk to detach so I can turn it into a regular iPad or taken on the go without the keyboard from time to time (I also use my iPad for navigation in the car, so much better than Apple CarPlay). I like this one a lot, but doesn't use a smart connector, doesn't have a hub. The Doqo does offer a hub version, but without using the smart connector, relies on a walkie cable system. The logitech is basically a light version of the Apple one. The Apple one he's a smart connector, but is incredibly overprice, and lacks build quality in the casing material.

Four days after I bought the Brydge, the trackpad packed up. No cursor, but I can see the iPad's response to the cursor, and the space bar acts as a back button. Looking online, it seems that Brydge have had trackpad issues for a long time, and they still haven't solved it. I'm not willing to wait - it's going back. I can't live with an unreliable keyboard, however lovely it looks.

That was the first thing i did right after installing the app. After the update it pretty much feels almost just as smooth as the magic keyboard but i do notice just a tad bit of jitter but not that noticeable. So far its not buggin me since it is Bluetooth connectivity.

The iPad's touch gestures are already finicky ~10% of the time so coupled with the Brydge's trackpad problems it's probably going to be a frustrating experience, at least for those used to the MK. People thinking about something like this should ask themselves if they even need it. My MK essentially serves as a stand and case with very light typing, even on sale for $199 it's not a must have. Except for the butterfly keyboards, modern MacBooks and bluetooth Magic Keyboards offer a better typing and trackpad experience, not to mention a better OS for laptop work.
