Bryan's Trauma Survivor Story | UPMC
UPMC pulmonologist Dr. Bryan McVerry was essentially "shot" in the chest when a piece of a sledgehammer broke off while he was chopping wood in his backyard two years ago. The metal punctured his pulmonary artery, a catastrophic injury that he had a slim chance of surviving.
Despite those odds, a rapid EMS response team and skilled cardiac and trauma surgeons at UPMC Presbyterian were able to save him.
