I was struggling to get to Purple rank because I don't even know how to optimize some of Bryan's move all this time. One thing I find interesting about Bryan's 124 is that, as a 10f counter-hit bait at the wall, it's really not that bad of a move. For example, Lee's 223 serves a similar purpose, and although it is delayable, you won't find many Lee players consistently getting the string to work purely as a counter-hit confirm. They're more often going to use b1:1 for wall pressure, because it fills a similar role as 223, just more reliably and with more mix-up potential, despite its much lower reward on a counter or read. Even a character like Jin has his 24 for a nice wallsplat, which is extremely duckable, but its usual use as a 10f punisher and his 214 string keeps most ducks in check. IMO the issue isn't that 124 is necessarily a bad string, but more that Bryan has much better moves to be used at the wall (you already know all about these). Season 2 made the string not entirely useless, which is good, but if 124 were to have any kind of hit confirm properties, I can imagine its use skyrocketing. But who knows, maybe it would have the same effect as buffing his d+2 (which is virtually nothing). RIP d+2 hype. One side note I think is interesting about hit confirmable strings: Lil Majin spoke on his stream about how he so reliably counter-hit confirms King's d/f+2,1 string. He looks to see if the opponent is in an attack animation; if they are, and d/f+2 connects, he has time to react and finish the string. The same concept could be applied to moves like Lee's 223, but again, like Lee's b1:1, and like Bryan's other better options at the wall, it's more of an issue of what other tools the character has.

  • @PeterYMao

    @PeterYMao

    4 жыл бұрын

    The main 2 issues with 1,2,4 is that it can't be used as a 10fr punish as even if the first 2 hits connect, the last hit can be blocked, or worse yet, it can be ducked and launch punished. Which in this case is different from Jin's 2,4 as 2,4 is a natural string. If 2 connects on hit, the 4 is guaranteed to hit. I really wish 1,2,4 could be a 10fr punish, but alas :( it's not meant to be.

    18:00 I think no body can react in 10 frames whether it was a 4 or a f3. I am familiar with that 12 into f3 but I think it works because it covers options that are offensive. Opponents blocks 12 and then blocks 4 is still safe, so they decide to sidestep into jab or plus move after blocking the 12, that's where the f3 tracking on ch comes in. If they sidestep and look, then it's a new meta is evolving. The real safe option when blocking 12 is backdashing making 4 and f3 whiff or just duck jab to interrupt the f3, no hesitation problem because f3 is not a very fast mid. Edit: but yea, I agree, just clarifying for the comment section. changing rhythm is the thing for Bryan. If you can't have big enough balls for inputting different things and changing timing and have a few frames of not doing anything, you might as well play a basic bitch like kazumi, josie or some shit.

But I just want to say: don't give it up. Sure, take care of your household as you surely should, but don't erase the idea of being a content creator. You're so great a it. And these things take time, like 5-10 years time to get known enough to live off it. So I understand your situation, but seeing how commited and passionate you look and sound doing this, I also know that you shouldn't quit on the idea. Just take a slower pace and you'll get another shot at it once the money issue is not so big. Congratulations on such a good work and good luck with life!

    qcb 2, qcf4 are both safe on block with insane range. Apply the same thing here. Don't complete the string, or even make the first hit wiff on purpose to set up a ch(although the whiff strategy works best with df23). Also consider that the long range could really set up for a b1 or 3+4 if your opponent likes to dash. 12 to sidestep or 12 to 124 is very common.

  • @PeterYMao

    @PeterYMao

    4 жыл бұрын

    1,2,4 is actually not a bad place to use after f+3 at certain ranges. It works way more times that it should because what happens is sometimes the f+3 is +1 or +2 on block due to the range it hits from. In that instance, the 1,2,4 becomes a frame trap and is a 10FR CH string.

    Great guides about Bryan Peter. Regarding the 1,2 into 4 and 1,2 into f+3 timing counter hit mixup, does the frame disadvantage has an effect on when the opponent times his jab response or other attack. For example will the d/f+1,1,1 into 4 and d/f+1,1,1 into f+3 work the same way as the 1,2 into 4 and 1,2 into f+3 if the timing of the opponent's button presses is the same in both 1,2 and d/f+1,1,1 situations, but the d/f+1,1,1 being -10 on block and 1,2 being -2. Does the frame disadvantage plays a big role in this situation?

  • @PeterYMao

    @PeterYMao

    3 жыл бұрын

    Frame advantage does play a big role because d/f+1 on block is -10 where as 1,2 is -2. If your opponent decides to block punish you on d/f+1,1,1 on block regardless of how fast you input 4 or f+3 you will always be punished if they decide to throw out a punish there. Also if they decide to throw out a magic 4, at the same time you press 4, you will almost certainly get hit by a counter hit before you more even has a chance. 1,2 is a bit harder because your opponent has far less frames to work with to counter hit you. It's possible, but much much less likely.

    It will be covered here on this channel for sure. I am but just one guy who writes the scripts for the videos. While we do have an editor now to help with editing and another to help with editing the scripts I'm still the only person writing this stuff out. Stick around and I'm sure it'll be covered for you my friend :)

    I dont think that Bryan can pressure any characters.. Mishimas guys or Dragunov just wait it. An Steve players just be laughing. Bryan is a character whos basic is a movement in my opinion.

  • @PeterYMao

    Bryan can pressure characters, but it is difficult. Most of his pressure is confounded on mind games. There are characters that excel at this far better than him, Alisa, Law, Feng, you name it. I have a whole video on Bryan's pressure and breaking it down on how it works / doesn't work. But against match-ups like Steve, you are not meant to pressure them. Steve is a match-up where I believe you have to play keep out, otherwise Bryan will get CH left and right. I hope that helps.

    Why not do 1,2 delayed 1 then? You have to do 2 options the d+1 and then WS+1. Against good players that will not work. I suggest sticking to the options I suggested.

    Asad Khan why would I do b+4 instead of f+3? They have the same start up frames. And f+3 has the potential to counter hit and get a full launch while b+4 you only get a Mach punch?

    So wordy. The intro especially. The conclusions are simple as cake (a helpful cake), but the process of "selling" it was kind of tiresome. Despite an illusion that these would help to solidify the understanding, stretching the time dilutes explanations (as it consists of logical steps). Thanks for an effort put into illustration, in terms of clips, frame data etc.
