Bryan Heart Structural Heart Program: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

Patients in need of a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure have an aortic valve that is diseased or hardened by calcification that it no longer opens or closes the way it should and needs to be replaced with a man-made valve. In the past, the only way to replace this valve was through open-heart surgery. Today, we can often use a long, thin tube (catheter) to replace the valve.
To decide if this surgery is right for you, we need a lot of information about you, your heart and your general health.
Testing required for TAVR assessment is typically split up over a two-day period. Once you have completed all of the workup, your individual case and testing results will be reviewed by the Bryan Heart Structural Heart Team, a multidisciplinary team of experts including Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Interventional Cardiologists, Invasive Cardiologists, Advanced Practice Providers and Nurses.
Once we have gathered all of the needed information, we will discuss all of your treatment options. The final choice will be yours. At Bryan Heart, we put the patient first by involving you in your care. Our Structural Heart Team is here to support you with any questions or concerns you may have during this time.
