Brutality honest truth about Rlaarlo AM-X12 overhyped and overpriced fake carbon fiber?

my un-boxing and thoughts on the rlaarlo amx-12.
never had a new car break before a full lap.
Not a good first impression out of the box.
sure its a slightly better wltoys but price for value i wouldn't recommend this at its current price. some say this is the best 1/12 they have ever driven make me think WTF are you driving to think this is the best?
the platform can absolutely be upgraded to be a dirt monster with wltoys reliability.
was this rc made to compete with LC Racing in price but not value?? if so Rlaarlo you have a long way to go!!!!
Stop with your ridiculous price gouging or offer Real carbon fiber your customers $$$$ for.

It's laminated g10. It's super flexible. The first race drones were made of laminated g10 back in the day. It's not very strong. It flexes too much and is cheap to produce. My Chinese carbon fiber is just laminated g10. It tricks people who never owned real carbon fiber before. It is hard to flex a 3mm thick carbon plate. It's super stiff. We call the Chinese Carbon fiber Glam-Fiber. lol.

Good honest review! I agree, I would not have bought this at full retail price of $250. $150 shipped presale was about right at the time. My main purpose for this was to have a small basher to take on the road with me since it has the nice lil travel case. I have yet to install the 17t pinion, Sensored 390 motor & HW 10bl120. Kinda wanna see if this Mamba Max Pro works too.

I agree with you also $150 basher hands down would sell out because its a good platform to build on as a roller. Esc and motor are junk. If your running sensored 17 or 15 is a must. What kv did you get? Are you running for speed only or dirt? Your esc will be fine but watch your motor temps. I honestly think you'll be happier with an lcracing truggy motor 2850 4500kv 19t pinion OR remove the slipper and put a wl center drive fixed gear with you sensored motor.

I was tempted by these but not at that price. I bought a 124017 V2 and a 144001 instead. I have slowly been adding a few LC parts to the 124. BHC-1 rear tires, low profile LC fronts, droop screws, and sway bars are next. I love the way it handles for now. Using the 144 more as a basher though I have lowered that too. I went with the same two. I'm going to use the 124017 V2 as a street basher and the 144001 for our in yard offroad track. The drivetrain on the brushless did not hold up well and had to be entirely upgraded to LC Racing axles and the "hardened" diffs and center shaft. It pays to have spare differential drive cups as well.

It looks like it's plastic but a fake weave print doesn't necessarily mean it's fake carbon fiber. Don't worry about the flex as it might be a good thing that increases survivability in a crash and aide in traction and handling. Carbon fiber fishing poles and arrow shafts are extremely flexible too.

Wait ✋ if your paying for a carbon chassis on an rc car that goes 40+mph wouldn't you expect a light weight and stiff chassis? When the gears are relying on straight engagement of chassis and and top plate to not shred. What exactly would be the benefit of that much flex? My front shock tower also broke on its second run 4th lap. Took that apart and was able to just snap it with my fingertips. I honestly don't care if it is or isn't carbon fiber. I care about the kids as the are now sold at $280. Price per value this is a clone of an actual high quality race vehicle Rlaarlo is now more money then an LC Racing.

@@ixclusiverc The gears are mounted on a metal motor mount, the gears in the diff are sealed and the ring and pinion gears of the diffs and drive shafts are firmly mounted inside the bulkheads. Any flex should be handled by the dog bone couplings and universal shafts thus maintaining proper gear mesh. Back in the early 90's people figured out chassis need flex not super stiff bracing. Modern RC racing cars are designed to flex. Study the chassis and you can see where the engineers designed the chassis to flex. This is most evident in traction critical classes like pan cars and drift cars. Even in bashing, stuff like Traxxas and aftermarket companies like RPM make their stuff flexible so it doesn't break. Even in full scale racing like top fuel dragsters, their chassis are designed to flex to increase traction. Safety wise, they figured out in the 60's that super stiff cars kill the drivers in collisions. This is why we have crumple zones. You have to design in weak points so you can control how something flexes and ultimately gets destroyed in a controlled manner.

@@toolbaggers you gave a detailed description on the drive line assembly, that does not change the fact that I can twist the chassis to change the sound and feel of clearly the drive tran binding. Which is the reason the sell real carbon top plate for LC racing cars to nearly eliminate flex along with hard arms to make the car as stiff as possible. Its also great you know a little about the 60's but we are talking about a mini buggy designed after a carpet racer. I'm very familiar with carpet set up and flex is something you want to eliminate as the traction is more precise. Not sure why the comparison of drag and drift but let's go there. Can you point me to any chassis that has so much flex the rear tires elevate ABOVE the front one from a simple twist that can also handle very well on a track? I can't twist any other carbon parts I own let alone snap them with my fingers. I hear the point your trying to make but considering rlaarlo isn't using this carbon on the new release should say something to its durability. If flex is warranted why not have it on a DT that drives only in dirt conditions? I guess they didn't see the benefit of a $20 carbon kit sold from aliexpress or found the same flaws I pointed out. Something I did find interesting China 🇨🇳 had the option of a metal chassis. USA 🇺🇸 never seen that version wonder why that was? My guess was not to our benefit. AMX-12 = $280 (for a wltoys)

@@ixclusiverc Flex is actually good for an rc car in most cases. Carbon fiber is strong but on the long term, it ain't gonna last if it's brittle, on an rc car. You NEED your chassis to be flexible, not brittle. And the carbon fiber they use has a good chance of being real, not all carbon fiber feels the same. There are many 'carbon fiber' items which are intentionally built to flex, depending on the use case.

AM-x12 broke at my first run attempt. One cardan, the plastic arm, the suspension and servo (metal geared but one plastic gear inside). Then I bought the extra pieces in the official store (at a quite expensive price), tried another run and then the wheel cup broke also (Another 15 days and pricey spares). Finding spare parts for Rlaarlo is impossible out of their expensive shop. All of the spares are very similar to WLtoys parts but have slight differences so you can't use them together. Different screws, different bearing sizes, etc. Spare parts are very expensive compared to the car itself and cannot be replaced by any other aftermarket parts. This makes a huge difference with WLtoys that can be upgraded for a fraction of the price and maybe faster shipping.

As a professional racer this car may be one of the best 1/12 scale cars, this car has a soft suspension system, meaning it will be good for bashing on grass, drifting on dirt and sand, bumping on low height (10-25 inches) bumps, racing it on low height carpet or any ground. This car has two pinions, one for speed testing and one for bashing, the speed test one is the stock 27t pinion that is guaranteed to hit 60mph, and the other is a 17t that is used for bashing and racing. because of the high gearing and soft suspension, this beast cannot be used for playing with very high ramps and hard landings with a 27t pinion that explodes the shafts and makes the car undrivable. This car is designed to have two options and not one, just like I said for 17t you can do anything with it except high hard and big 1-1.5 meter high jumps (soft ground is OK for big 17t jumps). BTW 3s is just way to strong and fast for racing and bashing this car. So final opinion this car is a very good option for racing bashing and speed testing for the following rules: 17T pinion: Bashing, bumping (jumping) and racing on sand gravel dirt carpet and grass. Asphat racing and speed testing Suitable for 3s and 2s. The 27T pinion: Speed testing only. Suitable for 2s and 3s. Decent for sand dirt gravel grass speeding. PLUS: the carbon fiber used by this car is Normal, the carbon fiber thickness is too thin, that's why it bends and flexes. But at the same time when it slams on surface it will flex and return to it's normal shape, making it a good advantage for alloy Chassis cars. Try bending it 45° trust me it will break at 50°. Never try to fail a car on purpose like this, people want to see what this thing actually does, it's a beast for the price (bit pricy lmao) carbon fiber on this car wouldn't break easily, it will degrade and break ofc

60 mph is non included 3s top speed Stock with 27t is 45mph All my LC & WL track cars range from 37mph -45mph. The included 17t was intended for running 3s and would be way to slow on 2s which is why I didn't install it & I don't run 3s on any track car. The 27t can be used on big jumps let explain the problem you see in this video. All Chinese rc companies esc are pre-programmed with a soft puch setting for beginner drivers and to prevent stripping the soft metals provided in the drive assembly. The rlaarlo esc has 2 stages in the trigger pull which makes in near impossible for any kind of air control. A correct punch value and properly set slipper clutch from factory would have made the car drive able and a slim chance of breaking. Isn't that the purpose of the slipper clutch? Changing to a hobby grade adjustable esc fixes this issue. -To much chassis flex is an additional spring rate that can create more grip & makes the car unpredictable in corners depending on speed and force. This also gives the potential of Diffing - out while its trying to fight against the suspension in high traction carpet. -Steering also has an extreme amount of play before the servo saver is activated. The springs are actually firm and long. The soft landing you feel is do to the ride (height for off road and large jumps). Not sure how a pro racer overlooked all of its flaws and settings 🤔 So price for value a (clone of a clone) that cost more then all of my (original) LCRACING platform RTR/KIT and wl track (clone) cars....rlaarlo is garbage at $300. A fully built lc12b1 is mid motor 3 sets of springs and 3 sets of sway bars. Real stiff carbon fiber. Fully upgraded with quality electronics Also $300. Better in every way!!! A car company that has never needed revisions or YT channels to give feedback on problems. Hobby grade plastic and metal. As a clone if you think an $300 AMX-12 is comparable to an LC then your delusional.

The manual and parts diagram makes no mention of the set screw, but it is the same size as the one for the pinion. I’ve lost 2 in 2 rides, so I’ve ordered an assortment of metric set screws and will loctite them. Otherwise, it’s a fun car.

I can see if someone is out racing that this chassis has way to much flex to be true carbon. I think to me, it looks like a carbon laminate like they use to wrap around motorcycle mufflers, so it needs to offer some flex. Rlaarlo offers the hardened steel axles for these which are really good. They maybe should of designed some hardened steel drive cups as well. All in all I think these are solid little cars and fun bashers. I have every Rlaarlo named model except for the 917 and will soon be purchasing the desert buggy. I think some people are over critical on these even if they recommend buying only at sale prices. I totally get being critical at the regular price. So far I am happy with all of mine . @@ixclusiverc I agree that the $279 asking price is way over what it should be. I think this is a $140-$150 car. For that price, it would be much more worth it. The extras are a nice touch. The cvd’s that Rlaarlo had problems with breaking were replaced by ones that were re-engineered and sold as “hardened steel” units that have to be purchased separately. I had bought some for my purple buggy with verification numbers on the axles themselves. Whether they really are hardened or not I don’t know. I do know they are way stronger than the originals. These are supposed to be available for the X12 as well and sold separately. I do not do any racing as the nearest track is over 70 miles from me. So bashing is what I do with all kinds of various “budget” Rc’s . what worries me about Rlaarlo is that they started out as a great way to enter the hobby but,for someone who is new and missed the big pre sale event , the regular price of their intermediate cars are definitely overvalued. @roadstar499 your absolutely correct. I just ran it out of the box to see what the hype was at the time. I did make several changes and suggest the same for your WL. Stock esc are designed for a beginner in mind. It has a long dead spot in the trigger and a delay in acceleration. Changing this will give you full control. Transmitter does not have a dual rate, so Changing terrain makes it difficult to avoid spinning. The Dumbo TX this car came with is actually very nice. Tires are very important for grip and the wltoys tire are awesome but if you can remove them and install on a rim with a +5 or +6 offset on the 1/12, you will like it much better.

I have tested X12 last week on the dusty dirt track for 1/10-1/8 buggy. It is totally unpredictable in jumps and also in normal driving. I bought it for pre-sale 149$ and think that is max price for which is worth to. Normal price is so close to way better buggies. Nice toy but not really model. Including hex screws which have standard phillips thread...nice for collection, but not a really serious buggy for run for example dirt track. Maybee some bashing why not, but it getting borring when there is no goal. Track training is way better. I just bashed around the house, street few years, but it is nothing when i compare it with track including jumps etc :-)

As someone in the carbon fibre industry. Given the photos you have taken. In my opinion and again with the evidence you’ve shown. That’s definitely not carbon fibre. Under magnification heck even with good eye sight you should be able to see the individual strands of fibre/ carbon filaments that make up a tow (block if you prefer). As far as I’m aware lowest k rating you can get is 1k ( 1000 carbon filament per tow) and you will clearly be able to identify its strands of filaments. Flex wise, with carbon fibre it’s technically possible to flex as much as shown in the video, however I can guarantee after a couple of twists like you shown you will hear it begin to crack etc. I could go on and on. However I’m just here to say you sir got lied to. That is definitely not carbon fibre on the chassis

Ok can you explain why a carbon fiber fishing pole can bend almost in half fish after fish and not beak or crack especially an ultralight one?

  • @Jaedyn_S

    @Jaedyn_S

    10 ай бұрын

@@JohnSmith-zz3mq short answer is how the toes of the carbon fibre is run along the fishing pole, along with how the toes of the reinforcement plies are laid will give some flexibility to carbon fibre. Carbon can bend within tolerance but compared to other materials carbon fibre is a more rigid material and flexes less. Making it more suitable for larger fish.

I built severa paintball gun,l bikes, automotive parts, and rc parts with quality carbon fiber. I have never seen anything flex like this car. Can you please show me any rc car with carbon fiber with this much flex? From my own experience I thing carbon is stiffer then aluminum but as you can see in this video I can flex the carbon 3x great then the aluminum chassis. I would love to see any products with a premium price that has flexible carbon fiber. What should I look up?

Now you avoid the question to tell me a clone of an actual race RC is a great car at around the same price? At $200 its a good deal at $300 consumers are being ripped off. Esc is preprogrammed for beginners drivers... maybe thats why you like it!

hello. X12 is worse than WL 124017. I'm disappointed with the X12. And as you tested, this car doesn't appear to be carbon fiber. Rlaarlo is a scammer. But since I bought the X12, I have to use it. Steering is good thanks to the sway bar. However, the speed is much slower than 124017. And X12 has a lot of problems with the screws at the bottom. There are a few loose, loose pieces that don't fit tightly. X12's original motor & ESC generate a lot of heat. Motor & ESC to upgrade X12 Can I get a recommendation from you? ^_^

Check out my rlaarlo redemption video. 19t is better suited for that motor. If your running 3s then I would use the 17t pinion. The Wl that I'm showing flex in this video has the rlaarlo slipper and motor mount. That one has a 2850 lc truggy motor 4500kv 17t pinion. That 8s a great set up. Just look for a surpass 2845 around the same kv and you will be very happy with its acceleration and speed. Esc hobbywing 10bl30 should do but if you running in dirt I would go HW 10bl60.

Yeah it goes on sale from time to time for $160 on Amazon. That was also the original release price and that why all the amazing reviews (value per cost). Then when everyone gave it hope they doubled the price to $300. I made this video to call them out on why they think they can rip off new rc enthusiasts. If you haven't yet I highly recommend changing the esc. It has a throttle delay designed for a beginner driver. Throw in a hobbywing or any other cheap esc and you will like the car even more then you do now. Instant torque and very controllable throttle range. I would also say the slipper clutch isn't set from factory and needs to be backed off a little. Definitely a good deal and glad you got one at that price!!!👍
