I'm a book minimalist. Only own books I absolutely love and will reread very often.

I love a brutal book purge! I have to sit down and actually get rid of some books, they're overwhelming me 😭 Thank you for the inspiration!!

I have a few treasure tomes sogned by favorite authors, but I'm not really a collector. I'm a habitual re-reader. At this point in my life, I have enough books read and unread/TBR that my 2024 focus is unhauling. Some I will read and only keep if I love them or know I will reread so I can continue a series. Some I have ebooks for, and I'll unhaul. I will use my local library more. I am being ruthless. I will soon put up the Little Free Library I had built and start releasing the books into the wild. That thought makes me feel happy.

I dont struggle with keeping read books. I struggle with letting go of unread ones. The potential is painful to lose

Ah yes I don't have that issue with a small TBR but I imagine it is really difficult!

I unhaul a book if: a. I didn’t like it, b. properly DNFed it, c. wouldn’t reread it, d. It’s been on my shelves for too long without being read and I’ve lost interest in it and e. someone will get more out of it than I did. I try to be very ruthless with my unhauls now too as I don’t have tons of space, and when I do eventually move, I would like my collection to be a bit more manageable. At the moment though it would be great if I could actually get my unhauled books out of the house, rather than leave them stacked in a corner for months on end.

I feel you, I have managed to actually unhaul everything this year and I'm so proud!

Your shame faces were a delight. 😂 Great job unhauling! I’m in the midst of the process myself, and it feels good to let them go. I’m only keeping books I still want to read (which is not a lot of YA anymore) and books I’ve truly enjoyed.

I have been trying to downsize a lot this year - my unhaul in nov was like 100 but some were from a previous pass that I hadn’t actually got rid of lol. But I do, more and more, think that I should keep ones I will reread and have loved. The trick is I love a lot :/ but I do have space on the shelves in my room rn so I’ll take that (the special shelves throughout the house and the spare room shelves may be another matter lol)
