This is actually such a simple mission when you look at it. Not overly flashy, no high end voice actors, long empty drive to the objective. Y’all had the formula to a GREAT game the whole time. Disappointing where we ended up.

well its because DICE did research before making this game. They obviously studied US military armored combat tactics and movements. What brings chills to you during this mission is the "heart pumping" background music, but mainly the fact that the first 30 seconds you are thrown into a tank echelon formation where it puts the idea into your mind that you are not alone... you and the other tanks are operating as a UNIT, and even though they are AI bots scripted for the mission by the developers, it feels like you work together. SOOO many first person shooters try to drive home the "lone wolf sandbox" style of gameplay. The REAL immersion comes from missions like this, where you HAVE to work together with the AI. This is one of the reasons that I didnt really like how they approached BF4s campaign. It was too sandbox-y.... Bad Company was different because it was literally just you and the squad mates. BF3s mentality was that you operated as a UNIT when you were playing Blackburn.

The pacing of this story mission is perfect, we open up to a character we have never heard of or played as before and instantly know he's a dad, he has a family, his son gave him a toy dinosaur as a gift, Miller can't help but stop looking at it as he probably just wants to get home where he safe and with his family, but his fellow tank crew member and loader reassures him it'll be fine and he'll be back in time for his birthday, this is all without any dialogue from Miller himself, Miller also shows himself to be a selfless soldier who went ahead for the marines to set off the anti mine launcher. That last scene is probably the nightmare of all military men, it makes you think which is better going out on their terms or yours? As a propaganda tool to rally more enemies of freedom or quick and painlessly with one last bullet inside the tank? Scary.

I love how the gameplay in this level is about as simple as it gets. Literally no different than battlezone from 1980. But to that you add the little intro at the beginning that tells you so much with just a couple frames, the calm then frantic radio chatter from your buddies, the awesome audio and womp of the explosions, the screen static and loud beeping when you get hit, the soundtrack playing in the background. All that going on and its impossible not to feel immersed. I remember playing this the first time and swore there was sand blowing around in my room.

Tankers use their thermal sight as primary for identifying tanks at longer distances. The TC scans in day optics at the same time. And never stay in one spot unless you’re being hunted and you have good cover. You kids would’ve loved the Gulf War and 73 Easting, they used the Iraqi sabot rounds as foot pegs after the battle since they didn’t penetrate. @@TR-Mead After being folded into 11B I quickly noticed that none of our skills was considered, it’s like an entire skill set was abandoned. Tank hunting is an art to itself without exception, the TOW missile is only the first weapon we have at our disposal. We could be classified as FAC’s since we could call in and direct CAS missions to include specific munition deploy, ents for the CAS aircraft. We were often used as scouts for our battalions and used to provide a delayed defense in depth allowing time for the Infantry to clear the enemy area for re-deployment engagements as per our battle doctrine and tactics. I retired in 2009 and some basic skills such as using LAW’s/AT-4’s in a volley fire were dropped, I taught them to a few platoons before we deployed to Iraq in 2003 and I hope they pass the skill on to the next generation, looks like we’re going to be needing them again pretty soon.

battlefield shows that good graphics and photorealism isn't just about the engine's fidelity, but the developer's passion and vision. The small effects go a long way in selling the photorealism, the vignette around the screen as though you are looking through a real periscope, the emissive effects of the onscreen HUD, it all screams passion. Modern Battlefield looks nice but its just a mock of what the old guys did, it hasn't been as good since.

I mean the Abrams tanks could be disabled by a IED or well placed rpg shot. Just look at the real operation "Thunder run" during the battle for Baghdad. Or the anti Insurgent operations after operation "Iraq Freedom". And also the American tank core during OP "Desert Storm" flanked the Iraq Republican Guard from the left. The Abrams tanks went throu the desert thanks to the brand new technology at the time. Today known as "GPS" or Global Positoning System. So they basicly got Into the rear of Iraq tank divisons and started blasting. Also the Iraq tanks were basicly empty casemates sold by the Soviets. Shells were also of lower quality They lacked a lot of features and were outdated T72 tanks compared to the Abrams. Abrams tanks had better armor, longer main gun range, thermal Imaging (see throu smoke and dust clouds) faster speed, and better anti tank shells.
