Brushed vs Brushless | Arrma Granite Mega V3 gets a GoolRC Upgrade

Brushed vs Brushless Arrma Granite Mega v3!
It is always fun to test rc truck brushed vs brushless - and this is one we promised to do. This Arrma Granite Mega v3 should certainly be fun brushless, right?
This did not 100% go as expected!
The family and I all found the Arrma Granite Mega, that we won from Bars & Tone RC (kzread.info/dron/0Hg.html..., really fun straight out of the box. We were surprised how much we enjoyed the brushed truck!
Still - the goal was to throw in a brushless setup. Since this was a budget build, we went for a GoolRC setup: amzn.to/2X9MNbL
3900KV, 60A ESC - it should be good, right?!?! ...kind of...
The Granite BLX v3 comes with a 100A esc and a 3200kv motor. That is much more power and torque than this GoolRC setup has - and it shows.
Yes, the brushless setup did yield some more speed - but not a lot. However, the biggest disapointment is the cogging from a start.
Question: I was about to give this truck away. Would you rather have it with the GoolRC setup in it, or the brushed setup?
*Note: The provided links to the items recommended in this may be associate links. The great news about this: you pay the same price for the item, but I get a small kickback that helps me fund this channel!

Awesome! Yes, this truck is very durable and does come highly recommended. You can basically take 2 paths with the Granite 4x4. 1 - get the Mega and then throw a brushless setup at it. 2 - get the BLX from the start. I would honestly suggest that you go with (2). The only real drawback is that I don't believe the BLX comes with a battery, while the Mega does. Still - with 3 trucks running, you would probably be upgrading to lipo batteries rather soon anyway.

Great vid Troy! I personally love my Granite 4x4! Mine is the brushless 3s BLX version, that goolrc combo I think was just a little under powered for it really to do more than the brushed system did, in the stock 3s BLX system the Granite can easily get over 30mph on a 2s lipo, on a 3s it can get up to 60+, the stock 3s BLX system is a 3500kv motor and a 100a esc, so I'm thinking maybe with a higher amp esc like an 80a you will definitely be able to get over 30mph on 2s using that 3900kv motor. Might be worth checking out before doing your giveaway with it.

I used the 16 pinion change out and made sure that the pinion and drive shafts connection were at the same height, placed the cover on and checked the ability for a smooth spin and connection. No dice. It seems to rough in places as I spin the drive shaft connection. Also, I can’t seem to push the whole plastic motor case back in to place far enough to get the red piece to slide in. This is a very frustrating project.

I apologize, I am really not following what is going wrong here. When talking about the pinion change, you mention making sure the pinion and driveshaft are at the same height. I think that might be where you are going wrong, as I am not sure what you mean by height in this situation. Getting the whole housing seated properly is 100% critical. You have to get the input from the transmission back in there correctly, or else nothing will work and you will break other pieces. I'm happy to help if you can provide more info.

Yeah no shame as i know from experience but goolrc we all know is about the cheapest drop in brushless conversion out there, however your cogging is most likely due to esc if you upgrade only esc to something loke a hobbywing $60 worth every penny would be world of difference also 60a isnt gonna be what you want it will work but if for offroad use then no onroad yes with right gear but if going 60a least be a quality brand again dont ask how i know this but goolrc 3660 3300kv is what i got in stampede with hobbywing 120a esc and man its scary fast for a cheap brushless motor has lasted way longer than could of ever imagined, still going to this day have already bought other motors for experimental kv/voltage performance so far 3200kv is about as far reliable u can get higher kv only gets hotter quicker for little more power better to up battery and lower kv 😉

I definitely wouldn't even consider letting them drive my kraton 6s exb. I'm thinking the outcast might be manageable, but if not maybe this granite? What do you think?
