Brunswick, Georgia | What Happened To This Place?
Brunswick, GA...wow! This is one of the poorest and most dangerous cities in the state of Georgia. High in crime, homelessness, and having an over 32% poverty level, its one of the worst cities to live in within the United States. I saw a whole lot of abandoned / dilapidated homes, and very few people around. The economy is struggling as its one of the slowest recovering cities in Georgia after recent years, and there's no improvement in sight. Brunswick is also known as "The Shrimp Capital of The World". The Port of Brunswick is one of the largest US roll on / roll off points of trade, with automobiles being one of the biggest sources. You wouldn't think that by what I seen though. There's a lot of history and potential here, can it make a come back? Let's take a drive and check out some of the worst areas!

I’m from Brunswick Born and raised ! I didn’t realize that there were a lot of abandon houses in the city until after watching this video..I saw the hood and the childhood home that I grew up in and just shook my head..You were in the hoods..But not all areas look like that ..I always pray that one day God will bless me to be a blessing to the neighborhood that I grew up in and to the homeless people as well..I’m 42 years old can can say that Brunswick has grown..But still has limited resources to help out the homeless.

Investors dream city. The downtown has started to come back to life and is starting to boom I fixed up a house in downtown bruns plan on doing another one this year try to bring this town back
Price of living in Brunswick has skyrocketed since 2020. What used to be $900/month apartments are now 1750-1800/month with no wage increase adding to the homeless issues. It's a sad place.

Brunswick issues are not because of coastal weather and termites.
If you’re not from here you would not understand . Brunswick is located in Glynn county Georgia. There are a couple other places in this county. Such as saint simons island , or sea island . So if you drive around Brunswick and see bad roads , bad houses. It’s because all the money from taxes and such . Goes to the rich folks on the islands . I grew up here . And no wear will you see the line of rich and poor so clearly.
they have all these homeless people while having all these rotting houses?
What wasn't mentioned is this is also just the downtown part of Brunswick. The north side of it has better homes. Nevertheless, the city does indeed need improvement.
We stopped in Brunswick for a little while on the way home from a girls trip about 10 years ago. We walked around in the cute little downtown area and even then, everything was just kind of dead. There was a book store, a cupcake shop and another bakery, a few other little stores down there. The small business owners had kind of banded together in a desperate attempt to drum up business by encouraging any customers they did get, to check out the other stores on the street. It's sad to see that the general area has continued to deteriorate.

That is my home and I was not raised on the side of town being filmed. There are actually some very nice subdivisions on the north side of town and just a few miles on the outskirts.

Let the homeless live in the old boarded up homes or is LAW more important, this is one of the reasons for homelessness in the first place.

I was born and raised there and back in the ‘80s and ‘90s all of those houses were occupied. I moved in ‘97 and had maybe revisited 4 or 5 times since. I was shocked at how downhill that part of town had gotten during my last visit in 2021.
I’m born and raised in Brunswick but I moved out back in 1997. Brunswick looked nothing like this when I was growing up. All of the dilapidated homes in the video were all occupied and were looking better when I was a kid. I revisited the town back in 2021 and was amazed at how some of the homes I grew up around were abandoned and run down. From what I had observed, when family and I had gathered at my cousin’s house down there, you have to live a little further out in the burbs to get a clean, up to date, good looking home down there.
Great video, sad little town
This is down town part of Brunswick,.. it’s the small worst part of Brunswick but if you drive into town more like down altama and all that side is not this bad,.. rent and everything has definitely gone up in price so unfortunately to have a decent 2 bedroom apartment, or home or anything it’s almost impossible for even a 2 people salary ,..
Fun Fact: Most people aren’t because of the fact , they are homeless because they have some sort of addiction which causes them to be in the state of homelessness.
Brunswick used to be a cool place! Their historic downtown is basically abandoned.
If you had a home that was really nice on the outside you would probably get a lot thieves breaking in because they would figure you had something worth stealing.

I couldn’t resist the urge to explore the abandoned houses. Probably a good way to find trouble you weren’t looking for though.
Brunswick is already improving, slowly, but steady. We purchased 2 old houses. After rehab 1 is almost sold, the other will start soon. Great opportunity for fixer&upper. We left Miami, then JAX bc. its too expensive. Here, u'll find affordable opportunities. Ppl are friendly. Shopping, restaurants & other amenities are there. I bet in10 years everything will be better. And great locations are all around!
Really is sad, especially since there are so many homeless people across America. I wish there was something I could do in every city. They need torn down and even put shipping containers in the land. Something. Thanks. Makes one appreciate what they have.

They do not need to be torn down. they need to be restored. The problem is St. Simon's, etc. are near by and a lot of prosperity is there. They are not interested in supporting the nearest large town. It is not good enough for them.
Очень много великолепных деревьев с огромными ветками, красивая природа🌱
As always I focus on the giant old trees of the south. We have beautiful trees in the nw also, and I love it here, but these trees have all of the hanging moss on their branches which extend so far out and beyond the trunk. And I wish sometimes I could explore the old buildings shown in your videos. It's easy to see how these old houses looked in their younger years.
