amistry605: I'm not typically a fan of mainstream pop music, but Bruno earned my respect during that performance you referenced. He's a genuine talent and not just a pretty face for the cameras to look at. I only intended to watch that Super Bowl halftime show for RHCP 'cuz I'm a lifelong fan of the Peps, but I was actually more-impressed with him than I was with Anthony, Flea, Chad and whatever the new guitarist's name is.

First of all, he's so much more than someone you can reduce to merely "a wannabe Prince". He's not just some novelty tribute artist miming another established artist from a previous genereation. He has his own talent, and he's only just beginning to show what he's got -- not something I can say about 95-99% of today's contemporary pop musicians/entertainers (emphasis on the latter over the former). Second, if someone were to be a wannabe anybody, being a wannabe Prince ain't something to laugh at -- especially if it's someone like Mars who's proven that he can deliver the goods and not just be another pretty face on-stage.

+James G Yes. It really does. But If you look, you can see he's definitely playing the right notes. I_Is_Hungry is right. Guitarists play off of licks, little patterns of notes to play. The solo does sound "Cliche" so to speak. But he's definitely not fakin' it.

@@neighbourhoodmusician Mitch cannot swing for shit live. Ginger baker from cream literally said the experience is a band with a great guitarist with a mediocre rhythm section. Mitch to me was a really bad elvin Jones. While this is straight forward rhythm at least they keep rhythm. And forget about Noel as a bassist. I say all this in good faith cause I do prefer the Jimi Hendrix over Bruno but it is what it is. However, when they played at Monterey pop they were super solid.

It’s great to hear jimi’s music channelling through other people, Bruno mars is a fantastic musician, everything ✌🏻

To give a tribute to your guitar idol, Jimmy Hendrix in such a grand fashion is everything. Bruno wears his many idols on his sleeve and if you pay attention enough, you can identify them all.
