Ah, Totally Hair Barbie. I had this exact version of that doll, and it was a birthday/christmas combo gift from my Aunt when I came to visit her back in 1992 for Christmas. I loved this doll to pieces. I remember getting very upset when I lost one of her pumps before we left my aunt's house and how everyone frantically looked all over for it to no avail. I finally gave my Totally Hair Barbie to the little girl next door a few years ago along with my other well played with 80's and 90's barbies. I'm getting nostalgic watching your video so I'm perusing Ebay for a good deal on her.

What a sweet story! Even the fact that you lost the shoe forever makes me smile. I remember always losing Barbie shoes. I lost most of them. Eventually I was left with one pair of Barbie pumps which I still have today. She is a fantastic doll and I hope you find a good one soon. My advice is to check completed listings and wait for a cheap one. I impulse bought this one only to find her listed for half the price a week later :S :P

I like that you reviewed the brunette version of the doll, almost everything on KZread that I've noticed is of the blonde doll. I knew there was a Totally Hair Skipper and a Totally Hair Courtney at some point who aren't featured in this box anywhere, but I didn't realize that they made a Totally Hair Ken as well! Since this was the best selling Barbie doll of all time, you should eventually do a review of the best selling Ken doll of all time... Earring Magic Ken. The story behind that kills me every time LOL!

I am a fan of the brunettes. I never get the blonde if a brunette or redhead is available. There are so many dolls in this line it is hard to keep track of them :P Earring Magic Ken is cute. I haven't thought about him in years :P

Great vid once again Deany!!! :) I love how Mattel started issuing brunettes as well as blonde Barbies again after several years of predominately blonde Barbies (even though her friends admittedly often had different hair colours.) Oh how I remember Dep styling gel! :P Though I was more of a L'Oreal Studio Line guy myself! LOL :P And OH DEAR!!! I'm afraid that Ken is sporting the same 'do I had back in the 80's! LOL :P ... and LOOOOOVE the graphics in that styling booklet! I was just starting my fashion career in illustration back in 1991 and worked on lots of jobs with very similar graphics to that... it is very much of its time.

Thanks Spageddi! I am so glad they started issuing brunettes. But by the time I was a kid that had stopped again. Teresa was the brunette and she was hard to find. Lolololololol! I would love to see you with that 'do!

She's a favorite of mine! My blonde has the old school logo with a pouty curly bang and my brunette has the new logo with more of a pompadour bang!

Oh no!! It was absolutely forbidden for us to cut our dolls hair growing up. I remember my sister cut her dolls hair at school and she got in trouble. We didn't have a lot of money so we had to make our toys last. You poor thing! That would have been heartbreaking.

The Brunette version is basically called Totally Hair Whitney, but for real she is Teresa since her mouth is smiling very sweet ... I wonder why she is name " Totally Hair Whitney " 🤔🙂

Totally Hair Whitney used the Steffie face, she is a different doll to the one in this video. This is Brunette Barbie with the Superstar face that has the smile. But you are right, she could be Teresa.

@@DeanReen Fan fact : your cut and style Barbie in green 💚 lime dress is stunningly beautiful with her thick head of hair, she would be a perfect transformation if you reroot all her hair extensions instead of cutting, since it will just a waste. A reroot tool is attached with a needle on top. We'll have you familiar with doll rerooting? :)

I call these waists “Twist Waist” .. the “Twist and Turn” waist functions differently, they actually TURN towards down or up

I’m 13 and I wish I had this honestly ik I would’ve loved it I have something similar to that where u color her long hair but that’s from 2015 I loved the Barbie’s in the 80s and 90s! My parents never owned any Barbie’s cause they weren’t born here and Barbie’s were super expensive so ya. Sucks 😖 I just hope no one ever cut the hair lmao that is illegal

I didn't have her as a kid, but I bought around 2007 NRFB for less than $30 (what is she worth now?). By the time I played with Barbies in the mid '90s, the Totally Hair dolls were off the shelves. My best friend's older sister had her, and I desperately wanted her. Someone did give me their Totally Hair Courtney doll. I was thrilled with her. I also got the redheaded Glitter Hair Barbie soon after, which was obviously capitalizing off the success of these dolls. Also, I too lost one of my Totally Hair Doll's shoes! I regret removing her from the box.

Omigosh! That is a bargain. I thought I got a bargain and spent over $100 😭 I never saw a totally hair Barbie until I started collecting. I wonder if they were as big here in Australia. I love your story ❤️ Even to have Courtney would have been awesome.

@@DeanReen She actually came as part of a lot with two other boxed Barbies of the era, so it was a very big bargain. Removing her from the box didn't seem like a big deal in 2007 when I got her, because dolls dating to the 90s were worth practically nothing at the time.

I love totally hair barbie. Both the blonde and brunette versions are pretty. The ultra long hair is the best of all.

I suppose that doll must be Hollywood Hair Barbie, of course! 😎. The magical clear “mist” that comes with her says that her magic hair turns pink!

Yeah, the reproductions aren't very good. I too lost a few Barbie due to broken necks as a kid. I hope you can replace her one day 😍😊 It is a shame they are getting so expensive. I think it is more greed than anything else.

Aww she is so so gorgeous, i love all of her cute details, her earrings, ring, and the cut out in the back, details are so important XD I love the abstract geometric design of their outfit and the color scheme is so beautiful, i think the blue is my favorite color scheme, i love the long hair barbies sooo much! I wish they had "barbie extensions" that you could clip in LOL or maybe a doll where you could press a button to make her hair grow longer and a button to retract it, but i could how that could be mechanically difficult X_X Great video as always my handsome friend ^-^

Actually Think the 2000's era Cut N Style barbie had that grow and retract feature..and now that I think about it..Cut N Style from the 90's has the extensions!!!

Isn't she just. I have her dressed as a mermaid ATM. The hair works perfectly for the mermaid look :P I love how 60s MOD they went with this look. Yet it is still very 80s/90s. Yes! Retractable hair would be good. So you could have it short too. It would make maintaining the hair easier. But I guess it would be a bit messy for kids. Thank you!! My beautiful friend!

You couldn't retract the hair on the 00's Cut N Style. But you could take it out and put it back in. The only Barbie I know of with retractable hair is Growin' Pretty Hair Barbie from the early 70s. But it was only a small section of hair and it wasn't nearly as long as Totally Hair's hair :P

She's so pretty. I really wanna have one.

Thank you. Although it is widely believed she came out in 1992, the very first issues used the 1980s Barbie logo which was last used in 1991 which is also when this dolls was copyrighted. I believe she must have been made available in late 91. This is the case with many dolls. Fashion Queen Barbie is dated 62 and although many people say she came out in 63 there are people who swear that they got her for Christmas in 1962. Therefore I always go with box dates regardless. My Totally Hair Barbie uses the 90s logo though so this particular doll would have been from 92 or later.

The legs really went to crap from the mid 80s to the late 90s. after a while, you couldn't get more than two clicks in them. i really don't understand what happened there. i've been thinking of getting the blonde reproduction. She's GORGEOUS!

Oh they did! They did! I read an article (it was actually an old safety report type thing) and it said they had to change the type of rubber used for the legs as the current type didn't meet safety standards in the US. I do think the quality of all Barbie products started declining around 1983. That is just my opinion. It seems to be in 1983 that they started going towards that pink princess kind of thing.
