Morgan, I hope you don't get any negative feedback about selling your 3 weird chicken chicks. I'm proud of you. You are a working farmer not a hobby farmer. I was raised in a family of working farmers and they would have laughed at the idea of not treating their farms as a business. Good job and it will be fun to see if there's more little families of weird chickens in the future. Go, Mr. Frizzle! By the way, the poem was fun!

I'd like to second your comment. I understand that as a type of public media star Morgan will receive criticism and worse no matter what he does, but it gets to the point where it's completely ignorant and pathetic. No doubt someone(s) will have a judgement, like "How dare you do what you want with your own farm and livestock!" 🙄These human troll bots need to get a job, life, whatever, just get off the internet😄

😊😊No reason to criticize working farmers who feed us. Morgan does a decent job of minimizing his footprint while giving his animals a good life. Remember, making a profit is the only way to sustain the farm.

Actually I thing selling those 3 chicks was a good idea. Hobby animals can quickly become a money pit for a small farm like yours, so finding a way to balance their upkeep is the best option in the long run. Plus they were a little too young to live safely with the mature birds in a limited space over winter.

The weird chickens just went from a hobby to a business. Morgan's goal will be to get as many weird chicks as possible next year, knowing that he might only keep 2 or 3 out of 20 or more. Selling the rest at a premium would pay for the whole operation and more, meaning any eggs he gets over the rest of the year are profit. I wanted to see those 3 awesome weird chicks grow up, but I'm glad Morgan realizes the value in breeding them now.

My partner and I used to watch you together and we loved your channel, even inspired us to get some Silkies and Burford Brown rescues of our own. Sadly, Andy died suddenly in March, and I haven't had the strength to watch this channel since, until today. I'm planning to try again when I have my own footing. Long live love for the animals, vegans, vegetarians or otherwise. Your balance of business and compassion is such an anchor. Wish I lived in Vermont so I could come and say hi. As it is, sending love from the UK. Glad Bruce is still about, hope he is as fiesty as ever! He was one of Andy's favourites. :)

Most sincere condolences from me in Australia. Having been in your same situation over 8 yrs ago I do know you will eventually find joy and pleasure in your life in the future. Just take your days one at a time. What helped me was that I had to get myself well and healthier after being my pRents carer for 25 yrs then my husband's carer for 5 yrs and was so run down and unwell of not only being others carer but working full time too. My joining a Wellness Centre Gym and beginning Tai Chi for my mental health I really slowly did regain a new me to help my grieving ( still cannot believe it is over 8 years since my husband had to leave us because of his terrible illness as it feels like yesterday still). There is a lovely future for you ❤️

The distinction of "fresh" cider here in the states is from prohibition! Back in the day it was either juice or cider, but since the sale of alcohol was illegal, juice with yeast was called cider as a "do it yourself" kind of thing. Sell it before it ferments and it's legal!

Good decision on the chickens. Even as someone who now just has a small garden and is probably going to re-start keeping a few chickens in the new year, I know from my previous smallholding experience that you always have to think strategically and manage a flock for the long-term. So sad as it was, I think selling the chicks made perfect sense. By the way here in the UK the term Cider can ONLY be used for what you call "hard" or fermented cider. The other (non alcoholic) stuff we always call cloudy apple juice. I would love to see a video of you making some hard cider.

Next time, when gathering geese, collect them at night. They'll roost and nest down at night. Get them into a smaller concentric circle to harvest them. Or put them into your empty chicken coops and grab them from there. Also, clip their wings so they cannot fly before harvesting starts. This will make the annual mass extinction event, plausible and easier for you.

Making apple cider in the fall in October has always been such a fond memory for me growing up. Its definitely a major part of Halloween month. Grandpa still does it every yr just like the maple syrup though the production level is cut back significantly compared to 20 yrs ago. If some more of the kids, grand children and great grands would come and help we'd be able to give some to just about everyone in our family and friends circle but me, my one cousin and one uncle are the only ones that still come help Grandpa w the work all yr long. So we still get cider and enough maple syrup for the year. ❤

Yeah, good apple years and you just end up with so many apples no normal family can eat in time. So the fermented cider is certainly a must if you don't want to waste apples. Usually here, many people put buckets out at the road so people can help themselves. Most older gardens have 2 apple trees.

As far as selling the chicks...you're running a business and that is part of it. And yes I would love to see the cider making.

On your live stream I mentioned that yes chickens can have issues when inbred. My neighbor is constantly trying to hatch his eggs from inbred chickens hatching success is not good. It pained me to get rid of my 4 yr old rooster who I used this past spring for the next generation of breeders. Found homes for my roosters..if that wasn't so I don't want to know!

Im more sad about the geese than the chicken. But it’s great that you’re showing the real world of farming to your viewers. It’s not a petting zoo, so it’s normal to see animals come and go. You did everything you could to give them the best time living on your farm. ❤

As a brit i only recently found out what north Americans meant by cider and hard cider. In the uk, we have apple juice and cider(alcoholic).

You can have non-alcoholic cider, so we use “hard” to mean “alcoholic” with cider or lemonade.

As I'm rewatching this video, I keep seeing ..... and HEARING new things; like the blips and plops especially around 18:52, those cracked me up. And Morgan, I love the music, I especially love that you don't make it so loud that I am continually having to increase and decrease the volume every time music kicks in. Unfortunately, I've found that integrating music seems to be REALLY hard for video creators. Not sure if it's the tools they're using or their hearing? Maybe it's just me and my sensitive ears?

Morgan, I’d love to learn how you find your music and how you match it to your story and the video, too.

Hey Morgan!! Dont read the comments!! No seriously thoe, just wanted to say that you are actually a very interesting and inspiring guy. From a Connecticut kid to another. My wife and i are making the move to upstate ny after we renovate the farmhouse. Story so similar to your, farm size too. It’s intimidating for sure, but something says we must. Thanks again for being such a honest and caring person. And shoot im in my 30s with no kids just yet, and im thinking of buying the book!! Haha keep up the dream bud!!

I love silky roosters! Some of my fave childhood pets were silky roosters. Also, I hope you dont get worried about fnas getting mad for mking a chick sale... thats really unfortunate. They're your chicks. You're going to make the best decision for them. Anyone who gets mad about that can go sit in syrup. Let the bees get them.

Amazing that Bruce went from the quarantined weirdo, to the bullied outsider. Then he was the leader of a small group. Finally he is the the top G.
