Bruce Swedien: Life in the studio
- "Just The Blues".
Here is a video that was recorded on Westviking Farm, and Westviking Studio, while Bea and Bruce were living in Connecticut. It is a short presentation of his life in the studio up to that time (Michael Jackson’s album “Invincible” had just been released - 2000). This is the raw footage, and in the end, there are a few takes on Bruce’s Norwegian link, created together with Per “Abe” Abrahamsen and Nils Bjarne Kvam. I did carry the first amplifier into Larrabee Studios on Lankershim Boulevard in Studio City in the fall of 1991, something which gave me the nick name The Norwegian Sherpa - Bruce fell in love with these amps immediately. It was the result of a “Shining” Nils Bjarne Kvam had in the shower one morning in August 1991, a few week later I had one AW 250 in my luggage flying into the USA and San Francisco, and from there I drove it down to Los Angeles, to Larrabee in Studio City. There are a few more references in my blog - sessionnotater.com - regarding Bruce. It is in Norwegian though. The music that is being played in the first few seconds of this video is “Travelling Light” sung by Big Joe Williams with the Count Basie Orchestra. If you which to hear the music, and you should, you can buy it on the Net - www.discogs.co.... Composer is Mundy, Mercer, Young. It is also to be found on an album through Apples iTunes - / album . - "Just The Blues".

When you are a god you make it look effortless-rest in peace Bruce.
In those later albums there’s so little compression or crazy ssl drive and they still sound so good and amazingly contemporary. Such total skill and hard earned knowledge! Thanks for the video.
What an ABSOLUTE HONOR to listen to one of the greatest engineers the world has ever known and NEVER known . People have enjoyed sooo many recordings and had ZERO idea that the Great Bruce Swedien engineered and recorded those great sounding tracks . I sooo wish I could have personally known him and had the pleasure of personally learning from him . Priceless are the value of his interviews . Thank You for sharing
RIP Bruce. I just found out about you, but realize how much of a loss we took with you being gone from this earth. Your great contributions to music will never be forgotten !!
Bruce was so good at what he does and you can tell that he completely understands getting good takes. You can tell during the interview that he is aware of restarting from certain points to get the story right...even to the point of asking the interviewer to stop and restart the tape again. One of the best to ever do it! My mixing idol! RIP
Genius ❤ Bruce we all miss you Rest In Peace 🙏 love from Bhaarat 🇮🇳
I like how centered and down to earth Bruce was. His pioneering vision and work influenced so many people and still he felt lucky and grateful for his journey in music recording without any arrogance. All for the music, respect.
My right era appreciates this lesson.
Bruce Swedien's work will last as long as this Earth lasts!
RIP.. Bruce is missed. He was a true pioneer in the recording field. Thank you for this upload!

Ooops! I accidentally pressed the keys. I have been an ardent fan and humble student of Bruce Swedien for many years.
Unbelievable priceless history, no words to describe the awesomeness of this vid ...
RIP Mr Bruce Swedien! 🙏
Such a treat to watch this legendary engineer discuss the recording medium. I wonder if the great Swedien would have also been excited for Atmos or if he’d think it’s a nonsensical technology for music.
RIP Mr Bruce Swedien you will be missed 😢 🙏 💔
Thank you for can only hear on the right side of my speaker. Makes it more viewable and hearable

I love you Bruce but thé design on that gate is so psychotic
Was this recorded using blumlein array? The stereo image is so narrow and precise.

The idea of a blumlein pair is to achieve the total opposite of a narrow stereo image

It's waiting for a proper sentence ...
Such an ironic shame to record an interview with the master of audio recording and fail the audio recording\mixing for the video. Shame on the editor\uploader!
Hi. 🙂 Please, let us pray together. Dear God who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever in Jesus Christ's name we pray amen. 1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love. Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May all suffering end as we give thanks this day. May God's face shine upon us forever on Earth as it is in Heaven in Jesus Christ's name we pray for His name and for His sake. Amen.
