That weirdo in a robin hood hat circle bowing the cello is one of the reasons I love old time music so much. There's no hard formula for it, a cello doesn't disqualify a group from the bill, second fiddle can play a viola, clawhammer the banjo, throw in a mandolin that doesn't have f sound holes, maybe even a snare if you want to get weird... shit, as long as you make them old time songs sound good you're doin' god's work.

I still think the movie crystal has the best rendition of the song. Makes me cry everytime I hear it. When you hear it like this it doesnt have the sorrow effect, it has a more "your loss and Ill be fine" vibebto ke. Great job on this though. P.s. if you have never eatched Crystal w/ Billy Bob Thorton you should make a ooint to do so. Awesome movie!

I’ve watched this dozens of times. A fiddle tune that’s only 7 measures long (that repeats). Is that unusual? Seems nuts but it works. I thought 99% of fiddle tunes are 8 measures (or 16 with an A part and B part). Someone help me.

A lot of bluegrass has weird tricks like this. It's one of the things that make the genre unique. Often there will be a single 2/4 bar at the end of a tune

When tunes dont line up in patterns of 8 or 16 exactly, it's called crooked. So this tune is crooked, and its a bluegrass tune (vocal verse that repeats that is also played by the instruments) instead of a fiddle tune. This single form repeating is common for bluegrass tunes. Sort of like bury me beneath the willow, or ill fly away. Chinquapin hunting from this set is a fiddle tune, but it is also crooked and i think has a, b and c sections
