Bruce McLean - Studio Visit | TateShots
TateShots visited the studio of Scottish performance artist and painter Bruce McLean, as he put finishing touches to work for an exhibition at the Bernard Jacobson gallery, London.
His 1971 performance 'Pose Work for Plinths' is regarded as an iconic artwork; an expression of the rebellion McLean and his contemporaries staged during his time at art school in the 1960s.
In this video Bruce explains how he regarded the Pose Work as kind of a joke, and describes why he believes art and artists have the power to change the world. He even shows us his design for an alternative to the Houses of Parliament.

His thinking is extremely honest .Hope he has listeners.Exciting new work.and he is a true Scot! which impress
Yes
great artist! I love his job!
Just been to an amazing retrospective of his work at firstsite in Colchester. Well worth seeing, but hurry because it closes on 30 November. He's no phoney - he's funny, irreverent and still very productive and subversive at 70.

About as subversive as a bowl of fruit
cool guy
Hey Bruce..nice paintings..good chat, as always…my studio is bigger..Do you have time for a beer?.. .Alejandro
Going from whimsy to serious here. Good. How about drawing the political piece to the attention of the politicians if they haven’t time to see what you are doing. Go to the bar in the Houses of Parliament and make the acquaintance of sensitive mp’s? Time consuming I know but it may be worth a try?
why is my art teacher making me watch this :(
Lol
He says artists can change the world. No they can't; they can explore the depth of it but you need political will to instigate change or failing that you have to resort to the gun. It is well known by now art has zero impact on the political landscape. Another artist putting himself as saviour of us all.

Artists tend to fill the roll of propagandists. A very potent position, wouldn’t you agree?
Speaks a lot of nonsense.
